Favorite Rap/hip-hop Song

Forever - Drake ft. Eminem, Lil Wayne and Kanye West

If they redid that song with just Eminem and he did every verse like he did his, that would be my absolute all-time favorite rap song. He's phenomenal in that song.

Of all time its probably Down 71' by Bone Thugs ~N~ Harmony

There are just way too many good songs out there some favorites:

Blacalicious - Chemical Calisthenics
Deltron 3030 - Battle Song (but I agree with Feral Guardian that whole damn cd is awesome)
2pac - picture me rollin
Nas - Warrior Song
Hieroglyphics - 7 sixes

and many more.

Oh and everything and anything by Bone Thugs ~N~ Harmony (group or solo) and Wu-Tang

Oh and I personally thing 98% of rap post-millennium is not rap but hip-pop (read: crap)

I'd agree, Kanye and Drake are kind of garbage in the song, I literally only play the last 2 verses of the song, Waynes and Eminems. Wayne really kills it also, but yeah Eminems verse is ridiculous. He murders the song. *and that's a good thing, for all you white folk*

Haha, http://i39.tinypic.com/tapoa0.jpg lol.

Also, Lupe Fiasco is amazing. I could listen to "Put You On Game" all day.

Just remembered another amazing weezy song.
What the 380 Said - Lil Wayne
Listen to it. Can't link it but, it's definitely awesome. From the My Face Can't Be Felt mixtape, with Juelz Santanna.

About who, Lil Wayne?
Well, I'm going to assume that's who you are talking about. I like Lil Wayne as a hip hop artist, not a rapper. It's no secret that most of Lil Waynes music doesn't generally make "sense", and most of his lyrics are just metaphors. His rap "style" is using catchy words and metaphors to make a point, and that's exactly it, it's catchy.

"Weezy F. Baby from Young Money baby, like the Easter Bunny baby wanted my candy, so I gave her my lollipop, then she made her body pop, then that made me kinda' hot (i'm lyin) that made me SAUNA hot, but please stop sweatin' meh, woman scream "get in meh", and what do I do? I get in them, I put on my boot and I step in them, right left in them, girl I'm nasty, I do my thang' and have you callin for meh like lassie"

Now, that doesn't really make "sense" but, when he sings it, the metaphors clash together and rhyme, and it sounds sick.
Lil Wayne honestly has created a new "rap" style, his lyrical wit is catchy and he can come up with some crazy metaphors that just make you go "lolwow" in real life, and that's why it's awesome. No one raps like Wayne. And he actually can free style pretty damn well, I've seen a lot of youtube videos of it. He's pretty good.
I don't listen to Wayne for his insanely deep and meaningful lyrics, I listen to Lil Wayne because it sounds [censored] awesome. Nothing better too ride to, too drink to, and too do whatever..else..you enjoy that makes you happy. It's catchy, it's fun, and it makes you in a good/confident mood.

Now, Eminem is what I consider "rap". I listen to Eminem for different reasons than Lil Wayne. Eminems lyrics have actual meaning behind them.

But, don't get me wrong. Some of Lil Waynes songs actually do have a lot of meaning. 3 Peat, I Feel Like Dying, Ride Fo' My N*****, and the song Everything, which he made very early in his career about his step father passing away, and the feelings he had about it and how sad he was. He has some real lyrical gems in his 1200+ song library.

I also just like his style, who he is, and where he comes from.

No one cares that you have bad taste.

My absolute favorite is probably "Long Time" by The Roots.

I can think of one Rap/Hip Hop song I actually liked and its old as the hills (and the only reason I was exposed to it was from watching Less Than Zero).

I used to be like that, but since I've started making music of my own, I don't think I can hate any kind of music

I understand what your saying but I don't know, I just can't stand the guy. His rhymes are so basic and bland and 99% are about women and money and I think people like him are giving rap/hip=hop a bad name. Thats one reason why when I talk about the "new age" rap I just call it hip-pop because thats all it is, music made for the radio, poppy little tunes that hold no meaning whatsoever besides trying to pass on the idea that life is all party and women and money.

Now Ive been a fan of rap since the early 90's and I try to give most artists a chance but when it comes to these new guys I hear on the radio today (50, lil wayne, kanye, t pain, etc), quite frankly they svck and I cannot for the life of me understand why someone would listen to it. Don't take this against you or any of you that like these guys Im just trying to say that there is so much better out there and I fail to see how these rapper got so damn popular.

Oh wow, how could I have forgotten http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXgoqG7ZU94&feature=related . A song that pretty much everyone, both male and female can relate to. And it has Nelly Furtado, back when I respected her and she wasn't her current skanky incarnation and part of the Furtado-Timberlake-Timbaland triangle of garbage. Thinking of that, she also did a song with Swollen Members back around the same time as well. Swollen members first few albums were good as well, not so much the more recent stuff.

Because all that I've heard is the mainstream trash that's always on the "top 100 lists". I'm open to trying to listen to good rap, though.

I hate to break it to you but lol, Lil wayne dropped his first album in 95, he isn't "new", he's been in the game just about as long as anyone.

Check out some of the artists in my first post when you have some time. Most of them are definitely not considered mainstream.

That just shows how little I pay attention to him...

Its just that rappers like him embody whats wrong with rap today, their songs have no value yet get pushed and played 20 times a day on every station. One of the reasons I stopped listening to the radio.

I really never really understood the concept of "if something is played a lot and everyone likes it, that means it obviously svcks".
Apparently they are doing something right. Wayne is hailed as the best rapper alive, there must be some validity behind that statement or it wouldn't be said so much. He's pretty much the most popular hip hop artist and most played hip hop artist. Just because you personally don't like it, and don't get me wrong, I respect your opinion, that's cool, but just because it's not your personal cup of tea doesn't mean it's "bad". That's personal opinion. It just so happens that about a hundred million people agree with me.

Song. Lets just say when I was young, I got an older sibling that have a whole bunch of these kind of music (blasting it loud all the time) and I love them, but yet, I did not know the title of many of these songs. This is just one of the few I eventually found out the name of. It always been my fav for this genre.
