[Poll] Favorite species to play as

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 1:12 pm

Well put. I RP in much the same way.

Question: has anyone RPed a fundamentalist Dunmer before? Slaving, xenophobic, obsessed with the Tribunal (or the Tribunal that was)?

I have 4 Dunmer characters that I play and role play equally, a traditional honor bound Redoran war chief, an Indoril hand of Almalexia who's turned away from the goddess, a Telvanni mage-lord who is a bit more outgoing (think Aryon-like) and a royal guard of Helseth who's a born Hlaalu but detests the greedy and deceitful House.

Pretty fundamentalist but none of them are really giant [censored] like most Dunmer. The Telvanni has a slave but he's very kind to her. The Redoran and the Indoril were pretty into the Tribunal but the Indoril turned his back and the Redoran came to grips with the end of the Tribunal better than most Dunmer. The Telvanni harbors no religious beliefs. The Hlaalu doesn't either, as he is Nerevarine and CoC so he's met so many gods face to face he only respects them, no fear or worship. The Indoril and Redoran follow post-Tribunal Temple doctrine so are big into Ancestor worship and the Good Daedra.

As for xenophobia, the Hlaalu is the most tolerant as he has spent a lot of time outside Morrowind, the others are only mildly xenophobic.

I think these things through :P

I need a Dres character but he/she would be hard to roleplay IMO.

I prefer custom races, but when I play a stock race it's usually a Wood Elf for a stealthy character or Breton for a mage or warrior.

May I ask why you prefer custom races?

I couldn't do it, myself - being a strict roleplayer, it would break immersion for me. I've always preferred the feeling of being part of a "world" or a larger community. If I was a lone "Spirit Elf" in a land filled with Imperials and and other "stock" races, I'd have a hard time imagining that people wouldn't react in utter terror and amazement at my alien visage.

Hah. By "alien visage" these custom races tend to suggest big pearly eyes and Final Fantasy hair. I would be terrified too.

Argonians as I always liked lizards and reptiles and have a fasination with them and suits well with my playstyle. If not that Britons for more magical power with less arrogance and weakness as the Altmer. Also on occasion use khajiits for thief characters.

So
1.Argonians
2.Britions
3.Khajiits

My favorite character was a High Elf and he owned, though I usually prefer Argonians and Dunmer.

Orcs, followed very closely by argonians. Nords are cool too. I rarely ever play any of the other races, unless I want to make some kind of uber spellcaster (in which case, orcs and nords aren't really an option and argonians aren't that great a choice).

Yeah, I had a morrowind character was a redoran/temple guy. Never did the main quest with him though.

Bosmer or Khajiit. I have played only once as Nord but they are fine too.

I do quite often, my most recent was a Temple worshipping Indoril who despises Imperials for their occupation of his homeland, has a fanatical hatered for vampires and necromancers and will not enter ancestral tombs unless absolutely necessary. He dislikes and distrusts khajiit, thinking they are all lawless thieves and skooma addicts but will tolerate argonians because he believes although they are just animals, some at least have honor.
I plan on finishing the tribunal quests with him, causing him to become a shell of his once proud self, casting aside his indoril armour and retreating to solsthiem to live his life as a hermit... Where he will become embroiled in the events of Bloodmoon.

I should have come back to this sooner. :)

The races I use aren't lore-breaking. Maybe stretching it a bit. Mostly Khajiit variants that are more manlike than the default Khajiit - DesuChan's Kawa-Khajiit race is the least grounded in lore but there's also Ohmes and Ohmes-Raht races that I use (the main difference is that one has fur and cat ears, one has no fur and elf ears). Aside from Khajiit variants, there's the Ainmhi (no fur, cat ears), the lore behind them is that they were created by a wizard - not necessarily lore-breaking but certainly not canon. I made a race of http://obss.us/d/3017-1/Sea+006+Bust.jpg (basically retextured Imperials, using a marble texture) right before I quit playing Oblivion the last time to go back to Fallout 3. Then there's the Hidden Elves aka Mystic Elves, which I suppose stretch the lore a bit, but they could be considered the remnants of the Ayleid race, which are implied to still be around, and hiding, based on some in-game books.

Of course I've also been trying to perfect my http://obss.us/d/1296-1/Kara+001+Size.jpg race mod. It's coming along, but it's rather stalled due to my not playing Oblivion anymore.

Gonna have to say Brenton. I like their culture and there racial abilities of stoneskin and +magica are some of the strongest in the game. By strongest I mean they are not simply replaced by a breath under water spell or a fear up to humanoid level 5.

Started with Wood Elves, then I started going Imperial, then I decided I liked Bretons too, and Dark Elves were too cool to pass up, then I noticed how interesting High Elves were. Then I realized what great characters Redguards and Nords make. Eventually, Argonians and Khajiit had the charm of being mysterious, so I decided to join their ranks for a while. Last, but certainly not least, I felt bad that I hadn't made many Orc characters and I ended up loving it.

I love playing as every species. :hugs: And I love all of their cultures... although I don't have much knowledge of Argonian culture... they're pretty mysterious, I can never feel like I'm "one of them" because I don't know how their native culture works.

But yeah I have over 2,000 saves... And I'm still playing the game. (Don't worry, I clear them out every once in a while) :P

Khajiit.

I love sneak kills, and how bad ass they are at them to start with.

Defiantly Khajiit. My main character has always been a thief. I cannot think of a more suitable race. Usually play a Argonian mage type character also, along with a Nord warrior. Khajiit thief has and probably will always remain my favorite as it is my main, and most fun to play.

I will say orc. When I play as an axe-wielding orc i feel like a big mean green killing machine.

Usually a Nord in Daggerfall, a Dark Elf in Morrowind, and an Imperial in Oblivion.

Always an Argonian, and always a thief that's either a mage or an archer. What I like about playing as an Argonian is that the race does not at all go with what my characters usually specialize in. So instead of using a Khajiit thief, an Altmer mage or a Breton Archer, I use an Argonian which isn't really good at any of those things. I like the challenge. Plus, I just really like the Argonian race in general.

Edit: Looks like I already posted in this thread before. Oh well.

I like to play Argonian or Dunmer in morrowind, I usually play as an Orc, but liked it men Argonians were Warriors in Medium Armor and using a spear. I like to play as a dunmer because you belong iin that universe. (you feel like an outcast in telvanni when you are a breton.) In oblivion I don't play as an imperial because you dont get the same feeling even though you are in Cyrodiil. I feel more like an imperial when i'm a member of the imperial legion.
