Update: I'm a complete idiot re: Castle building. I thought that big door was just a broken-down bit of decoration, so I built my power plant beside it. Turns out it's the Old Guns quest door... so I had to remove some power plants, and now my base doesn't have enough power for all the crap I have in it. Now to build a second floor for the power plant. And rewire the building. Again. While finding enough Minutemen to assign to all my artillery.

I honestly despise Croup Manor above all other settlements. For one, it's seaside but its borders end right at the edge, denying you water purifiers. Also, the basemant is a disgusting, flooded, ghoul-corpse-filled hole you can't build in (that happens to have the weapon bench), and the upstairs is mostly wrecked/full of those creepy mannequins before you do the customary scrap-everything cleanout.

Don't shoot it, I tried that, shot it in the head point blank. Not only did it not die. It argo the entire settlement, turrets included on my butt. Reloaded and left it alone, got back outside in time.

I am getting started on Castle too and think it's great; I used raised floor foundations for walls to close off the holes, which worked out pretty well, esp. since you can put a guard or observation spot on top of it.

Actually if you go though the doorway by your workstation and turn right. Follow the wires down the hallway and you'll come to a large room. I put two of the largest generators in there and hooked both to the already installed switch. Lit up the place and powered the large water purifier outside. Then I just ran lines from the many switches already in the castle.

Yes see above, the room at the "end" of the wiring seems to be made for placing power generators, and the holes can be filled quite nicely with foundation floors; set them at the height you want (low enough so there are no holes at the bottom) and then place more structre on top if you want.

Isn't that the bedroom? At least, it's full of Minuteman beds for me. If I did that I'd have to turn out the poor buggers and find another place for them to sleep.

EDIT: Unless I'm dumb and missed an entire room somehow. I'll check again when I have time...

I love the SLOG. I built my own tenpenny tower/hotel overlooking the swimming pool ;)

It's awesome.

Right hallway but that not the end of the corridor. Just follow the wires outside the room. One way will take you to the kitchen, the other to a perfect generator room. But...mmmmmm, its a room at the end of the hallway, has stairs leading up to the battlements I believe. And on the wall leading into the hallway is a switch with wires that your can hook your generator to, those wires are already hooked up to the castle lights, they just need power.

I got several places now that I like for settlements. Or more like private locations for myself and a couple followers.

Sanctuary Hills will always be home. I still drop in from time to time and see how everyone is doing there.

Red Rocket Truck Stop is cool. I like the fact that it has a shop with a powered door I can close. It also has a solid roof which every other location with pre-built structures seem to lack. What I dislike about this place is its hard to fortify unless you build a wall around the entire thing.

The Lighthouse is my new favorite place. Its got the boathouse that I converted into a workshop. Its got the boat that I ran power to and at night its lit up. I have the house which has its own terminal to play pip-fall and other classic games. It has a kitchen. Easy to fortify. But my word the hole in the up stairs ceiling? The beds are totally exposed to the elements. Aside from that, its my new favorite spot.

Although I recently got to the island and completed the tasks so the workbench is functional. I'm going to turn that into my mega settlement.

I've not found the lighthouse yrt, but can you put up walls and a roof to fix the ceiling hole? Sounds like a place I would like.

Wait, what, the stairwell room is large enough to fit power into? I must be even more sleep deprived than I thought. Must check again.

Taking the game slowly so have only unlocked about 8 settlements. At the moment having fun at Graygarden, am using stairs to build up to the highway above, about 5 stories to get that high. Not sure what I will do next, thinking of adding missile turrets if the game will let me place them on the highway itself.

The place with the stoner bot. I walled it in using the houses as part of the wall.
