Fear and Loathing in Megaton

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 1:16 pm

The Plot
You get all types around Megaton, from the raiders of Springvale School to the down-and-out citizens of the town itself to even the occasional Vault 101 dweller who wanders outside the protection of the underground. So many different kinds of people, each trying to carve out a living in the hostile reality that is the Capital Wasteland

How do such diverse people manage to get along? Not very well, usually. But fate is a tricky thing. Sometimes the most unlikely people get pushed into situations together, and sometimes they even come out of it alive.

Hey, stranger things have happened.

The Rules (Really, you should read these.)
-Be respectful and courteous of other members.
-Obviously, not everyone will be online 24/7, so try not to move the thread too fast. Give others some time to catch up!
-Employ at least a basic grasp of grammar skills. Please.
-Try to make a balanced character. IE, no level 20 mangods who carry Firelances.
-NPCs can be used and mentioned, but try to keep them in character.
-Have fun!

Characters

Kansas Dalton (Aristo)
Dante (Lycan 01)

My Character:
Name: Kansas Dalton
Age: 21
Appearance: A very tan young woman of average height and weight. Her dirty blonde hair is cut short and shaggy, falling just past her chin. Her almond-shaped eyes are a cool steel grey. Her skin is usually covered in dust and grime, as well as a trail of freckles across her nose and cheeks. She typically wears a Merc Troublemaker Outfit and a black bandana tied around her neck.
Personality: Highly independent and aloof. Though she'll usually stop to help a weaker Wastelander out of a tight situation, she tends to leave them on their own afterward. She's got a sharp tongue on her and a taste for good whiskey (though she'll drink about anything). The only person she really seems to warm up to is Gob of Moriarty's Saloon, though that could just be because he supplies her with cheap booze.
Karma: Good
Hometown: Megaton
Weapon: Combat Knife
Major Skills: Melee Weapons, Explosives, Speech

Name: Dante
Age: 23
Appearance: Long blonde pony-tail, green eyes, average features (not handsome, but not ugly), crooked smirk, 5'9", somewhat skinny.
Clothing: Black boots, old jeans, dingy white t-shirt, Kevlar vest, battered brown leather jacket, sunglasses.
Personality: Aloof, relaxed, contemplative, sly, charismatic.
Karma: Moderately Good
Hometown: Rivet City
Weapon: 10mm Pistol
Major Skills: Speech, Small Guns, Repair

Description: Dante is an interesting person to come across in the Wastelands. His stoic outlook on life allows him to avoid the depression that destroys many of his fellow Wastelanders, and he has a knack for poetry. He's a bit of a silver-tongued rogue, often arguing his way out of trouble and into good fortune. He gets by in life by entertaining folks with his poetry, doing favors and odd jobs, and if worse comes to worse, scavenging in the wastes, which never seems to lack a random dead body to loot. Dante is in Megaton because he feels like it... thats his only excuse for just about everything, really.

Is this good? :)

((Looks great! I'll make a post to start us off.))

The blazing sun beat down on Kansas Dalton's back as she made her way across the rocky landscape outside of Megaton. She moved quickly and purposefully, her hand at her knife and her eyes shifting about as she moved along. She halted suddenly as she caught sight of something to her left, her body tensing as she peered forward at a large iguana sunning itself on a rock. She drew her knife and slowly approached it from behind, making just the faintest of noises against the rocky ground. Then just as suddenly, she leaped forward and grabbed the iguana by the neck with one hand, roughly slitting its throat with the other. The lizard thrashed around for a moment, then jerked and lay still.

Satisfied, Kansas picked it up by the tail and slung it over her shoulder. Well, there's dinner, she thought. And with enough salt, she might not even taste the radiation. She paused for a moment, glancing back at Megaton, then forward to the ghost town of Springvale. She was short on caps at the moment. Maybe she could find something worth scavenging and get enough for a drink or two.

Here goes nothing, she thought, putting away her knife and continuing on to Springvale with her dinner slung over her back.

