Favorite Rap/Hip Hop song/artist

I've been listening to 36 Chambers a lot recently, as well as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Spirit_of_Apollo. But other than that I've not been that into hip-hop recently. Any suggestions for me?

How about Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 by Raekwon? It was the best hip-hop album released last year, and you already like Wu-Tang, so give it a go.

LL Cool J
Kool Moe Dee
Run-D.M.C.
Doug E. Fresh
Slick Rick

IMHO...the 80's was where it was at.

This definitely, to the power of infinity.
Let us bow our heads and mourn the age of talented rappers. Like legendary video games, they are gone forever.

Well, Lil Wayne has released a [censored] load of mixtapes, though you may not like him, it seems we who do are a minority here :P

I love 'em. Da Drought 3 - Sky's the Limit is his best song ever IMO, not counting ones he's featured in

The more I listen to OutKast the more I'm convinced they belong up there in the pantheon of great hip-hop groups. Right by the side of Wu-Tang Clan, A Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, etc.

No no I like Lil Wayne I just didn't like the whole "Rocker thing" and when I saw a comment on the prom queen video saying "your lucky rocks been dead for ever this [censored] bringing it back." Thats a comment that genuinely pissed me off. Also no ceilings is good. Ice Cream Paint Job was crazy xD.

Yeah, only song on Rebirth I really like is drop the world. Still though, that album was an experiment, and I'm really looking forward to the next Carter.

By the way, I have Da Drought 3 on my iTunes, but I can't find Sky's the limit. Are you sure it's on that mixtape or have I just gotten a mixtape that's labeled with the wrong name or something?

Listen to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0a2oXrAmOE, it's another of his "rock" songs that's actually really good, IMO.
I'm not a fan of his rock stuff either, but that song is particularly good IMO.
There is no song called "The Sky is The Limit", the real name of the song is called "Ride Fo' My N****s". It's a common misconception, most people know it as the sky is the limit, but on the track list that's not what it's called.

Yeah I just listened through the start of each song untill I recognised the piano. That explains it. I really need to get some more mixtapes, I could only find good downloads for a few of your suggestions. I've got Da Drought 3, Da Drought is over 2 and My Face can't be felt.

Yeah, those are good. You should be able to find The Leak 6 pretty easily, I was able too find it without even looking. Also, check out The Leak 2, it's got one of his best songs on their, PMW.
It also has a LOT of sick songs, Step Back, I Took Her, Poppin for tha' Paper, Brand New, Rider, Do What We Do, just to name a few off the Leak 2.
Lyric from Step Back:
Young wayne let me take a [Step Back]
And view the game and go straight and never take a [Step Back]
I'm so ahead of these rappers it's like they a [Step Back]
And I left with my gun, but my bullets, he kept that
Yep yeah, you know it's the lyrical death trap
I will make your best act [Step Back]
Bet that jet black maserati colder than a dead body
M.o.b, a [censored] couldnt eliminate
I will in the dessert your not worth the effort
As i hefner, you do like you, who? not me never
Ever never never have i ever met the devil but spit like i got a fevar
I meant fever man whatever its whatever
I got several black loaded pieces of metal
When i swear it only turn [censored] the opposite of hello
But your yellow, your coward hearted
Better get some water, get the gassoline can open
Get this [censored]in fire started
Fireman, get all mystical on em
Fireman, walk around with heat visible on em

Hehe, yeah, it's a really fast paced like, "ferocious" rap, he really kills it hard, it's like an angry rap, but that's why I like it so much, it's so fast and quick.

I know for a fact I got it in the same package I got Da Drought 3 in...I'll find it for you.
Actually it's listed on Da Drought 3 everywhere but I guess you have to download it separately.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UInURwS-Zhs is a youtube video with the dl link I got it from.

EDIT again....I should probably finish reading the whole topic next time haha...but there it is anyway. I like the name Sky's the Limit better

EDIT12777384: Urge, I recommend "The Weezy Effect", it's another of his mixtapes. There's also "The Weezy Effect 2" that has a very early version of Prom Queen. From TWE2 I recommend Hello World and I'm At War.

While that is a classic the mods tend to frown on linking to songs like that

I've actually got the Weezy effect 2, I forgot to mention that one. I love Hello World by the way, awesome song. I also like Lil Wayne feat. Jae Millz and Mack. There's no song title there, just the artists, but I like that song a lot, and it got me interested in finding more of their stuff as well, I know they're part of Young Money, so I'm assuming they're similar to Lil Wayne in style, allthough I'm staying far away from Bedrock and anything related to Gudda Gudda...if you can't find a better name than that then I'm just at a loss for words.

Yeah, I heard Gudda Gudda on some mixtapes. Didn't interest me at all.

But I know one guy who I think is awesome, and that is this dude "Richie Wess". I dont think he ever released an official album, but he makes several apparances on mixtapes.

Anyone heard of him before?

I've been really getting into Eminem lately, Insane from Relapse is an awesome song, and you can't go wrong with Lose Yourself and Stan. Any Em fans out there who can direct me to some of his more "hardcoe" songs, I prefer the songs that have a little anger to them.

I've got some Jedi Mind Tricks, haven't listened to them in a while now but it's not bad. It's up and down for me, some times I like listening to them and some times I don't.

Listen to Rabbit Run, from the 8 Mile soundtrack. Probably find it on youtube somewhere. It's one of his most hardcoe songs I've ever heard, and I have all of his CD's. No mixtapes (if he's ever come out with any) But I have his entire discography, and Rabbit Run is my favorite song of his.

I've got all the albums, I've been spending a lot on music lately (Thanks for the free tapes Weezy :) ) and I'll check that out, I normally listen to music as I play WoW or something, so using youtube is kind of a hassle when I can just use iTunes instead.

Yeah, I love listening to music when I used to play WoW..now I'm depressed bc I can't play. :(
Anyway, Rabbit Run just hits so hard man, it's a furious rap, he just murders it, harder than he murders Forever. :)
Rabbit Run is the single reason why Em is my #1 rapper of all time.
