Favourite Lord Of The Rings Character.

Boromir.

Peregrin Took also.

Others are all a bit too goody-goody for my taste.

Gollum is my favorite.

And then of course Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin and Aragorn. :)

Yeah, Gollum's a great character too. The films portrayed him really well, and it was heartbreaking to watch the first argument between the two sides of his personality, Sméagol and Gollum.

Aragorn is certainly my favorite in the books and the movies. Even though they changed him quite a bit
He's everything a leader should be and he was ready to face his destiny of leading the kingdoms of men in battle against Mordor. Plus being a Ranger he's a survivalist and stealthy type guy. Which is what I like to play in RPG's. :)

Edit* I also really like Sam, Gandalf, Legolas and Gimli, who to me are just as much a pair as Merry and Pippin

Sam-wise is my favorite for the same reason as yourself. Everybody needs and should be a friend such as him. :-) I also like Faramir. Despite the hatred his father has for him, he is still a good man with a good heart, and didn't let his fathers hatred make him resentful or feel sorry for himself.

I always liked Pippin in the books just because he kept things from becoming utterly depressing at points, like Moria.

Sam, I think he's the most heroic character by the end.

And I for one disliked the Tom Bombadil part - it's too random the way he appears, shows he's above all that's happening and promptly disappears.

Me too.

Why he is my favourite aswell.

(Although because of this my nickname was Gollum for a few years)

I agree. To me, Sam was the true hero of LOTR.

I agree, and so many things that he said to Frodo make me cry every time I see the movie. I have the directors cut/extended version DVD set with the appendices (which are just as good a s the movie itself) and I cry at certain scenes EVERY time and always will. I've probably seen the whole series at least 12 times by now, if not more. :P

Beren and Luthien.

Dude wants to marry an elf, Luthien, her father won't consent and gives him an impossible task(Retrieve a silmaril from Melkor). They walk into Melkor's lair(After beating Sauron), trick melkor and all his flunkies, and steal one of the Silmarils(Almost two). Escape, both die later, they comes back to life, and get married.

So to put this into perspective. They beat Sauron, walk into his boss' lair, put him to sleep, steal a silmaril from his crown, almost get a second one when Melkor awakens and tries to kill them, escape from Melkor's lair, which is FULL OF BALROGS, get chased by a giant wolf, Beren loses his hand(and the silmaril) to it, eventually aid in killing the wolf and succeed in the mission(And then die). They come back to life, have kids, and are the great grandparents of Elrond, and Elros(who fathered the Numenor which subsequently lead to the Dunedain).

Maybe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beorn too.

Samwise's crowning moment of awesome against not only Shegoth but the orc outpost also stands out.

Neither Beren nor Beorn are in The Lord Of The Rings though. :P

My favourite character is Sam, because he's the sort of friend everyone wants to have. Loyal, selfless and loving.

Gandalf is a close second. He's one of the most powerful beings on Middle Earth, yet the way he talks to people gives the impression that he values their lives just as much as his own.

Tom Bombadil is also worth a mention. I was gutted when he didn't make it into the film.

Who's your favourite LOTR character?

My favorite is Gandalf. With Sam a close second. Hahahah, oh boy look at how thing's turned out.

Eowyn, did a dramatic reading of the Battle of the Pelennor fields for forensic competion.
Also fond of Merry, he had a wicked sense of humor and a more open view of the world outside the Shire.

As for all of Tolkiens characters, I liked Turin Turumbar, and Tuor.

Smeagol. For some reason I like the fact that he hates the sun and will only leave his cave to get his precious.

In the books I like Gandalf and Aragorn. Aragorn was better in the book in my opinion. He was more mysterious and wise most of the time, as were a lot of the other characters in comparison to the movies. Gimli also deserves a shout out, as he was not the fool in the books as he was in the movie.
In the movies I like Gandalf and Legolas and...I can't think of anyone else worth mentioning. I don't really like Frodo and Sam. They play their parts well but it's so corny and overdone at times that I just have to laugh. Merry and Pippin are pretty cool though.

Moviewise: Lurtz. Man I love that badass.

Bookwise: Smaug, or Gimli and his silky luxurious beard.
