a fear

Post » Sun Jul 04, 2010 5:22 am

Been a good while since Ive been on this forum, not because of lack of interest i check from time to time to see if theres been anymore releasemants of new or media of the game. From now I think their done with the teasers until the game comes out. Which leads me into fear, I have reserved this game and have it already paid for, but I am at a point of thought whether this will be a game I play for a week and then trade back in because I didnt think it lived up to the hype, or will i trade it back in because of a lack of a community on the game... that its community could not uphold itself alone. Im wondering will this game develope its own world where legends are built and gossip is rounded because of the competition implemented into the online play. Lately in the last few years I have been very upset with the gaming world, I have bought many games and said that was a waste because of the game was just flawed, it seems I have not have a real competitive online experience since counterstrike, rainbow six 3 and blackarrow, halo 1, halo 2, Gears of war 1.

At this very point of my life I have resorted to picking away and a few campaignsn (gta4, RDR,) every now and then and playing a little bit of fifa 11, ncaa, and forza. Sadly kinna gets dulled out. and i think to myself maybe it is myself maturing and transforming into a different type of gamer. Seems lately the so called competitive games are not at all too me... either they have no community for you to enjoy them.. or their too easy to enjoy because of no challenge, Operation flashpoint should have never had bots in it.... should have made it a 8v8 pvp game, COD feels like an arcade shooter to me... i can go 30-3 on my first game in 3 months, to me that is just a poor game if its that easy. Halo has added so much to itself that it basically is not the same game, there is no community and it just seems as if everyone is a mindless sheep that only plays matchmaking which i believe is probly the most horrible thing created, why dont games bring back server browsing like the old days : (,,,, last time halo had a community seemed like h2. It has strayed from its nature of being a very basic game. and the games i love dearly seems as if they will never be created again rainbow six 3 and counterstrike,,,.... im very in love with a tactical shooter, i believe they are the best.

So my fear is.... how will this game do. Will it kill itself, will its community uphold, will the customization be too much and be a distraction. will the classes in this game limit its attractiveness to your every day gamer. I know plenty of gamers that just did not get their grits off to team fortress and this game does follow the same gameplay path of teamfortress in similiarities. I love everything I have seen in this game, but not everyone i have realized thinks like me and has the same taste.

There are a few things i have thought of that if anyone knows could they answer them,,..

  • will there be server browsing?
  • are tattoos a set to a certain scheme, or can you put any tattoo anywhere from the video i saw long ago.. it seems as if their a scheme : (
  • this game looks alot like a spray game, the way guns ive seen shoot are more about aim for the upper torso/head and holding the triggers, seems as if theres no worries on the recoil, are all the guns similiar in that manner?
  • the lean function is great and i love the idea of it... but is there a way to also move while you lean to adjust your player on the corner in the case of leaning out too far, or do you just automatically pop out of the lean when you move the left thumbstick?

I think Brink has what it takes to be a sleeper hit, if not for the movement and strategy based gameplay alone. Personally, I plan on showing it to all of my friends after release. Obviously, no one can really say how it will fare, but i have yet to show it to anyone that didn't think it looked worth a try at the very least. On to your list:

PC is sure to have sever browsing, since its all dedicated servers, the two consoles may or may not.

Tattoos don't look like you can change much about them, and once you have one, you cant remove or change it.

SD is trying to balance spraying with aiming. Close range, it will be completely practical for pretty much any weapon, further away, someone using ADS will have the edge. You can argue back and forth about what the balance should be, or if spraying should even be practical, but SD has made their choice.

