#1 Fear for Skyrim?

Post » Wed Jul 20, 2011 1:33 am

A lot were disappointed by Oblivion, which is something people who got into the series since that game can't understand. We think of all that is missing, but those who came to play Morrowind after Oblivion think it's outdated and not as polished as Oblivion, they're just used to something more accessible and polished and pretty, rather than something more complex and deeper, more satisfying in the end.

No offense here, but you seem to be insisting that your determinaton of what constitues satisfaction in a game is superior, which is exactly the arrogance that you have criticized the other poster for.

My biggest fear is not being able to scale up the graphics on PC. I'm sure it'll have sliders and it might look a LITTLE better than consoles, but somehow I get the feeling that it won't look that great, even maxed out on a high end PC. Which is a shame because nowadays there are lots of sandbox games with borderline photorealistic graphics.

My second biggest fear is the AI. The scenario in my first sig pic worries me no end. (scenario - bandits are talking, one gets shot, the other just draws his sword and stares at a wall until he's killed also)

My number 1 fear of Skyrim is this forum. So much bashing, negativity, spoil-bratness, idioticy, arrogance and ignorance it's enough to put the developers to shame and especially fans like me. Skyrim is gonna be bigger and better than 90% of the games out right now and it's gonna be awesome and epic, yet nobody likes to say it is.

Many forums for games are like this, even when the game wins tons of awards and is highly praised from fans and critics outside of the forum. Hell we've already seen this from after E3, other forums glow giddy when you mention Skyrim...and the press has given it numerous awards basically naming it the best upcomming RPG from E3, and nearly the top game only beaten by Bioshock Infinite.

Don't give the forums much weight.

No free roam after main quest, you'd think Bethesda being the king of open world and all, that would never happen, but then look at Fallout 3... You have to buy DLC to unlock free roaming, its pretty stupid you have to pay to unlock the game.

There will most certainly be free roam after the main quest... It's an Elder Scrolls game, not Fallout... Do you know how many times people compare the two? They should never even be in the same room together...

I worry about being able to enter every building. Please let me go inside all buildings in the game.

Definitely agree with this.

Even if there's nothing of interest inside the building, I still want to be able to go in. Having a load of empty shell / decorative buildings you cannot enter really makes a gameworld feel artificial.

They seem pretty sure of the changes they've made and have laughed off the dumbing down remarks... so that leaves two options. They can carry on making the game, not pay any attention to the negativity, and hope people are pleasantly surprised upon release; or, if they're so confident that the concerns are laughable, they can put a lot of the negativity to rest by reassuring fans once and for all - perhaps by explaining in detail how certain features of the game work (like the new stats / perk system).

I've never seen any developer explain in detail how a system or mechanic is going to work pre-release. That's half the fun in playing the game is finding out how things all work together.

I do wish the developers would come and laugh at/mock the doomsayers more often though. That would be priceless.

My biggest fear for me is the leveling situation. I don't remember if it was confirmed or not, but maybe the AI in most areas can stay a level behind and some always stay a level head or something. And then just make areas where they are a few levels lower/higher.

Also the frame rate / lag issues that I get in Oblivion and I don't know why ha.

Level scaling is no more a concern, there will be low level areas and high level areas, no more that Oblivion absurdity.

you do realize it means you cant block with a 1 handed weapon because each of your characters hands are controled by a different button. but sill bethesda have not said you cant block with a one handed weapon this is just a concern people have for the game.
plus this is an elder scroplls game if you will not play one of the greatest games o ever exist because you get over dramaic about little meanigless [censored] thatyour massive flaw not the games. Never and i mean never call a TES game [censored] or I willfind you and carefully remove youreye without damaging the optic nerve so you can watch yourself die while straggle you. [censored]!

So in an adventure action RPG, you can't block unless you play a specific character with a shield? This unforgivable. This is the crap that WILL ruin this game. And if this is caused by the two handed system, then the two handed system is a steaming pile of crap.

