The article was a total FU to all PC users. Made me laugh.

Been tinkering around with my level 34 breton in oblivion today.

I've got about 20 spells I use often....

I've got at least another 20 spells that come in handy at times....

I've got a huge number (no idea how many) of obsolete, or useless, spells. Many bought just to have the effect for custom made stuff. No goofy training spells.

I've got room for 8 hotkeys. :verymad:

Oh, hell yes to a favorites tab. I was squeaking for just such a thing during the summer.

Lets hope that at least they make an UI with smaller fonts for the PC. But, given their past answers: "we cant make something that a single modder does in 2 days", i wouldn′t keep my hopes up.

That actually could work if they did it other way: you hold a shortcut button, the game pauses while you hold it, the menu appears, better not full screen, and with anologue joystick on consoles/mouse wheel on PCs you choose what you need. That doesn't break the immersion... Maybe that is not better than one-button shortcuts, but is definitely better than the new menu.

And it needs a new sorting system. Alphabetic doesn't work. The best one is customizable order

?? i think they really should have done a quick basic video for this.... cuz it sounds dumb... now maybe they just worded it wrong or forgot a paragraph or something but, the guy says we dont like menus so instead they do what? make a different menu? and not only did they just make a different menu, you have to always use a menu to change weapons instead of only when you want to equip something not in your hot key slots? and i dont get to put my favorite items in the order i want them to appear in....ok????? im confused..... and i dont want to sound like a complainer this is the first bit of news that i have complained about so far on Skyrim.

if anybody read that different you want to break it down Barney style for me...please!

I was under the impression that there were going to be loadouts in some fashion... and also maybe i read it wrong but didn't they only mention one d-pad direction. So if that is correct couldn't they do something like they did in Two Worlds 2 where they had 3 loadouts hotkeyed to 3 d-pad directions and then have the favorites menu on top of that... if that is the case then that wouldn't be so bad.

This is really stupid, after the UI article I more than ever hope for a PC only seperate UI. I mean cmon, the article didn't even mention PC controls, what the hell is this? :S I realize gameinformer is a console magazine, but ought to know that a big part of bethesdas fanbase are PC gamers and would like to know how all this works in the PC.

The article actually sounds kind of funny, on second reading.

"Everyone hates menus, they're a necessary evil. So of course Bethesda's replaced one of the most useful features in games with a menu! GENIUS!" :P
I'm really hoping it's just something done in addition to hotkeys, and that GI just described it poorly.

Yeah I'm thinking they would have to have some kind of Hotkey (item wheel) function as well, even for us consol players, because I don't think anyone wants to pause the game to go to any kind of menu just to use a health potion. This is the only subject people will probably all agree on but only time will tell.

I'm not sure how it will work. So I will wait to see it with my own eyes.

But why the hell is it ordered ALPHABETICALLY?!

Why can't I pick the order?

Gstaff confirmed there will be hot keys for PC. For console up on d-pad brings up favorite, doesn't mention all seven other directions.

well, it's simply make it cooler during combats I think.

see it this way:
Say you like to collect stuff. or keep it for selling to the merchants.
well, you probably have about 5-6 weapons, 2-3 full sets of armor, same number of shields, and around 56 different kinds of potions and poisons.
well, with that menu, you can decide to only take your favorites (say, the elven longsword with the elven shield, complete with the "major potion of healing" and one poison)
I think it actually saves a lot of time, considering how damn long it was to scroll through the whole item menu to get to the right potion in Oblivion

My critical thinking teacher would not be happy with you pc people. Its a fallacy to believe something because there is no proof supporting the other side of the argument. Just cause they didn't say anything about the computer doesn't mean it's going to be the same as the console controllers. GI is kind of cattered towards people with xbox's and ps3s.

Just take a deep breath and wait till they actually say something about the pc ui. If you wanna be mad about something, be mad that they didn't say anything to you. Don't flip out cause your ui could be the same as console ui. Besides, you guys get the option to mod it.

New menu sounds strange, but I'm not going to scream about it until I've played the game.

I prefer a menu, so it's no big deal to me. I like the alphabetized feature, it's how I would organize groups or subgroups of equipable objects.
I also liked how in MW, in inventory, all my herbs, potions, weapons, clothing, and other special items were grouped accordingly on the picture menu.

So there are no hotkeys at all? That is how I interpreted that and it sounds awful. I hope they take the time to actually make the PC interface and keybinding system make sense for the PC instead of giving us a horrible port adaptation of the console UI.

Yea I don't see what was wrong with the hotkey system. The only thing i would like is the ability to have "classes".So if I wanted my bow and arrow I just need to hotjey them to the same slot. This would save on slots so one would not be taken up by bow and another by arrows.

I am wondering if it will be a real improvement over hotkeys. It doesn't sound that bad so far, although I am not wholly convinced as long as I haven't seen how this works in action.

There is no possible way it could be an improvement over hotkeys for PC users.
There's no reason we shouldn't be able to map any key to anything we choose, our version should not be held back by console button limitations.

I am reserving judgement until I see a demo of it or I get to use it myself. But I have one complaint already, I do not like that I cannot choose the order they appear in. And as for people saying they can't do that because "anolog sticks can't do that" Yes, they very well can. Think, what is a drag and drop on a PC? You hold left click and move the mouse. Could be easily done a console with say, hold the left bumper and move the right anolog stick. It's the same thing. <_<

It's ironic - I thought you couldn't get any more cumbersome than Oblivion's interface, but Bethesda's just proven otherwise. Why can't you drag and drop your items to arrange the favorites foldout, though? Oh right, because anolog sticks don't do that.

Surprisingly Bethesda doesn't just care about PC users only. Relax you will have 8,000 mods with a week to slove this "problem".