Name: Ryan McLean
Age: Thirty Two
Appearance: Ryan stands at roughly six foot and a half. This combined with his broad shoulders and muscular appearance make him a rather daunting figure to look at. His huge frame is covered by a black jumpsuit which bore various bits of spiked metal (Metal Armour). His head, much like the rest of his body was large and thick, he had no hair on his head either and his eyes were fairly close together.
Personality: Despite his appearance, Ryan was a complete and utter softy (oh, how cliche?). This influenced his actions heavily, although he wasn't soft enough not to dispatch a Raider or a Yao Gaoi, he would often try and knock them out, rather than kill them out right. He always stuck up for his friends, no matter what they've done to him. Ryan is also very trustworthy.
Karma: Very Good
Hometown: Springvale
Weapon: Sledgehammer, Butcher's Knife
Major Skills: Melee Weapons, Unarmed, Big Guns (Being the big, dumb character he is, no skills other than combat apply to him. "Door in way. USE FATMAN.")

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!" Dante screamed, ducking beneath the hail of gunfire following him across the Wasteland. A pair of raiders had decided to make sport of him, and he didn't stand a chance against two guys with assault rifles. But so far, zig-zagging across the rocky terrain and putting random things like dead trees and old stones between him and them had saved him a lot of blood and cost them a lot of ammo. But he didn't know how much longer he could keep this up. Megaton couldn't have been too far away, but he doubted it was within a mile... and he also doubted he could keep running that much farther.

A sudden shriek of terror erupted from behind him. Dante glanced over his shoulder, and his eyes went wide in horror. A Yao-Gaoi had decided to join the fun, and he had looked back just in time to see it wrench the head of one raider free from his shoulders with its massive jaws. The other raider screamed and threw his weapon at the beast, and then turned to chase after Dante. "Wait for meeeee!!" the man screamed, hoping the mutated bear would stay behind to eat his comrade. Instead, it decided to follow the fresher meats, and it quickly began to chase after the raider and Dante.

"YOU svck!!!" Dante screamed at the man behind him, who was quickly catching up. The Yao-Gaoi was catching up too, and at a much quicker pace. A sudden thought crossed Dante's mind. "Hey wait! I don't have to outrun the monster!"

"You mean you have some way to stop it?!" the raider yelled from behind him.

"Nope!" Dante grinned. "i just have to outrun YOU!!" In one quick motion, he drew his 10mm pistol from his shoulder holster, held the gun over his shoulder, and fired a few unaimed shots. He heard an agonized howl from the raider, followed by a dusty thud as the man hit the ground. Not more than two seconds later, a panick-stricken scream followed, although it was quickly cut off by a loud roar and a sickening crunch. Dante didn't stop to look back. He just kept on running, determined to make it to Megaton before something else tried to kill him.

Ryan wanders towards Megaton. The huge hulking figure had his old, worn sledgehammer held over one shoulder and a Mole Rat over the other. "Mhm. Mole Rat meat tasty." The large fellow thinks to himself as he climbs a rocky outcrop. Ahead of him, in the far distance he saw the large, metal boundaries of Megaton, a city he'd grown up near. Sadly, he had never been able to live there, due to the sortage of housing. From his hilltop vantage spot, he spied a man running at a great pace not far infront of him. Ryan called out to him, "Hello there!" His large, booming voice ringing out across the irradiated planes. He then made his way down the hill and towards the figure, smiling as he jogged towards him.

Hearing a voice in the distance, Dante froze and spun about, scanning the horizon for whoever had spoken. Shielding his eyes, he squinted against the harsh sunlight to see what was around him. He noticed a figure atop a rocky hillface nearby, and fear began to creep into his body. That fear quickly became horror as he saw how brutish the sun-glared figure was... and that it was weilding a sledgehammer.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!" Dante screamed as he turned and began to run again, forgetting how tired he was and only caring about getting to safety. "SUPERMUTANT!!! AAAAAAHH!!!!"

Ryan looked around, looking around for the Super-Mutant. "Where?! Where?!" He kept yelling, running after the figure infront of him, his large, powerful legs carrying him quite quickly. "Friend. Where Super-Mutant?! It ok, Ryan protect you!" Sadly, Ryan hadn't realised that the man had noticed his large figure and mistaken him for a Mutie. He kept running, calling out reassurance that'd he protect him.

