Favourite Lord Of The Rings Character.

Post » Sun Mar 13, 2011 5:03 pm

My favourite character is Sam, because he's the sort of friend everyone wants to have. Loyal, selfless and loving.

Gandalf is a close second. He's one of the most powerful beings on Middle Earth, yet the way he talks to people gives the impression that he values their lives just as much as his own.

Tom Bombadil is also worth a mention. I was gutted when he didn't make it into the film.

Who's your favourite LOTR character?

Legolas, I have always respected the highly skilled bad-ass warrior.

I would say Sam for those same reasons. I even named my pet gecko after him

Other then that, Aragorn. Because 1. He has a beard 2. He gets all the ladies 3. he eventually becomes King 4. He's awesome in combat

One of the two Hobbit side-characters, Pippin and ???. I forgot why I like him more than the other characters.

Merry. They added comic relief.

Tom Bombadil (I'm so pissed he wasn't in the movie) and Haldir (who they killed off in the movie... Again, I'm so pissed).

In the movies, I like Aragorn. He wasn't as interesting a character in the books, though.

Pippin and Merry are great too. :D

The Witch-King of Angmar. He's dual-wielding an awesome claymore and huge flail in the movie and he rides a freaking dragon.

Smaug

If hobbit characters are alloed then this.
If not.
Sauron, he looked awesome, he was awesome (these are all about the non eye version) and he should have won.

They arent dragons, fell beast iirc..

Treebeard. Sam a close second, though I found his constants dislike of Gollum too repetitive. Every two paragraphs of them being in the same scene include at least one jab against the poor wretch.

And I for one disliked the Tom Bombadil part - it's too random the way he appears, shows he's above all that's happening and promptly disappears.

Well, that's the lore friendly name, yes. Thanks for remembering.
But still. It's lizardlike, gigantic, has scales and spikes, has huge wings, so it's able to fly and makes anyone it comes in contact with run and cry for his mother. Yep, that looks like it's technically a dragon to me.
By the way, you do have a point that they're somewhat differently depicted in the book.

This and anyone who can can make a ghost army fight for them is pretty much + 10000 in my book.

Tom Bombadil was a great character for many reasons, but for me, it was the veil of mystery around him that was the real draw. As it says in the link, is he simply a crazy hermit, or God himself? Both theories would be justified.

Ufthak of Cirith Ungol :P

I like the Uruks, and the way they act all bad-ass and don't take no smeg from the orcs

Bombadil is a good character because of the mystery surrounding him

Sam, Treebeard, Gimli and Gandalf are my favorite characters from the movies.

Frodo and Aragorn are in the books, mostly because Aragorn in the books actually acts like a king.

As for the universe...well my character Gorlaran in LOTRO of course, because I save people left and right!

Frodo, he's a warrior man.
He took a blade through he's chest and continued to live on.

I'll probably go with the obvious Gandalf. He really holds the stories together.

But as mentioned above

Sam is a great, down to earth, sturdy and loyal friend. Great qualities

Tom Bombadil because of the mystery

Also Gimli because of his gritty-ness. Though he was too much of a comic relief type character in the movies - still like him though.

I agree. Gimli was a great character in the books but at times the films portrayed him as nothing more than a bumbling idiot. Same with Pippin, although Return Of The King did put him in a more serious role.
