My favorite the the Adventurer who doesn't bind himself to one certain direction... you might call that "JOAT", i call that "flexibility".

Magic. I used to play stealth characters, but then one day discovered the joy of the "pure mage". I levitate absolutely everywhere. I summon ghosts and whack them to keep my magicka up constantly (sign of the Atronach). I can use telekinesis, open, chameleon, sanctuary, and fortify luck to be able to do anything a thief can do. I can use charm in place of speechcraft. It doesn't feel like cheating, because it constantly requires good management of my magicka. I rarely bother with combat. If I do run out of magicka mid-fight, then I'm just good enough with a short blade to finish the job, but more than likely will drink a restore magicka potion instead and finish the job the proper magely way. I can cast shields, as well as resists in place of armor. Enchanted trinkets and potions are also a great help, also within the magic specialization. Upgrading to a better weapon or armor requires you to actually find one first. I upgrade my spells every few levels using the spellmaking service. I can't think of a single thing in stealth and combat that magic can't replace, and it does more besides.

I'm talking exclusively about Morrowind of course. I've barely touched Oblivion so I can't comment there. I think I stopped playing it as soon as I found out you couldn't levitate, anywhere, EVER.

Magic is for people who svck at the game, by that i mean there's no challenge. I prefer the specializations that require skill like stealth with magic you can just reproduce skills with magic.

I disagree very strongly with this statement, and it's also inflammatory. Magic requires more creative thinking than combat. Combat is mainly hack at enemy, repeat until dead. When you can't even control your blocks and dodges, it's pretty much just clicking the left mouse button and positioning yourself for either ranged or closed combat (I'm mainly commenting on MW combat). With magic, you have to make a ton of decisions about which spells to use, while managing your magicka pool to last the fight.

I put magic almost on par with stealth in terms of challenge. Both can be used to achieve some of the same ends, but are different styles. And magic does require skill in every different school or your casts fail, just like a lockpick attempt fails if your security isn't high enough.

Favorite is magic. I miss a fantasy rpg that focuses 100% on magic. A game where there's almost no limits to what you can do.

Least favorite: Combat. It's almost always the same anyways.

I like Magic with the Illusion and Alteration spells.

My least favorite is Combat because it's pretty boring.

Oblivion Combat... A mage in oblivion is just too weak, their most powerful spells leave them open for attack... Because they have no magicka left. A stealthy is doomed if he is found. And a combat guy has no fear...

One major reason is because in Oblivion you get to pick SEVEN major skills for whatever reason. Coupled with the fact many have been merged with others or outright removed, I actually found myself giving my ranger character major skills he'd never use (like Destruction) just to try and avoid making him too powerful.

Stealth has always been my favorite specialization, but the fact is it's also the weakest specialization in TES. Simply put, TES does a better job with magic than any other skill set.

This was especially apparent in Oblivion. Thanks to loot leveling, role playing a thief meant that you had to role play a moron. The whole point of sneaking into forbidden places and stealing stuff was to get items that you weren't supposed to have. That's what makes stealth feel rewarding. Yet in Oblivion, virtually whatever you stole was leveled to you, meaning that you simply stole a bunch of low-level, useless crap that was easily available anywhere. A thief that risks his neck to steal worthless crap is a moron. Hence, if you were a thief in Oblivion, you were a moron.

Couple this with the fact that the AI was woefully poor for stealth gameplay -- enemies were always either totally oblivious to you or totally aware of your presence, there was no middle ground, no curious or suspicious level of AI awareness where they would actually investigate their environment after hearing a sound or seeing a shadow -- and you have piss poor incentives to play as a thief or an assassin.

Mages, on the other hand, were far more fleshed out. Enchantments and spell creation allowed for more depth, and rewarded creativity more than playing as a warrior or stealthy character.

I agree. THat's why I could only really play pure mages.

Well, in all RPGs I play as a mage (excluding Fallout 3, where it is impossible). In Morrowind stealth was quite badly done so I mixed my mages with combat.
In Oblivion, I have to use some heavy magic mods to make the experience entertaining, but with them, magic is fun again and if not I can mix it with some stealth for better results.

I really cannot say which specialization is least favorite for me so I cannot vote really.

Magic is for people who svck at the game, by that i mean there's no challenge. I prefer the specializations that require skill like stealth with magic you can just reproduce skills with magic.

That is quite a silly statement really, I love magic and I do not think that I svck at TES games. How can one svck at such a game, BTW?
In RPGs, I generally prefer mages, however, the magic system in the Elder Scrolls system is rather boring. I mean, sure, flinging around lightning bolts and fireballs may seem fun at first, but then you realize that at higher levels, you'll be flinging THE EXACT SAME FIREBALLS. Sure, they might do more damage, but they still behave exactly the same. What happened to fun spells that you'd really look forward to being able to get? I blame it on spell customization. In order to make custom spells easy to make, Bethesda reduced spells down to a number of generic effects, while letting you customize things like power, duration, radius and such, thus sacrificing the cool varied spells that make playing a mage actually satisfying.

Still a fair trade-off in my eyes. I love teh possiblity to customize spells and make my own. I always hated how I learned tolove one spell in any other game and jsut when I learned to use it well it became too weak and I had to leave it and go for another. Sure, some of the effects need rafinement, but i still like the idea.

Wow, quite an even split!

I love stealth, I like to play a sneaky nord female assassin. I don't hate any of them but my least used is Magic, purely because I feel the games don't yet make it worth enough to be worth playing a mage.

LOL, playing a mage is the most overpowered thing in oblivion because of the spell creator + spell stacking

I cannot answer this poll because I dont have a "least favorite". I always go for Magic. End of story.

I'm always like this:

Race: Breton (or my own variant of Lineage 2 Darkelf, which is a lot the same)
Spec: Magic
Stats: Endurance, Luck
Skills: any non-magic in a nice collection

Thats maxing the archieveable level and making it easier to train magic (as Specialization gets faster learning).

I'm entirely too much of a klepto not to play thieves. Stealth is my main focus. Combat is not. I don't like playing warriors.

Love me some stealth, not a huge fan of magic classes...found more pure magic players very hard to play, especially in Morrowind.

I've always preferred being a Mage, especially in Oblivion. I love how much more convenient it is, having every spell I need hotkey'ed to my pad without having to find new weapons/repair armor etc. Combat is my least favourite, just because of fond memories with my assassin characters in Morrowind.

This poll was hard. I liked all three of those categories. However, I'm having to say stealth as least favorite, as I think it is the gameplay mechanic that needs the most tweaking. Combat was always fun for me.

I decided to choose Stealth as least favorite.

As I already said, this is not true though, for I never choose Combat either.

But I cannot answer the poll without specifying a choice, so here it is.

I'd say stealth. I love sneaking behind people and stab them in their backs.
I don't like magic, because some spells are just too overpowered :(

Combat because you can cover your magic worries with magicka items and stealth isn't all so important to me.

My fav is combat, i usually make a soldier/berserker character first.

least fav is magic, its just not my thing.

I have tried that, I did not like it. I found that I did not have a particular strong point. But I like Nightblades and Spellswords because they incorporate 2 classes.

Personally, my favorite is stealth for many of the previously mentioned reasons. My least is combat for I do not like running around like a barbarian smashing everything in my path.
