Like a lot of players, I don't care much for matching armor sets. It's just more fun, and more RP friendly, for me to use a mixed set as my primary kit.

Ulfius wears a Stormcloak cuirass, Nordic steel or leather bracers (or gloves, though them's not armor), steel cuffed or leather boots, a steel or Stormcloak helm, and a Windhelm guard's shield (or iron or hide, though that's rare).

So, what other DIY armor sets does everyone else prefer?

Most of My characters will wear the Ironhand Gauntlets through the entire Game. I like the Diadem of the Savant for Headgear on My non Mages. My characters will wear the Armor or Clothing of the Faction they belong too, except for the Wolf Armor of the Companions because I do not like the way the Armor is designed for My Female characters.

I wear a faction Cape or Cloak from Cloaks of Skyrim, if it is available.

Boots are varied, but Predators Grace is a favorite for Dual Wielders. Azhidals Boots of Water Walking become the footwear on all of My characters once the Boots are available.

Qilvara my sword-maiden is sporting the Barbarian Hero cuirass and gauntlets, paired with some Engraved Bosmer Boots.

My Leliana Oaken-Stone wears a mix of armors.

There is another mod that does something similar. stand alone pieces from the ancient nord armor but I can't find the link at the moment.
