I tie between Nords and Redguards. My first character is usually a Nord, the second Redguard.

I like Redguard, Imperial and Argonian. My favorite is probably Redguard, because it was my first good character in Morrowind and my character that got the most hours in Oblivion.

In Arena-Dunmer

In Daggerfall-Dunmer

In Morrowind-Dunmer

In Oblivionl-Imperial

I do not like the Dunmer more than Imperials, but they are my second favorite race. However, in Arena and Daggerfall, Imperials were not a playable race and Morrowind takes place in the home of the Dunmer, so I stick with Dunmer for Morrowind, as well(didn't like Imperials in Morrowind, either, so my choice was affected by that), but Oblivion takes place in the home of the Imperials(if it was outside of Morrowind I would play an Imperial, anyway) and I really like the Imperials as they were presented in Oblivion(cooler voices, customizable faces as well as faces that I believe look better, and diversity among them in that they range in skin tone from pale skin to bronze skin and don't appear to be the same unchangable ages). If TES V takes place out of Morrowind, I will most likely play as an Imperial, most of the time.

My #1 remains Argonian - they're simply appealing no matter what role they serve. I'm always surprised by how many people feel the same way on these polls - when you read elsewhere in the forums, it's easy to get the impression that everyone plays as either Imperials or Dunmer.

Otherwise, I've always been fond of Redguards and Altmer, in no particular order. Really, the race I choose depends on the warrior/wizard/thief paradigm. As it so happens, I'm the more sneaky sort.

Whether im playing a combat, stealth or magic class i always play as a Dunmer as they seem to be the easiest and most enjoyable for me to RP.

Ill occasionally make an Argonian or a Khajiit, but it usually doesnt last long.

Breton, beast races, high elf. I honestly don't understand the Dunmer passion.

My first character was a khajiit. When I couldn't afford the game, a friend from school brought me the manual and the khajiit seemed like they'd be THE COOLEST. Must have sunk 100 hours into him, didn't touch the main quest (didn't even know about it).

Three way tie of Redguard (Lore-Reason and Awesome starting warriors, not to mention they tend to be the only non-white human race in-game), Argonian (idea of playing a Lizard that isn't a "Evil Race" got my attention for getting Morrowind in the first place, or the manner of even playing as a Lizard race to begin with), and Lilmothiit (Fox-Race via mods).

I honestly don't understand the Dunmer passion.

One of the things I would blame Morrowind for. Either stat-wise, cultural-wise, or people usually think of them like they think of dark elves via any fantasy genre. My theory, I guess.

Yeah, but dark elves have really always been the "cool" kid in fantasy.

I choose Breton for one reason, the Magic! They start with 50% resistance, and a Magica bounus. Not to mention thier Dragon skin ability.

With the Breton you can become immun to Magica so to speak. If you choose the sign of the Atronach you get the +150 Magica (giving you a total of +200) and 50% spell absorbtion; but your Magica gets stunned.

Which so yeah your Magica gets stunned .... but who cares?

With +200 magica and 50% of the Magica you resist and the other 50% you absorb it makes it to where Magica can't even touch you ;)

Also one skilled in Alchemy can make potions to restore magica.

With the Breton you can become basicly invarunable to magica and with stunned magica it forces you to use your lesser abilities causeing you to level up fairly even.

Argonians and nords.

Argonians make nice looking followers of Nurgle, and nords are just awesome.

I suppose my uber mage was a high elf, but by the time I warped him in character creation he looked like a really tall imperial with yellow skin.

I do the same, but I even change the skin to pinkish/white.

Dark Elves are my favourite though, due to my love of Drizzt.

Yes. Compounding onto the "Morrowind Effect", many people view Dunmer through the lens of... "They're elves...but dark, and troubled, much like myself *brood*" The Dunmer simply fulfill alot of appealling fantasy archetypes, that of the "gruff, no-nonsense warrior" and whatnot. While the Dunmer have a truly fascinating culture, I also find it personally reprehensible. Of all the races of Tamriel, the Dunmer are the only ones I have trouble associating with. At least the Morrowind natives. I don't really have an issue with the Dunmer so much as their native culture.

I like Dunmer characters, but only because they always go against Dunmer stereotypes. I'm not a fan of the stereotypical Dunmer native to Morrowind, but my Imperialized Dunmer are always against slavery and are much kinder than portrayed in stereotypes. Also, they worship the Nine. I'm an Imperial fan all around, and no character has to follow stereotypes, which is why I love playing as Dunmer and, in my mind, showing Tamriel that not all Dunmer are cruel slavers.

Well put. I RP in much the same way.

Question: has anyone RPed a fundamentalist Dunmer before? Slaving, xenophobic, obsessed with the Tribunal (or the Tribunal that was)?

I usually play as Imperials in Morrowind and Oblivion because I like to play as characters who are similar to me, so that I can better experience the fantasy.

In Daggerfall I just play as whatever, my most recent character is a Redguard warrior which I am finding to be a lot of fun.

I voted Imperial, though I've played as every race. They're all really cool in their own ways.

It's difficult to even make it through the first dungeon of Daggerfall without a character proficient in melee...preferrably blunt, for the skeletons. =)

I prefer custom races, but when I play a stock race it's usually a Wood Elf for a stealthy character or Breton for a mage or warrior.

I go with the Dunmer. They have the grace of elves and the grumpiness of my grandfather; that is just a combination I have to love.

But to be honest, when I started playing Morrowind I used to dislike them, even hate them for their racism, slavery and arrogance. Then I realized how emotionally affected I was by this race while I pretty much stayed indifferent to all the other races and that was the point when my fascination for the Dunmer started. Their culture, lifestyle, behavior...actually their lore in general gave them so much life compared to the other races (cos for me reading about some race's culture wasn't the same as experiencing it).
I still would punch most of them in the face if I could.

And yes I guess there are many people who did ^^
It is really a whole new (and imo fun) experience to play an Ashlander, who hates everything imperial and pretty much avoids civilisation or an arrogant Telvanni Lord who gives a damn about freedom and such petty things.
