Either Where My Mind is At by Roots Manuva or Caught, Can I Get a Witness by Public Enemy. Dizzee Rascal's latest single Dirtee Cash is getting a lot of play on my iPod too.

Actually Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos is probably my favourite Public Enemy track.

Ahh, I am fond of the whole "six Packets" album by Digital Underground.
I also like Snoop Dogg and Pharell's "Beautiful".
"LL Cool J had a few funny ones, like "Milky Cereal"
Geto Boy's "Mind playing tricks on me" is haunting. Heh.
Oaktown 357's "Juicy" was pretty danceable.

I don't consider the Roots to be rap.
Nonetheless, "break you off" and "the seed" are just kick ass.

I don't like new age rap, (Keyword being new age, you mutha!) But I am fond of 'Still' form The Ghetto Boys. I favorite activity while listening to that is hitting a copy machine with a baseball bat.

Right now it's Empire state of mind by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys. I just love that song, there's really to many great rap/hip hop songs out there for me to pick just one though, it depends on my mood really.

EDIT: Galuf, your avatar is genius! DESTRUCITY!

Jay-Z is so commercial and embodies a lot of what I really don't like about contemporary mainstream hip-hop. Which is why it annoys me that I like him so much. Hearing Empire State of Mind performed live at Wembley Stadium blew me away.

Lisa Papineau who does the vocals has a great voice, and Juan Alderete is killer on the fretless bass (he also plays for The Mars Volta and RacerX)

I try not to think about it really. I saw him live two years ago and it was amazing, it's number three on my top three concerts ever list with Foo Fighters at two and AC/DC at number one.

You've gotta hand it to him though, Jay-Z basically went from nothing to being one of the most succesfull people in the world, and honestly, he is a great rapper, at least I think so. Say what you will about him being commercial and what not, I think he's a very talented musician, and that's enough for me.

That performance was great.

About commercialism and being mainstream, I'm glad Jay-Z is mainstream, he's old school and embodies what is great about rap. Youngsters these days are all about the autotune and newfangled synthetic sound. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EWruiIjBmo is my anthem.
