FCOM Questions..

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:38 am

About FCOM, is BOMM absolutely neccisary? As it seems the file will not work with my word proccessor.

P.S I am following http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/prep

I am getting so dam confused is there no easier way to get mods to work? The guide has 101 things to do that I cant seem to find... files are missing. errors are appearing (assuming cause of Windows 7) and no solutions to be found...

You do not need BOMM. Do you have Oblivion installed outside of the default folder?

Thanks and no it is in the default folder, is there a really good and easy guide, I found that guide stated (http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/walkthroughs/fcomguide) to be majorly confusing.

P.S I am ready to uninstall to do a clean start.

Basicly my friend told me "the game gets way better with mods" so I said sweet send the links my way, but then he said he can't because there were a lot of steps to be taken and showed my the FCOm convergence link and all the steps that need to be taken and now I am completely saddened by the amount of work that must be done.

While trying to follow FCOM Convergence I hit a lot of dead links, when searching for alternative links I found updated versions, and so I turned to guides which just seem to completely confuse me, because I don't understand when it just says open "file" and edit "sentence" and when I can't find the sentence or file there is no solution or comment by the maker...

Then do not install FCOM. That is not a good mod to start out with. What on that page can you not find, by the way? All of the links are current?

Edit: All of the links should be current.

Edit: Also, the author of FCOM Convergence is away for the time being. The rest of the FCOM team maintains updated instructions in the opening post of the FCOM thread. The guide on TESIV:POSItive is an unofficial guide, I put together for the purpose of consolidating installation instructions for users and has no association with the FCOM team.

The thing is there are so many mods that FCOM supports that I want, but they all need script enablers and managers and the sort, I just don't know which to get and how to install and configure them as it isn't really a simple point and click operation, a lot of mods are (I think) OMOD's which I do not even know what they are, they are not installers either which makes it more difficult. And do these mods support the unofficial patches?

EDIT: does Wyre Bash pretty much cover what OBMM does and vise versa? (meaning I only need 1?)

No. Wrye Bash and OBMM both have features not available with the other. However, in your case, you could setup FCOM entirely with Wrye Bash because it has its own installer; however, that would require you to do even more reading. Just follow the instructions on the page linked in your first post, ignoring BOMM. It is not as long a process as you might think. I can shorten it for you slightly by saying that you do not have to move the Oblivion Mods folder, and you do not have to modify Bash's INI file. Skip those steps.

Edit: These are very different utilities.
Oblivion Mod Manager - http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/prep/obmm
Wrye Bash - http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/prep/wrye-bash

You should read these so you have some concept of what you are dealing with...
Intro to Modded Oblivion - http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/intro
OMOD Installation - http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/installmods/obmm-installation

So 14. 15. and 16. are not needed?

From those steps, do the following: 14.5, 14.6, 14.7, 15.7, 15.8

16 says it is optional...so skip it altogether.

Have you installed OBSE and its plugins?

Edit: I recommend reading that page, but if you still want to install FCOM, I suggest first setting that up on its own. If that is going to be your "starter" mod, you should start using it on its basic setup by itself. It requires practically every mod-using skill to install, so I guess one could think of its setup as a crash course into mod usage.

Now I am even more confused... thought I was good to go, can't I just uninstall everything and start fresh with a list of what to download in what order?

What is confusing, and why do you need to reinstall?

Edit: I am going to have to go soon, but now that you have all of those mod management utilities installed, you should be able to follow the FCOM installation guide just fine. Reference the related pages when you need extra help. That guide tells you what to download and the order in which the FCOM components need to be installed. Just stick with FCOM for now. If you do not want to install FCOM, you are free to move onto Downloading Mods and the steps after that. For a more extensive installation order model, see My BAIN Package List (under Lists.)

To lay it out flat, I want a mod but apparently to run that mod I need a script enabler but to run that I need OBMM or something and then I find myself clicking links to FCOM. I just need a list of plugins and other sorts to follow that will allow me to download all the mods I would like to download and enabling without having to worry anymore about them now working.

They will work. When you followed the instructions on that prep page, you installed OBMM. OBMM is good to go. Just follow the instructions. If you do not want to follow any FCOM instructions, you'll have to use different mods... FCOM is large and complex. It is the glue for a number of other large and complex mods as well, so there is only so much that the team can do to simplify the instructions. I've provided a guide to consolidate current instructions, and I do not know what else I can say on this point...

Edit: I have to go. I will check back later.

Thanks for everything, my main problem is the fact there are dead links, for example on http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/fcominstall.html the link for wyre bash is dead.. if this was resolved oblivion mod installing would be so much more easier?

Man, I am feeling your pain. I was there when I started to expand the vanilla, and wouldn't touch FCOM with a 10' pole. The guides are pretty good PROVIDED you know the lingo and how it fits together. Not everyone understands informatuion the same way.

I run Oblivion on Win7 64 bit. I turn of UAC so don't have any issues. I install everything to the default directories.

So let me give you my 2 cents worth to run FCOM.

Make sure you install the unofficial patches.

