I picked the Frost Atronach, because I usually play Nords.

The Clannfear is a really cheap but extremely powerful summon, it has a massive jump attack, and can run down most mages. In general, the clannfear s really good for mages.

My favorite though, is the Gloom Wraith. It packs some serious spell power, and melee attack, it's a great wall to put between you and the enemy.

There are two reasons for summoning something. The first is that you need an ally to attack your enemies, for which I prefer the Clannfear. Good damage/cost ratio, and none of its attack is resisted by problem enemies. But the "best" summon for any particular battle depends on the enemy, and complementing the player's skills. I.e. do you need an ally that deals some particular type of damage, or have a ranged attack for an enemy you can't reach (or can't catch)..

The other is for a sparring partner or soul source, for which I find the skeleton is best. It doesn't absorb arrows if you want to practice archery and it doesn't hit too hard if you want to raise armor/armorer/block skills. The soul/summon cost ratio's not bad either, so using up your magicka to recharge a weapon via a summon works well.

This is something Lothran is most guilty to, and he also prefers a skeleton. A very good way to gain some combat experience without endangering oneself.

Arwynn doesn't use a whole lot of magic, only the immediatly useful.Since she discovered Midas's Shop she's quested for the ingredients for different magics. She has since found a summon worthy of her.The Balrog.Onced summoned it devastates everything in its path(even Arwynn if she doesn't cast invisibility on herself). It's a delight to watch its destructive nature unleashed on whoever pisses off Arwynn, whether they be bandits, soldiers,or townfolk.

My favorite is the Clannfear. He's fast, aggressive and most importantly, hunts forward. I made a custom spell that extends his duration. I made another custom spell that gives him buffs in fortifying health, shield and speed. I summon him, just out-of-range of enemies. I cast the buff spell. I move into the enemy's radius, or make myself seen. Watch the fun. :twirl:

Clannfears are dead useful. I also love summoning atronachs depending on the enemy. For example, a fire atronach to kill a zombie, or a frost atronach to fight goblins. when versing enemies with no weakness to magic, i use the clannfear. Although the wrath sounds impressive, ill give that a try as well. Overall i voted clannfear. :obliviongate:

Inspired by another thread I came up with this 'Favourite' poll, my first for 2011.

I realise there are different types of skeletons, zombies and so on, but if you wish you can always specify exactly what you like to summon in the heat of battle.
I chose not to include unique scrolls, special tomes or Greater Powers, only regular summons that can be bought in Cyrodiil or Shivering Isles.

I generally prefer wraiths as they are immune to normal weapons. They are also stronger than ghosts and therefore my summon of choice.

So, what say you?

I don't use summoning very often, simply because I don't think of it most of the time, but I do have a fondness for the Hunger. They're ugly, but there's just something about them that appeals to me...

I really like them, they look cool and I like to think bandits in Cyrodiil gets frightened when I summon them because it′s something they have never seen before :)

I′ve always had this problem with liches. I summon them and they just float there, not doing anything. C′mon man, this is not what I pay you for! :banghead:

I guess they′re supposed to be heavy-duty spellcasters but to me they fail big in that department :shakehead:

For a modded game Spectral Warriors are good. If they were available in vanilla then they would be too good. But for vanilla summon I would say mountain lions are a decent, low health, high damage hitman for low cost.

Except you still aren't in a vanilla game with a mountain lion summon.

I wish summons would summon their summons. Like I wish a Spider Daedra would summon its Spiderlings, or a Xivilai summons his Clannfear. That would be deadly.
