FCOM?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:24 am

Ok, so i want to download and use FCOM for my oblivion experience. It looks cool and all, but theres one problem... why the hell do i need to follow like 20 steps and procedures to install one mod? I seriously can't install it becuase it doesnt make since to me what there asking me to download and plug in. I dont even know a direct link to download FCOM itself! Can someone give me all the link to a simple way to download FCOM? I mean seriously if i have to read 20 steps to download one mod its not worth getting jumbled up in. :brokencomputer:

Because it isn't one mod. It's a collection of mods. FCOM merely "glues" them together.

FCOM is four big overhauls each with a large degree of possible customizations, and on their own they naturally conflict with each other so you have to deal with that too, but you know it's much more than "just one mod."

As for how to install it I don't know, I just use OOO+MMM (two of the four mods in FCOM)

God. Well i guees ill spend my day trying to fgure out what to download and install. They give crappy "directions" i eman it says download MM (which needs MM unpdate 3.7 {which needs update Monster mod 335}) and its too many steps to download this stuff. I mean if your going to ask me to download patches and files at lest tell me in what order! :flamethrower:

Then... don't? And why post, if that's all you have to say/ask about it. Really.

But OK, perhaps more helpfully this time...

If you follow the steps, in order, to the letter, it will work. There are quite a few steps, yes. The reason is, it's combining up to four large overhauls, and then some, generally. That's an incredibly complex thing to be doing to Oblivion. Plus, there are many options for customisation, which while a good thing, further increases the complexity, naturally.

I hope that helps to clarify, if nothing else.

edit: Ninjaed! :ninja:

Also, it *is* spelled out "in what order" you should do things. Read, follow, enjoy. Or, by all means, like I said to begin with... don't.

I'll try a less grouchy/hungover version this time. :P

You could try http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/, for more advice and assistance. It's an extremely useful site, IMO, and many people have benefited from having a look through it. The FCOM section in particular might be of interest.

I think the wrye bash site is down right now?

I'm also doing an FCOM install right now and it seems to have become more complicated since last time I did it. Components have been updated and it is now a lot more reading. There's an UFCOM now and woah.
It's worth it though, at least to me.

EDIT: http://wrye.ufrealms.net/ is down for me

Modding Oblivion is generally unintuitive for even an experienced computer user. You are a novice, and yet you've chosen to install the most complicated amalgamation of mods that require utilities that are over your head (for now). If you are having this bad a time with it, then why not start with just one overhaul for now? That is, unless you make a conscious decision that it is worth it to endure some trial-and-error to get the full FCOM. If the latter is the case, then by all means, proceed... but please do what you can to limit the tantrums at the people who are giving you all this stuff for free and doing what they can to help you get it running. :P

I do wish you the best of luck with it, in either case. :foodndrink:

I understand your problem. Maybe it's an option to use the combination of 2 overhauls instead of using FCOM because it's easier to download and easier to install.

Use Francesco' Mod in combination with Martigen's Monster Mod(MMM)

or use

Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul(OOO) in combination with Martigen's Monster Mod(MMM)

Ehh ima cry before the end of this...

With your attitude, probably yes.

By whining how complicated it all is how much it svcks to read instructions and learn about required tools you are insulting everybody who got FCOM working, which is actually possible if you sit down tight and do your homework. It's definitely not novice friendly, so you probably are better off to start modding your game in a less ambitious way. But stop talking your crap.

I suggest you http://wryemusings.com/Ignored.html and then think over your approach...

Consider me a brother in arms. I'm Installing FCOM too and it's getting there.
I actually finished the install yesterday, but then I found out the backwards running is turned off. I can only walk backwards. I'm not even sure if FCOM did this, but I'll find out, it's what I've set out to do today. Yesterday I was about ready to give it all up.. But I'm 99% there I think.

If it is the first time you do FCOM, and it seems that complicated to you, then running only one overhaul is a great idea. You'll start adding mods yourself and you'll start using OBMM or BAIN more and you'll start to understand how it all fits together.

edit: For those who are curious.. I found what makes me run backwards slowly... found it in an OMOBS readme. In my past installs, I never used MOBS)

(Getting all these AHA-moments makes me feel awesomely smart!)

Go to http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17621

Get and install the esp called no MOBS run limit - yes it is OK to use with FCOM and yes you can merge it into bash.

Hoping that little known nexus page gets attention in the new frans thread. And that the new frans thread gets the face lift necessary to reduce threads like this.
