Favorite video game series?

Post » Tue Jan 21, 2014 1:13 pm

Hey folks the topic title is self-explanatory I'm interested to see what people say and it will give me good suggestions on what series to start next and really get my teeth into.

As for Me I love Fallout (for the palpable choice and consequences in every facet of the game), Metal Gear Solid (great cinematic storyline and excellent stealth gameplay bar mgs 4), Bioshock (probably the best settings ever in any medium) and Final fantasy (for it's characters and fun combat) they all have engaging stories as well but they all have a special place in my heart.

Hmm, very little come to mind however.

Dragon quest series (Dragon quest VIII is my favorite game of all time).

Metal gear solid cause it's freaking awesome. (My favorite was part one until I played snake eater and loved it to death)

TES because I love the lore and the freedom.

Fallout because I'm a svcker for post-apocalyptic anything.

Dragon age....I'm not to sure about it anymore so...I'll see what DAI looks like when it comes out.

The walking dead games (The telltale series)

That's all that I can think of atm.....Oh and if you like pure fun/madness, play GTAV online, it's crazy fun!

Well, Origins is always worth a playtrough, if you can handle the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sh3QPjhZP58 :hehe: It's expansion Awakening isn't bad either.

Also the Mass Effect series is good for cinematic stories and choices and consequences. The trilogy is definitely worth a playtrough for pretty much everyone. The ending of the third game raised some major controversy, but like everything on the internet, it's not nearly as bad as the internet would have you believe

if i had to pick only one...?

the "Might and Magic" franchise (back when it was ran by 3DO and New World Computing of course, not the abomination Ubisoft made it into)..
however, that may be nostalgia talking..

Mass Effect is a game that on paper I should love but the gameplay does nothing for me, though it probably doesn't help that I started on the second.

Love bioshock and bioshock infinite but the second was a step down, granted it wasn't made by irrational.

System Shock 1+2. Bioshock was a poor, runty substitute, enough to make Shodan blush with embarrassment.

No One Lives Forever - go, find it and buy them NOW!

The Witcher - smacks Bethesda across the face with a 2x4 then curb stomps them.

Thief - pure gaming bliss - and Benny!

Unreal - both the single player and the Tournament series, Oh Flak Cannon...

TES is my number one hands down.

Then some classics like Deus Ex, Thief, Age Of Empires.

I thought everyone already knew that Mass Effect was the all time greatest game series?

Warcraft, pre-WoW, for sure (not that I have anything against WoW, I just barely played it, and never really followed it and I don't know what's going on anymore). Beat all 3 RTS games, WC3 like a dozen times :P

I consider Fallout my all time favorite series, following Mass Effect, The Witcher, and Halo.

With the exception of Halo, do all of the series have much in common. RPG series that have excellent story telling, the freedom of choice for the player to decide how the story changes that will lead to different outcomes and consequences, a well written universe full of detail and lore, and on top of all of it can it manage to deliver enjoyable gameplay (both the original Fallout games and newer styled ones). Halo on the other hand, although it's no RPG by any means and is rather linear in story telling, I consider a favorite for being a fun shooter capable of having a good story and an extraordinary universe that has expanded the franchise into more than just video games alone.

Other series I enjoy and are worth mentioning are the Shock games and the Red Dead series. However, I cannot consider them as favored for me as those mentioned above. For the Shock games, the System Shock series by itself is all around fantastic. With the Bioshock series however, do I consider the first game very good but it's the only game of the series that I actually cherish dearly as I find the later games in the series unable to live up to it (Bioshock 2 in terms of story, Bioshock Infinite in terms of gameplay and all around lack of elements that make a Shock game). I enjoy Red Dead games but it was mainly Red Dead Redemption that created my love for it. Although Red Dead Revolver is also a good game on its own terms. Still, both of these series have at least one game I consider to be one of my most beloved games ever, Bioshock and Red Dead Redemption.

I'm not picking on you per-say but what is it about Mass Effect specifically you like?

I tried it and played it on and off for about 15 hours without ever getting drawn in, maybe you can rekindle my interest in mass effect 2.

The first game helps a little with the overall story and stuff, but it isn't really needed to play to enjoy SS2. Not to mention it's much harder to buy than SS2

I was considering adding that game to my list, but decided against it because of the 3rd game and the fact I don't have much hope for the 4th game. 1&2 are very good though.

I thought so at first but after playing through a few times I learned to love it equally, sure it didn't have the twist ending that the first and Infinite had but the story of love and the teaching of that love between a father and daughter was what really shined through.

"And then father, the Rapture dream was over. You taught me that 'evil' is just a word. Under the skin, it's simple pain. For you, mercy was victory. You sacrificed, you endured, and when given the chance, you forgave. Always. Mother believed this world was irredeemable, but she was wrong, Father. We are Utopia, you and I, and in forgiving, we left the door open for her" - Elanor Lamb *Cue crying*

"Look I see someone with a different opinion than mine, can't have any of that here!"

There is only one video games series I love unreservedly, and that is the Elder Scrolls.