I have heard very little info on the lean function, other than them showing that its there. Specific details like that are hard to find when most of the game remains a mystery.

do you know anything on weapons fire rates and what not... like semi, full, and burst fires? ive never been much of a fan of burst fire weapons. I think all weapons should be full auto and a play must learn to control their trigger finger in order to get slick fine shots fired.

and the lean function i love, i think its a great idea that they put it in, i just think its gunna be really risky if they make it so your just planted where you are when you lean. But its gunna make the game very Focking tactical no matter what. I was just asking about being able to move while being leaned cause in rainbowsix3 you could do that. It helped out very much because you were about to adjust yourself on the corner of the wall your were covered by when necessary

what you gettin the game for man, I have mine reserved for xbox but im also wanting to get it for pc also maybe, for some reason i think the game may have more success on pc, it looks more like a pc game and im curious if its goin to play better as a pc game

I'm pretty sure all the weapons are full auto (save for the ones that are semi-auto). Pistols and short rifles are the obvious semi-auto guns, one of the assault rifles is based on the m-14, so it may be single shot as well. The heavy shotgun is based on a hi-cap semi-auto shotgun, but for all we know, they could have made it an auto-shotty.

I'm getting it for PC, as I don't own any of the current gen consoles. Even if I had one though, I like playing FPS on PC more.

They said they would have auto-pistols available.

I should think that people would figure out that anything called a "machine pistol" is in fact fully auto. But you're right, I worded it poorly.

All weapons should have a toggle.
I just hate that forced full-auto bullcrap. Rainbow Six was great. I could go semi-auto and land 90% of my shots easily. Didn't even have to reload every [censored] second because I never lost count of my remaining ammo.

I'm guessing the community will die out eventually, but it looks like it won't be a massive selling game. I'm suspecting it will be like Bad Company 1 pretty much. A game that (I thought) was good which had a community of top players that all knew each other. While some relations were grudges and others were friendships it was always fun.

Couldn't agree more. Once Gears 3, RAGE, and BFBC3 come out it's a wrap for BRINK in terms of a major community. I'm personally only getting BRINK to kill time until RAGE comes out

BFBC3 hasn't really even been talked of yet. I think you're referring for Battlefield 3...

Now that you say it, I too fear for the game.. The guns, what will happen if the recoil is zero on almost all of them, and that alot of weapons do exactly the same? (except shooting), it's just in the beta (or what phase it is in now), but last we saw stats on guns, all the SMGs for example had exactly the same stats, not even a mm different. If this is what, then the game will probably fall, but maintain a low populated community, some people will always play, so one should eventually find games, (See Gears of War 1)

Everything will probably be alright, but still one side of me says something will be horribly wrong, and the game will fall, while the other side says it will be a really good game I will enjoy the [censored] out of, and will be able to come back to even after a year of not playing it, and still enjoy it.

Fear, it's in all of us, don't lie, you can feel it.

Don't judge me :cryvaultboy:

The stats you saw were from an alpha build, before they even started balancing, which is done in beta. The weapons were given stock values to make the game playable. Even the minigun was an SMG with a huge magazine at that point, as far as stats were concerned.

If the guns all had the same stats, they would be skins, not different weapons. Like how some of the pre-order packs offer a different skin for two of the SMGs.

Eh, what?

If you refer to the MP7 and that Revolver - I think those are unique weapons.

If you refer to the Carb-9 skins - those aren't skins but paintjobs.

Tomacco?

It's really something different - wether you get a simple paintjob (texture) or a different looking gun (model) or an entirely different gun (stats).

Just using their wording. As far as programming is concerned, there isn't much difference between "skin" and "paintjob" that I'm aware of.

Exclusive UAC (Security) and Cacodemon (Resistance) customized skins for the Bulpdaun SMG

Exclusive Vault 101 (Security) and Fallout New Vegas Vault Boy (Resistance) customized skins for the CARB-9 SMG

I wasn't talking about the completely new guns. You were arguing/saying that Shadow saying SKINs was wrong... It's not.
Texture mapping also known as Skinning. So Skins and Paintjob textures, same thing.

EDIT: Ahhhh too slow lol shadow beat me too it

im just hoping this doesnt turn into something similiar to like shadowrun or perfect dark z, redfaction,,.... games that all had plenty of potential but in my opinion its because of the gamer of today they were destined to fail. For some reason the gamer of today is derived toward run and gun mindlessly like a sheep
