So, because of all the recommendations here I ordered Deus Ex and downloaded the demo that's available online that includes Liberty Island, the first mission.
I'm impressed so far. The controls are no more difficult to learn than FO3.
The "primitive" graphics don't bother me in the least (I like the player 'movement' in the demo) and it seems like it's going to be loads of fun.
I've been taking my time with the training session and will probably go through it a couple of times to really try and get the hang of the game, then take it from there.
By the time the full game arrives I should be ready to venture further. I tried to start a new game in the demo and quickly got *it* handed to me on a platter. <_<
I bought a used game disc on eBay, and paid more for shipping than I did the game.....
So thanks for all the heads up(s) on this one.
That's good to hear. Just make sure to
really take your time. I can't stress that enough. You mentioned you were a serious fan of Bethesda games, and I mentioned that this game knocked Fallout 3 from my top spot to #2 (and moving Morrowind to #3). And the reason is that I explored every single room and nook and cranny in each level, and by doing this I discovered how amazingly rewarding exploring was. Killing enemies isn't the objective, but exploring the rooms they're in is. And if you have to kill them to do so, than so be it. Just don't go running around and killing them in the open, that's not this kind of game. You said you got *it* handed to you, and in order to avoid that you have to carefully monitor an enemy's movements and stealthily kill them. They can't hand *it* to you if you strike first. Though it's always good to have an escape route planned just in case, and the dumb AI makes it pretty easy to get away. Oh, and save often... the amount of choices in the game means you'll often want to revert back to your last save to do something a different way.