This would make this game total crap. There is no excuse, I will not play it. Especially when I already have a solution to this problem. Firstly, you have an active blocking system if you have a weapon without a shield. For a block, you have to meet an opponent's strike with one of your own. Based on your stats, you have a window of when you can block, and how much damage would be absorbed. If this isn't balanced enough, allow more damage to seep through your block, and cause more damage to be done to the weapon itself. You could even have a random chance of the weapon breaking. BUT NOT BEING ABLE TO BLOCK AT ALL IS JUST LAZY [censored] GAME DEVELOPMENT, AND IT IS NOT ANYTHING THAT WE SHOULD PUT UP WITH IN A DAMN ELDER SCROLLS GAME!

Also your spelling, grammar, and vocabulary are crap.

That the games mechanics and features are stale and meaningless in the big picture, and are only put in "for the show" ("Hey, we have all these cool new and old features added!", "Nice, but why don't they have any real impact on the gameplay?").

The only thing I'm a little concerned about is getting caught in a Dragon train, with back to back dragons coming to kill me.

It would be awesome, yet scary at the same time.

My biggest fear for Skyrim is the radiant AI not living up to it's expectations. I still have the feeling I'm going to see people I have spoken to frequent still talk to me like I'm a stranger and see conversations such as:
Guard: Good day.
Man: I hear a dragonborn is here to save all of us
Guard: Farewell.

-.-

I hope these aspects of the game are put through very well. We've only seen about 10 seconds or so of dialogue which looked great but that's all we've seen.

My fear: Dragons will be the new Oblivion gates. I can hear myself now... "Oh, god, not another dragon."

This too.

I wish they would as well, I really do... because that would help reassure me that a lot of the fears are either extremely over-exaggerated or wrong. I want them to come across really confident about their game and to brush the dumbing down suggestions aside by claiming that Skyrim will offer the deepest and most hardcoe RPG experience of any TES game yet.

The game will get really boring after a week like Oblivion (Todd said that the wonder of exploration is back for Skyrim but still concerned regardless).

I have others but that's my #1

This entire topic boils down to this.....

"My biggest fear is the game will svck"

"My biggest fear is I won't be able to play it! LOLZ"

The truth of the matter is, I only fear if they lied to us and all these cools things aren't there or as cool as they say. Simple, right? Also, this noob/veteran war kind of needs to end. I get it, noobs don't have experience so they have no idea of what they might be missing and inversely vets are spoiled brats who whine over every little thing they get deprived of. Get over it! I'm not saying don't give your criticism, but just go easy guys. In the end it's all for fun! No one needs your negativity, especially considering just about all of us are "young male who gets great joy from certain thing and loses their spaghettios over it" of the elder scrolls series to some extent, why else would you be here on their official forums? Let's get over ourselves shall we? For the game?

that's my new fear. scaling in Oblivion destroyed everything!

Oh hey, look, I'm fighting bandits with Glass armor and an army of Dremora generals!

Not to mention that if you're not a power gamer, the game gets really really hard as you level. YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE MORE POWERFUL WHEN YOU GAIN LEVELS.

Good thing this isn't a concern, since they've already said it won't work like in Oblivion. (Fallout 3 style - so Bandits will have a max level & equipment they can have, etc. Plus set level ranges for dungeons, etc).

Sooo, you're afraid that the devs will throw a fit in response to criticism? Wow. That's dumb.

There's a difference between "criticism" and the tsunami of "OMG DUMBED DOWN! Horrible! Not an RPG! Made for casuals/six year olds/brain dead monkeys! Worst. Game. Ever." that comes after any piece of info is released.

I'd like it just for pure entertainment value, but in the end it wouldn't do any good. The complainers don't take the devs at their word now, they won't when they are being condescending either. They would just respond with "...my complaints are like seriously serious and if you don't listen to me the game will be the ruinedez, stop laughing at me....". /shrug

The devs don't gain anything by coming here to the forum and addressing concerns, they either get called liars or have their words picked apart by a pack of vultures. I don't blame them at all for not interacting with the community more, the community obviously isn't mature enough to handle it, just take the last Q&A for example and the colossal amount of whining and doom saying that occurred for a week after.