Here's my character sheet... sorry if you wanted me to PM it I just assumed not. :)

Name: Alexander Benjamin, Mr. Benjamin or as the kids call him Benny.
Age: 52
Appearance: About 6', medium built, slicked back and well kept hair, black suit and a red tie.
Personality: VERY serious doesn't like fooling around AT ALL. Loves kids. Will help you but, you will owe him. He is all business except around kids. And he HATES more than anything, his walks being interrupted.
Karma: Good but mistaken for evil.
Hometown: Megaton
Weapon: .44 Revolver that is very well kept but rarely used and a Chinese Sword.
Major Skills: Melee, Small Guns and Speech.

(Here is my intro if it is fine, if not I will get rid of it :D)

Intro: Alexander was taking a nice quite relaxing walk around Megaton one of the few he ever gets to take. When suddenly it was interrupted by a man screaming about a Super Mutant and a big man behind him yelling "I'll save you!!". Alexander sighed he started walking towards the man that was screaming and punched him in the stomach as hard as he could. But because the man was running it knocked Alexander off balance a bit and he stumbled a step or two. Once the big guy caught up Alexander looked at him and said, "Hey, big guy. Carry him into town. And be quite." Alexander resumed his walk... Hmm... my finger's broken.... I think I'm getting to old for this....

OOC: Sorry for the violence :( just getting you into town XD

OOC: Um... What? Okay, two things. Actually, 3. First of all, starting out with a .44 AND a chinese sword? Didn't he say to start out only with simple stuff? :P Second, why'd you go and ruin our fun? I was hoping to keep that joke up for a few more posts... And third, its improper RP etiquite to just walk up and automatically knock out another player. You should state your action and what you hope to achieve, and then wait for their reaction. If you'd have tried to punch me and said you wanted to knock me out, I probably would have gone with it. But in this case, I'm going to wait for the Host's ruling on the matter before I post my reply.

Hopefully we can resolve this manner peacefully, and my character won't have to spread satirical poetry about you all over the Wasteland. :P

Walter walked outside of his house to observe the commotion he heard.
"What the hell is that?" he thought.

Walter ran over to the area where the commotion was. [censored], he thought, Forgot my 10mm in the house, guess I'll try to use my machete. Walter ran over to the area where it was going down, wielding his machete. He knew he couldn't do much, but intimidation had worked before, and with his luck it just might happen again.

((Gah. Okay, hold on a sec. I'd really appreciate it if people actually waited for me to approve them before posting. It makes things easier on me when I don't have as many posts to wade through.

On that note, most of you are good. But ForceMunkee, there's no way you can start out with a .44 Magnum. Sorry, it just unbalances the game. He can have the Chinese sword, but no powerful guns.

I'll try to actually make a roleplay post before class tonight. We'll see. :P))

((Bugger. That was a busy couple of days. Let's see if we can get this show back on the road.))

"What the..." Kansas perked up as she heard a commotion from some ways off. Raiders? She crept closer, listening and trying to make out what she could. Her eyes widened as she distinctly heard the phrase "super mutant." A super mutant? Christ! What the hell is a super mutant doing on this side of the river? Part of the reason--heck, almost ALL of the reason she liked living in Megaton was that Super Mutants rarely, if ever came around. Now there seemed to be one right at her doorstep!

Why did I have to sell my last frag grenade for a drink? Kansas moaned, cursing herself. She was hardly equipped to take on one of the yellow horrors, but maybe she could lead it back to Megaton. Yeah, then Deputy Weld could vaporize it! Worth a shot, she thought, leaping up and rushing toward the fray.

(( Stay un-KOed, Lycan. ))

Ryan's large, powerful tree-trunk legs carried him swiftly towards the screaming man. Despite his size, the lad had amazing stamina, that coupled with his abnormal stride length allowed him to beat most people in a sprint. "Wait! Ryan no Super-Mutant! Me no mutant, Human!" He called out, waving his arms over his head in a frenzied fashion before noticing the girl in the distance. "Human! Human!" He called out, his arms flapping around like a bird of sorts...

