[RELz] FCOM Convergence and UFCOM

Got a FCOM-related persistent crash :/

Llvl 43 char, 92hr game, ~24mb game file size.

Location: small brdige east of Shadow's Rest Cavern, ShadowsRestCavernExterion -11 29

As soon as i move N and change cell to Wilderness -11 30 - the game crashes. Same with weOCPS enabled.

Disabled all mods, then tried enabling them 1 by 1 and checking. FCOM_Convergence.esp is causing crash.

Tried waitng at the spot for 24 hours then moving - same result.

Cell respawn time - 1 months. The location i was moving into is unvisited yet.

What can be done to fix it?

I'm no expert on this but FCOM_Convergence.esp doesn't affect any cells directly so a crash caused by it shouldn't be place specific AFAIK. Which seems to indicate a bad spawn perhaps. Have you tried waiting for a respawn and then change the same cell?

Also, even if you seem to have pinpointed the issue to FCOM_Convergence.esp, make sure you have Oblivion WarCry EV.esp patched to 1.085b. Having it unpatched causes the only CTDs caused by spawns that I know of with FCOM.

You know, I have never taken a char over Lvl 40 and the higher the level the less players (read: testers) I'd guess, so if there are some bad spawns lingering in FCOM I'd suspect that they would pop up on higher levels.

Also, personally I'm a bit suspicious when it comes to long spawn times. It's known that really long spawn times can mess up the game. I don't think 1 month would cause such problems but there will be much more info needed to store in the save. Also, it makes it a chore to update certain mods and trouble shoot stuff that might be connected to spawns.

I do occasionally get that with my higher-level characters. It is very hard to pinpoint why, since it happens so randomly ... I am almost leaning toward a particular creature/ingredient set, since the next time I load the cell the spawn point invariably works fine. But I've no idea what it is, since I never get to see it. :nuke:

You did disable everything but OOO/MMM/FCOM/BgBalancingEVCore.esp and rebuilt patch and tested it that way to make sure..

So who's gonna take over development of FCOM? I said I wouldn't mention this again, but I don't think dev is coming back. I know he had a kid. I have two brothers, both with young kids (2, 6, and 9 months), so I know how time consuming it is. But it's been over a year now with no new progress (I don't think).

Where have you been? Corepc and the rest of the team continue FCOM work all the time. The uFCOM update, new MMM version, conversion of various FCOM components to BSAs, now Fran's getting looked at for repackaging and updating... The list goes on.

As it is, Corepc is heading the development of UFCOM. Basically, FCOM 0.9.9.5 as outlined by dev_akm in the opening post is on hold. The plan is to release updates of OOO, MMM and UFCOM - plus also bsa versions of the FCOM mods, making installs easier. But the goal of UFCOM as it stands is to optimize the integration with the updates of MMM and OOO - and also tweaks, bug fixing. That is, we're not working on the Dremora overhaul etc. as it is. When all that is done I guess we'll have to go from there.

Oh, well I did notice the BSA's (I have them). But UFCOM is just FCOM updated for MMM. Not really an incremental release. But if CorePC is updating FCOM according to the 0.9.9.5 release notes then we're in business. I'm glad to hear it. OOO needs a new release too.

I thought I just said that the upcoming UFCOM update is not FCOM 0.9.9.5 and that we're not working on, say, the Dremora overhaul that is mentioned in its release notes. The UFCOM update will focus on integration, tweaks, fixes as said. Oh well, English is not my first language.

So I installed this mod setup for the first time after recently reinstalling Oblivion. Well I should say 3rd time, since I kept screwing things up the first 2 times.

Anyway, things have been running fairly smoothly except for these visually incorrect mobs I've run into in/around Oblivion gates. Astral Fire is the name I recall for these mobs, however I had spotted another (same model different name) one but crashed before I could get the name. After doing some searching I have found exactly 1 thread (from March) that mentions this exact issue. Sadly there was no "fix" in regards to it in the thread, but someone did mention posting in the FCOM thread, so here I am.

I am going to reuse his picture as its the same issue. (Ignore the item icon for now, as I have not yet come across that error yet)

Needless to say, popping into a Sigil tower and having that dab smack in my face is just slightly distracting.

Having an item with Night Eye enchantment will seemingly hide the distorted graphics as well.. which has helped somewhat.

Oh, my fault. I misread the post. Sorry. Well, 0.9.9.5 should be worked on, IMHO.

Why? Is something missing from Oscuro's original content or broken?
As for FCOM 9.9.5, you've never had it, so why are you missing it?
If you'd care to revise what's been released in the last 12 months are you seriously telling me there's been nothing done to improve FCOM?

Astral Fires are from WarCry. Is it patched to 1.085b? Are you using the test bsa or are you using a standard install of it? Are you using large, medium or small textures?

EDIT: Hm, I thought it might be missing mipmaps which can cause weirdness if using medium/small textures, but all the relevant textures seem to be mipmapped.

No, nothing is missing or broken. It's just been quite a while since the last release. It would be nice to play that new quest. I've played 1.34 B5 trough twice.

I'm just saying some new content from FCOM would be nice. I never said there's nothing being done to improve it. It doesn't look like dev will be back anytime soon. Would be nice to have someone pick up where he left off. I'm patient enough, but maybe it's time someone else worked on the new release of both OOO and FCOM.

Used to be FranOOOMMM. Or something like that. I don't know why it's FCOM and not FWOM. Maybe because FCOM sounds cooler.

Warcry is patched. I am not using test BSAs, only the ones that came with MMM and Frans. (MMM is renamed to load under FCOM_Convergence) Not sure on the large/medium/small textures part. Is that a mod setting or a default game setting? {edit: If it is a game setting, I am using Medium}

Thanks. Yes, I meant the game setting for textures. They worked fine for me pre-bsa and I just spawned one using the bsa - and it looked as it should as well. My guess would be that it doesn't show up properly with medium/small textures for some reason, but it's beyond my abilities to check what might cause that. As said, the textures seem to be properly mipmapped - and, well, that is how far my knowledge of this goes. We'll have to wait for showler or Corepc for some insight I'd guess.

Seems you are correct. I changed my settings to Large Textures and I no longer have that issue. I also haven't been CTDing as much since the change either.

Definitely. Use the latest Oblivion Script Extender, Wrye Python, Wrye Bash, BOSS, boss masterlist, OOO, MMM, FCOM, UFCOM...

And, well, latest of everything else, just for good measure. :D
