True, but nothing lives long enough to burn an Altmer Battlemage.

Mmmm, LOL, based on my experience with building the character, this is a tit for tat argument. While Altmer end up being able to cast the highest level spells, and lots of them, Mysticism's spell reflection and Restorations Spell absorbtion take quite a bit of heat off whoever is taking the magical onslaught, and ends up being a battle of willpower, blades, bows, or maces. In which case, IDK, I'd hate to be that Altmer engaged with an Orc, Nord, or Redguard Battle Mage.

Don't get me wrong, if I want to be flinging spells and crisping everything, I love Altmer, but I like a more balanced attack myself.

Altmer, especially Necromancers, are to be respected, without a doubt. The problem lies, and this is an isolated example, when Altmer go Vampire, and end up at 100% turned. Not only do they have low tolerance as a race for fire, but couple it with Vampirism's low tolerance for fire, and, well, we have the answer as to why Vampires drop Vampire dust. Make any race with decent Bow skills, or Illusion (which for the record I never use as a skill for leveling), or alchemy, and there's 5 dozen ways to force an Altmer to go toe to toe.

Just my opinion though. I love all the races for different reasons....for example, making a cracked-out Argonian, class name "Velociraptor" whose skills include hand to hand, acrobatics, athletics, etc, all physical skills....he he, its amusing.

Just wondering... In this day and age when everyone is so sensitive. Isn′t this question a bit racist...?

:P

Lol "species-ist" maybe, humans have races, Mer are another species split from Men aeons ago of many races.
Beast-races are independent species of beasts, I would say its more a matter for Peta than UN court of rights...
That said I don't have a hated race in game, well apart from a small dislike of Imperials maybe, and if I was in the world of Oblivion my imagination would run rampant with love for all races.

Well I always thought why the put " Race " was stupid because we are the "human race" according the history books. So that being said I have always considered the different colors of humans (black, white, dark tan ect ... ) different species. I have heard the term species used as like "there are many diff species of spiders" so why don't we use species of humans? Thank you everyone for answering on a small level what peoples favorite races are.

Bretons of course! They have high magika, decent melee skills and they make suprisingly good archers.

Bosmer. I like the lore surrounding them, their short stature, feral qualities, and high Archery skill. I don't really hate any of the Races though.

Different species cannot reproduce with one another. A species is a group of organisms capable of producing fertile offspring. Using spiders as an example, a black widow cannot reproduce with a brown recluse, so they are different species. By contrast, all humans are perfectly capable of producing children together, so they're the same species.

Sorry for the tangent there... I've started out Oblivion playing as a Redguard, and so far I've enjoyed getting into melee with the buffs. I'd vote Dunmer, but they seem to have lost their gravely voices... maybe the male voices in Morrowind were due to respiratory problems from ash storms?

Racism is the belief that one race is genetically superior to another. One can have a favorite race without believing one's favorite race is superior.

One for the Breton. It was a close call between Nord and Breton, but since my current character is Breton, and I really it, the swing vote went the Breton way.

I picked an Argonian because it was the least human looking. The ability to breath under water was nice.
I like Dunmer Second best. I like the anti-magic philosophy of the Red Gaurd too. I like orc NPC characters. I made a Khajiit and broke into a castle somewhere, used fear power to chase a gaurd away, then i walked into someones room took their court magician style robe (from their body) and ran off to the shivering isles.

I've seen NPC couples of different species though.

I guess they know they can't have kids, Im pretty sure say; a Nord could have one with a Breton, or an Imperial could have one with a Redguard. They're all human races, so they're the same species I guess.

I don't know if its the same for Elves though. Can human races have kids with Elves? Can Elves have kids with one another? I can't see a male Bosmer and female Altmer getting too intimate, but a male Dunmer and female Bosmer seems plausible. Technically Orcs are an Elf race too, Orsimer; as they're called. Can Orcs reproduce with the other Elves?

I think this may need it's own topic in the lore section. :P

Confirmed human - elf or to different elf type children are in oblivion, Mankar Cameron is I think one, the grey prince another.

Humans, elves and Orcs, are all pretty much the same "race" from aeons ago, but split during some past exodus before Nirn was formed on the account of some lore.
Redguards are unique in this by some lore on the wiki not being nedic or merish, but I presume they can have kids with other species.
Beast races no one knows, Khajiit have some common links to bosmer, but that may mean bosmer are not elves, but rather a species in common with Khajiit..
Or just plainly have a shared past with many myths popping up to account why they are how they are.

I voted Breton for practical purposes - that increased magicka and 50% Magic Resist is a must for me. Initially I thought the High Elf would be better, but later on that weakness combined with Apprentices sign (a must for my mages) proved too annoying.

I do not really like many of the races 'perks' in Oblivion - for instance, I usually played as a Redguard or WOod Elf in the oooold days (Arena) coz their perks could not be matched: lvl/3 to hit and damage depending on what i wanted to play (sword oor bow). Even Dark Elf was fun, if I wanted an overall good fighting chap.

I neve even tried Orc, Khajiit or Argonian in Oblivion (and never will). Just dont see meself as playing one of those.

Ah yes, I forgot about the Grey Prince.

The Khajiit/Bosmer similarity can be attributed to their land of origin though. Valenwood and Elsewyr are somewhat similar, I hear. As you can see in this http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/8840/tamrielmap.jpg they clearly share a border, and are moderately mountainous, a little hilly, which means similar land and climate. I guess evolution played its part there, I doubt there was any ancient cross-breeding between Bosmer and Khajiit.