Name: Ex-Paladin Jebediah "Jeb" Wintergreen

Age: 69

Appearance: A large, old man, the muscles of his youth having atrophied into hanging flesh and beer gut. A magnificent, grey, bushy mustache stretches straight from his upper lip to his sideburns, with no beard underneath. His hair is thinned and straggly, but still mostly there. He usually wears a simple Wasteland Settler's outfit with no headgear, but sometimes dons an outdated, scratched up and dirty suit of Power Armor

Personality: Your typical old man, slightly out of touch with the world. He is genial and nice to most everyone, save a select few. He had been in the Brotherhood of Steel, Elder Lyon's division, for many years. However, their devout hatred of Super Mutants had a profound effect on him, and he began to hate anything that was, well...different. He was kicked out of the Brotherhood of Steel after he killed a hostage that they were trying to rescue from the Super Mutant stronghold.

Karma: Neutral

Hometown: Megaton

Weapon: Sledgehammer

Major Skills: Melee Weapons, Repair, and Explosives

Name: Stanley Heinz
Age: 23
Appearance: Botu 5'7, Dark Brown hair, bluish/greenish eyes
Personality: Friendly, doesnt go into violence unless he must, tries to find a peaceful solution for everything
Karma: Good
Hometown: Raider settlement, Southwest of Tenpenny Tower
Weapon: Combat Knife, .32 Pistol(With no ammo)
Major Skills: Explosives, Repair, Science

Backround: Although he was born and raised by raiders, he never enjoyed the violence of the life. He decided to work as their techie(because he didnt have to hurt anyone)
His jobs consisted of creating explosives for the Raiders and keeping their equipment in good shape. Eventaully he left at the age of 22 and took along a Mister Gutsy he repaired from a critical cindition which he lovingly named, Mr. Jenkins(Who also serves as a personal bodyguard). He has been adventuring the wastes ever since

IC: Stanley walked towards the structure he saw since the day before, it was HUGE! He had never seen anything like it(except for the visit to Evergreen Mills he made when he was 11)
As he approached he saw a strange sight, an incredibly large man chasing after a much smaller man, then the large man changed his course and started heading towards some girl.
Mabye this place isnt so great afterall... He hought to himself as he stood a little way off in the distance and watched staying near Mr. Jenkins just incase these people were hostile

(Sorry I've been gone, I had the flu. Anyway, un-KOed I shall stay! :D)

Dante could hear the deep throaty exclaimations of the super mutant echoing in his ears. It was claiming to be human... What a dirty trick! Clearly with a manner of speaking such as that, it had to be a monster! Then he had a thought. Super mutants would sooner yell insults than try to make nice with their victims. If this was a super mutant, it wasn't the normal variety... and maybe it was worth taking a second glance at.

Dante then made a mistake. He stopped running in order to look behind himself, not realizing that large men don't stop as quickly as scrawny guys like him.

Name: Ben Anderson

Age: 24

Appearance: Ben is a man of an average, but lean physical build. Standing at 5'11 and weighing about 165 lbs, his athletic and youthful capabilities are eminent in his face and stature. The male Caucasian possesses a pallid skin tone that starkly contrasts with his dark brown eyes and brown, clean cut hair. His face is pretty plain; he is handsome, but nothing above the mundane. His garments consist of the traditional Vault 101 garbs, a blue jumpsuit with the number 101 printed across the back of the shirt in a bold, white color.

Personality: Ben possesses a youthful recklessness and naivety common in young men, and this quality tends to spark up in times of hardship and turmoil; it is both a strength and a weakness. His aggressiveness is second to his good nature and kindness he shows when dealing with both strangers and friends alike. He has an inquisitive, questioning nature, allowing his adept perception to anolyze everything around him.

Karma: Good

Hometown: Vault 101

Weapon: 10mm Handgun, Pip-Boy 3000

Major Skills: Melee, Melee Weapons, Small Guns

I can join, right?

Of course... Right?

Ehh, I'll give it a go. I'm pretty new, so don't expect me to know... Stuff.

Anyway, enough of that.

