Favorite Unofficial Follower

Post » Sat Mar 06, 2010 12:24 am

These topics seem to always be about the 8 official followers like Fawkes, Cross, Butch, RL-3, Jericho, Clover, Charon, and Dogmeat. But what about the followers who are only temporary like Sydney, Sticky, Red, Shorty, Cherry, etc. Which of them are your favorites?

Mine is Sydney, the Relic Hunter chick you meet at the National Archives. I think she's pretty cool and I like learning about her past. She's the only non-official follower I would consider exploiting as a companion and bringing her around the Wasteland with me.

Sticky --> Shorty.

In any case, my favourite unofficial follower would have to be Sydney; she's cool and tough -- what more would you want?

Though, Red just might take her place. You know why, Sesame. ;)

A Custom follower I made named Shorty. He is based off of me. Has an 80 in smallguns, sneak, explosives, and 300hp. Not real powerful, but not a push over either. I was thinking of releasing it as a mod, but ehh I dunno

An unofficial follower without a sneer, whiny voice and who doesn't
Spoiler
die every ninety seconds in the basemant of the National Archives unless you babysit her constantly.
But that's just off the top of my head. :D

I like Sticky best. His stories made me laugh until I cried the first time I met him. Plus, if you put him in Power Armor he looks ridiculous and he is hilariously aggressive. I gave him a Ripper once (he wastes ammo worse than Charon) and took him out with Charon and Jericho. He was attacking Outcasts and Enclave before even Charon or Jericho could get to them. It was very entertaining.

Sticky the Hellfire Darter. Picks fights with those bigger than him everywhere he goes and even wins sometimes. He and his badass little attitude nearly screwed things up for me in The Pitt but it was so funny I love him for it.

Sydney the Relic Hunter. There is also a mod that allows you to recruit her as a permanent companion after you finish the quest "Stealing Independence".

Has anyone used Bumble as a distraction? I always just sell her.

Nah, she's pretty much useless, and I'm not THAT evil. :P Heck, whenever I lead her to that (somewhat sinister) slaver I feel really bad. Such a happy, innocent child... really, one of the only people who comes from Lamplight that won't become a brat.

Most of the kids from Lamplight are OK, just Princess, Macready, and Sammy are the little toerags. And some of them are pretty funny, like Zip the Nuka-Swilling Mole Boy. But you're right, I think the creepiest thing about that scene is that the Slaver is so good with kids. Bumble has no idea what's coming when she goes off with her. It's kind of like Bryan thanking you profusely as he heads off to Paradise Falls.

As for followers, if you can't arm them, Sydney is the best, her 10mm subgun is a moderately formidable piece (better that Butch or Cross's standard weapons). But if you can, I'm kind of partial to Shorty. He's about as vulnerable as the others, but you don't feel quite as bad if something happens to him. And if you give him a decent piece like a Minigun or Flamer, he can do some damage.

sydney.
Comes with a very good weapon, can stand on her own against a few enemies, and (IIRC) unlike the other unofficials you can heal her immediatly. her fawkes and dogmeat can deal with about anything before I get a hance to get my weapon unholstered.

Question: Reilly's Rangers don't really follow you anywhere, but you do go the same direction for awhile. So could Brick be considered an unofficial follower? Because Brick and Eugene TOTALLY rock!

Not really because you can't take Brick anywhere with you. At least Benji sticks with you for a few different missions. It might be interesting if you could trade Fawkes for Brick.

If I was going to lose a potential in-game Follower for Brick, I'd dump Butch. He seems pretty useless anyway. And who wouldn't drool at the thought of Brick AND Fawkes (both with bottomless ammo) backing their play?

Sticky was fun, I almost wish I had kept him with me. I actually liked his stories, and never got tired of hearing about Super Dupe Dave. In my (very) early days in Fallout I did have Cherry as a follower, I was quite excited about this at the time. My first ever follower. But it didn't turn out well...I didn't think to give her any weapons or armour and she died approximately 5 seconds after leaving Dukov's place. A mirelurk snapped her arm right off.