Get OBSE v18. http://obse.silverlock.org/
Get Wrye Bash v284. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22368
You will need the Wrye Python 02 file to install the programs that Wry Bash uses. Then download either the self installer or archive version for manual install.

Now, in my opinion, BAIN (part or Wrye Bash) is the way to go installing mods. But first you need the mods.

Now for FCOM, it is now a matter of patience. You would want to have the latest available files.
So these are the easy downloads:
Francesco's
http://www.elricm.com/nuke/html/mod_disclaimer.php?mod=3855 Francesco's leveled creatures mod - need this
http://games.on.net/file/13081/Francescos_Leveled_creatures-items_The_Elder_Scrolls_IV_Oblivion_Mod_v4.5 Need this, this is the BSA you will need

Oblivion Warcry
http://rapidshare.com/files/57753891/OWC_Patch_1.08b_1.085b.7z.html All you need is the patched esp file
For the BSA file (which replaces all the loose files) get it here http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LNG7LWO1
So all you need is the Oblivion warcry EV.esp and the BSA file.

OOO
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=3953
get the file OOO_133_Complete.7z (OMOD ready complete)
get the OOO_134_beta_5 Patch.7z file.

MMM
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MWEEEADE this is the BSA file you need
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17784 these are the esp and esm files

FCOM
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12249 this is the FCOM esp and esm files
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0IGOWXL4 this is the BSA file to replace all the meshes and textures folders in the above file.
http://www.4shared.com/file/144608444/c47efc89/ufcom.htmll this are updates for the original FCOM

Don't worry about any optional files right now, just get this working. Adding the other stuff will be cake once you get this working.

Make BAIN friendly archive files for these, which means create a folder and put the needed files in the folder and zip it. If you do not know what I mean ask.

Now, there are quote a few files in some of these and you do not need all of them. I will stop for now. If you have specific questions about any of these ask. I should be logged on for a while longer. There are no stupid questions.

So far I am at the python/wyre bash part, (following your instructions) do you want me to download BAIN after python or later?

Also can you rephrase "Make BAIN friendly archive files for these, which means create a folder and put the needed files in the folder and zip it. If you do not know what I mean ask." by chance?
Also with all the links, your pretty much saying download em and unzip/install em as they are to oblivion data folder?

BAIN is part of Wry Bash not separate download. Put it out of your mind for now. Download the Wrye Python 02 and run it. Take the defaults at installation. It will install like 4 or 5 things.
Then download Wrye Bash 284 (I would download the archive and install in Oblivion Manually).

Thanks, i assumed that but it was good to know for sure, I am at fran's step, I have not installed it yet but I am unsure if I should just extract/install to the data folder or have specific locations (this goes for all the mods)

Follow these instructions.
Run the installers. When you get the screen that has the oblivion directoy path, CHANGE IT to another directory (we just want the files) like c:\frans\oblivion\data

?Download and install Fran's 4.5b Main Package and go through the installation process (do NOT install any other component or file unless stated below):
?Shivering Isles Version (only if you have SI installed) YES
?Lyrondor's Combat Behavior (recommended) YES
?MOBS (highly recommended) YES

?hardcoe Loot (recommended) YES
?Living Economy NO
?'Optional Leveled Guards' (for the SI version) YES
?'Optional Chance of More Enemies' (for the SI version) YES

?'Optional Chance of Stronger Enemies' (required) YES
?'Optional Chance of Stronger Bosses' (required) YES
?'New Items Add-On' [requires the FCOM add-on FCOM_FrancescosItemsAddOn.esp]?Merge Optional Files (do NOT merge the files!) YES

?Cell Respawn Time (if you want to change this, do so in Wrye Bash) NO CHANGE
?Day Length Rescale (if you want to change this [I use a value of 12], do so in the console by typing the command set timescale to ) NO CHANGE
?Skill Progression Speed (use another mod like nGCD + Progress instead of this or check out this thread for other alternatives)
?Download and install Fran's 4.5b Add-On Package (or download from Internode) and select the following:

?'New Items Add-On'
?BSA File Registration NO - I will tell you later once we get the base files
?At this point, only these plugins from Fran's should be in your "Data" folder (together with 'FraNewItems.bsa'):
?Francesco's Leveled Creatures-Items Mod.esm
?Francesco's Optional New Items Add-On.esm
?Francesco's Optional Chance of Stronger Bosses.esp
?Francesco's Optional Chance of Stronger Enemies.esp
?Francesco's Optional Chance of More Enemies.esp (only if you have SI installed)
?Francesco's Optional Leveled Guards.esp (only if you have SI installed)

Once you have these items let me know.

Forgot, we will need the Frans USIP file (this replaces the unofficial shivering isles patch.esp)

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17621 download the one that read USIP_MOBS_1-4

I made a mistake, I have living economy and 10 days cell respawn, how do I revert? Also before we go on, I am using the links in the previous post right? Also what to do with the USIP_MOBS_1-4?

P.S can I just delete the frans folder I made previously (C:\frans\oblivion\data)