Name: Blake Gentenson
Age: 22
Appearance: Blake is an African American, Dark haired type of guy. His face looks smooth, with a Sarge for a hairstyle and a rough beard. His skin is unusually clean, likely thanks to hygene supplies in his dad's underground warehouse. Blake, as a knight of the BoS, wears a suit of T-4x power armor. He usually wears the power helmet in combat only, however.

Personality: Blake spent a long journey from Anchorage to DC, which has made him tough. But like all others, his soft spot showed. Blake will help without question, regardless of the reward. (He usually never asks for one).

Karma: Very Good

Hometown: The Citadel

Weapon: Blake left most of his powerful weapons back at the citadel. He is now carrying a 10mm pistol.

Major Skills: Sneak, Speech, Lockpick
-------------------------------------------------------------

Blake looked around Megaton. It was a small, peaceful community. He already met a few people, but disliked the old man known as Nathan. He thought the Enclave propaganda really got to the poor old coot.

Blake felt a bit uncomfortable without the gauss rifle he found in his dad's warehouse, but he was also sure that the scribes could maintain and study it for a good long time.

A laser rifle would do good for now I suppose. He thought, staring at the pathetic pistol he was holstering. Megaton looked interesting. He supposed he would stay there.

Stanley watched the huge man and the man running get closer, then out of the corner of his eyes Mr. Jenkins had his laser rifle up and ready to fire.
"Hostile target located. 72% chance of critical wounding. Shall I take the shot sir?"
"No, no not yet, I dont think the larger one means any harm Jenkins, lets wait a few seconds."

Ben stared at the body of his lifeless comrade, coming to the cold realization of the Capital Wasteland's true nature. Madrik, his old Vault friend, had helped him escape from the underground facility, only to be shot and killed on the second day as they scavenged for food and water. The sun was beating down on the young man as he lifted himself of the ground, dusting himself off. Suddenly, rapid footsteps and breathing became eminent to the Vault wanderer as he turned, only to be met with a raider about to bludgeon Ben in the face with a baseball bat.

He fell to the ground, dodging the swing but paralyzed in fear. He put his forearms up to protect his face as the baseball bat came down towards him. An audible thump was heard as the wooden tool kinetically connected, cracking in two. Ben grit his teeth as the raider, dressed in metal scraps to form some semblance of armor, mounted on top of the Vault wanderer, punching him several times in the face. While the raider was doing this, Ben's natural survival instincts kicked in, and he slipped the 10mm pistol out from it's holster and pressed it into his attacker's stomach, pulling the trigger several times.

The raider vibrated with each shot, his eyes widening as he let out a whimper. Ben shoved the dead man off of him, breathing rapidly and frantically. Adrenaline caused his hands to shake, and he was literally paralyzed.

How could I do such a thing?

Was I wrong?

It was self defense!
, he thought, trying to justify his actions.

As Blake decided that he would visit later with a more powerful weapon, thinking along the lines of assault rifle, laser rifle, shotgun, or something similar. He stared back at the bomb, and the man worshipping it as if he actually believed that its 'coming' would save everyone. Blake only thought in the mind of the man that this coming would be its detonation, something that would definantly not be good. Looking forward to the gate, he yelled for the gaurd, who went by Stockholm, to have the doors split up. The large, fragile doors retracted into the dull brown walls, and Blake instantly, but faintly eyed a person with a pistol and some raiders, a few, if not all of them were dead.

He didn't see it clearly, as the bright sun blinded him for a moment. Ignoring it, he went to the left, on the way to the Citadel. Sigh... The wasteland. I liked it back when I was traveling through the Canadian states, that one town never got a nuke shoved up the city hall. Trees. Grass. Maybe I'll be better off if I returned to Alaska. He staggered for a moment. There were three figures, donning some sort of power armor. They turned out only to be a stubborn group of Outcasts, looking for technology. They ignored him, and he did the same. Looking back at the town, he felt something that needed doing. Something he couldn't grasp.

A bloatfly was buzzing around, its sharp stinger filled with harmful, necromorphic venom. Its head imploded, then exploded milliseconds later. A good firm hole lay in the body. Blake approached the rotting corpse, and shot it again three times more.

"Damn bugs." he said to himself.
