It would be a toss-up of Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, and Fable: The Lost Chapters. Those are the definitive games of my childhood, and I think I'll be playing them twenty years from now.

There's always all of gamesas's games to consider, though.

It's a three-way tie between Jak 1, 2, and 3.

Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy was the first story-driven game I had ever played, and the series just got better from there. I have yet to play a game that has a more entertaining tale of revenge, redemption, and victory.

Team Fortress Classic for Half-life.

I do not have a reliable internet connection so I have not tried TF2. TFC was awesome because of how balanced all of the classes were and all of the crazy things teammates could do to help each other leap over obstacles and penetrate enemy defenses. No other FPS has been anywhere near as fulfilling to me.

EDIT: I forgot to mention how the user made maps were a large part of the fun.

Morrowind, because that's the first game I modded, and because I spent so much time exploring all these empty ancestral tombs and I liked it.
Quake III would come as a close second, I have some very good memories of playing it with my brother when I was in highschool.

Surprised I haven't seen Ocarina of Time mentioned more.

So, because of all the recommendations here I ordered Deus Ex and downloaded the demo that's available online that includes Liberty Island, the first mission.
I'm impressed so far. The controls are no more difficult to learn than FO3.
The "primitive" graphics don't bother me in the least (I like the player 'movement' in the demo) and it seems like it's going to be loads of fun.
I've been taking my time with the training session and will probably go through it a couple of times to really try and get the hang of the game, then take it from there.
By the time the full game arrives I should be ready to venture further. I tried to start a new game in the demo and quickly got *it* handed to me on a platter. <_<

I bought a used game disc on eBay, and paid more for shipping than I did the game.....

So thanks for all the heads up(s) on this one.

Congrats on a great purchase. You should thoroughly enjoy the rest of the game.

That's good to hear. Just make sure to really take your time. I can't stress that enough. You mentioned you were a serious fan of Bethesda games, and I mentioned that this game knocked Fallout 3 from my top spot to #2 (and moving Morrowind to #3). And the reason is that I explored every single room and nook and cranny in each level, and by doing this I discovered how amazingly rewarding exploring was. Killing enemies isn't the objective, but exploring the rooms they're in is. And if you have to kill them to do so, than so be it. Just don't go running around and killing them in the open, that's not this kind of game. You said you got *it* handed to you, and in order to avoid that you have to carefully monitor an enemy's movements and stealthily kill them. They can't hand *it* to you if you strike first. Though it's always good to have an escape route planned just in case, and the dumb AI makes it pretty easy to get away. Oh, and save often... the amount of choices in the game means you'll often want to revert back to your last save to do something a different way.

Sounds like excellent advice Antibody. I typically search and explore pretty thoroughly.

Hm impossible to answer so I answer in game types.

MMO-WOW I find it quite fun and refreshing , and I like the combat and I could care less about the lore but at the moment I am taking a break.

Sports; Backyard Soccer: A singleplayer mode longer than Black Ops and lots of clicking. Sure I almost always dominated but it was a fun game and simple to play.

Racing: Star Wars Podracer: Many tracks , many variations of tracks and high speed adrenalin ride. Only if it somehow got ported to current systems and had online.

FPS mutliplayer: 007 Nightfire I don't need to explain , I am right and you are wrong. But I will explain anyhow , great weapons , great maps and original game modes I have only seen in a 007 game.

FPS Singleplayer: Call of Duty Big Red One: The few times in a game where I almost cried losing my guys, it was better time of COD where I wasn't in a silly special ops squad.

Strategy: Advance Wars 2: Long campaign , many maps and ability to make you own . TONS of possibilities .

RPG: A three way time between TESIII , TESIV and Fallout 3.

Sandbox: The same as above plus minecraft.

Best of all time: Star Wars Battlefront! Great AI compared to sequel, insane battles and well you get the rest.

Fallout 3. It's absolutely my thing. I just love the whole nuclear apocalypse thing, it fascinates me for some reason.

Probably would have to go with Morrowimd. Probably the only game that I have passed the 1,000 hour mark with. I still play the thing on a regular basis. Not many games I own can I say that about, especially considering the game has been out for the better part of the decade. Best part, I have yet to indulge into the amazingness that is mods! Here is to another 1,000 hours and beyond.
