Feature Request: Very Little Clutter in Skyrim

I definitely agree with you on the weaponry front. Tools and heavy objects should be available for use as weapons.

Slightly off topic, but it is a small thing. Beer everywhere, and mead and brandy and vintage wine for the taking, but have they not heard of a pint of Beamish or Guinness. Please put bottles of stout or porter in. It would make the world a better place in which to go to the inn after killing lots of things with axes.

I agree aswell, not that they would be very useful.

for your ideas of use for the skull and bones, i think there should be a spell if necromancy is in the game and collect bones and a skull to create a permanent undead minion that can be commanded, obviously not off the bat it would be a very useful spell that you shouldnt be able to obtain untill you were a high level and master of conjuration, but that would be a perfect use to old bones, other than lair and home decoration, and i really went all out with that, having skulls going up and down my stairwell and so on, but your idea of clutter usefulness is definately a very good idea

I definitely do not want them to get rid of all the clutter.

It would be nice if they gave all the useless and valueless clutter either a profound use or a value (other than 0) though.

I think it's a good idea - at the very least it should have some worth or use (even if it's not that much at all).

Disagree. I like lots of clutter. Lots. When my fireball explodes, I want flowerpots and pewter cups in every direction.

I'd like to see clutter flung as the result of a spell to have a claymore-mine-like effect and do lots of damage. I'd intentionally aim fireballs at cluttered tables near my target.

I agree that some clutter needs a purpose. And yes, everything should have value... especially that rare artifact that belongs to a quest should have value(as well as the ability to drop quest items, different topic though) The type of random clutter you find should be relative to the type of area you're in(dungeon, house, cave, etc)

I do not agree that calipers would be a weak stabbing weapon. They may have looked like you could stab someone with them, but they're a measuring tool. Shears maybe :P

good ideas OP.. I especially like the fire/kindling stuff.

what bothered me in obliv that the camps I stopped in always belonged to other people. I want to make my own, in a secluded corner of the woods.

I really hope they include being able to make your own camp.

They also need to make booze do more. I drink a lot of booze in Fallout, the strength bonus is handy and convenient when hauling loot. I can't remember the last time I drank a beer in Oblivion, other than probably once or twice when I was in a semi-roleplay mood.

If I have 1000 brooms I should be able to sell them for A LOT of money. If I have one broom then maybe the shop keep doesnt want it and wont pay for it.

And lo the Dovahkiin did scour the land of Skyrim on his quest to collect 1000 brooms with which to sweep the steps of High Hrothgar. Oh and he killed a few dragons along the way too.

I'm afraid I want loads of clutter in the game. Loads of good stuff in shops, loads of various quality stuff in houses, loads of mostly broken stuff in caves and old forts.

And I want the majority of the stuff in caves to be worthless, the majority of stuff in houses to be virtually worthless, and the stuff in stores to be really hard to steal.

I would never want clutter items to be removed from the Elder Scrolls, some players might consider it a minor thing, but to me, clutter is an important aspect of the Elder Scrolls, in a lot of RPGs, the only items that exist are ones that can be useful to the player, you might sometimes . But I don't mind if Bethesda made an effort to make some clutter items have some use. And if there's no other way to use a clutter item, you can always sell it, so no more clutter items ith no value. It doesn't have to be a high value, but even the lowest quality plates and bowls should be at least worth one coin. Now, I could understand bones not having a value, because these are things most people wouln't want, but plates, bowls and such are practical things people would buy and sell, just because the player has no use for them doesn't mean no one does, so why should they have no value? The value of clutter items should be based on their quality, so silverware items should be worth more than crude wooden ones, for example, but even those should have a little bit of value. The only items which should have no value are ones that you would not expect to see on sale to begin with. If clutter items had some value, then it might actually be worthwhile to steal things again.

As far as how to make use of clutter, at the mention of bones, I thought of how MMM for Oblivion lets the player make arrows using bones and other such items, might be worth considering, especially since we already know the game has smithing. Since this is the case, I'd also say that animal pelts should definately be able to be used to make leather armor.

Don't take out clutter, but have a use for some of it.

Bam, compromise.

Word.

this clutter make the world more real and they can be selled for money and can be great for low level characters and thief's.

but yeah they need to be valuable to at least 1 gold.

i hope we get more clutter than oblivion and morrowind combined.

Hear! Hear!

let common items be like chairs or tables or barrels that are worth far more than a clay bowl yet have no value attached and are not subject to theft, nor are they used as weapons or inventoried as assets.
let the character's first theft be a silver spoon or a carelessly left amulet through an open window not wooden spoons and clay dishes. Thieves would get hands hacked off if caught so you may as well go for things with value like metals and jewels.

If you're saying make clutter useful without lowering the actual number of brooms/shears etc. then I agree.

Having lots of junk that you can pick up is a big part of TES IMO

Good ideas. I like the idea of "useless" clutter actually having a use of some sort. As long as they assigned anything that would have a value (i.e. anything that was crafted/manufactured, including brooms and tools and tableware), that would be cool. Of course the value of such things probably wouldn't be much more than 1 or maybe 5 gold at the most, it would still give everything somewhat of a feeing of worth.

i would love if they add out more valuable clutter too like gems and precious metal and stuff ,oblivion added quite a few of them whit different quality's but is missing stuff like gold,Silver bars.

as i consider them real treasure for my character.

I think there should be more improvised weaponry in the game. Like using torches, shovels, scythes and the like as weapons. And being able to write with ink and paper would be great.

Clutter even if useless or worthless, is essential.

walk into anyones house in Skyrim and it should have all the appropriate things they need to live there. like a real home, look around yourself right now...

If you walk into an alcoholics home it should be very real, feel very lived in, generally untidy, have a door mat, a iron cooking stove, maybe piles of logs for the fire, a bear skin rug, a tankard or 5.. a pile of empty bottles strewn around the place, a pile of unwashed bowls and cutlery, the curtains pulled closed, cobwebs in the corner, dust particle sytem in the air, stains on the floor, the Nord in there should be un shaven, haggard, craggy voice, aged from the abuse, and if you could smell him well you wouldn't want to, the room smells not very nice as is...

none of the stuff needs to DO anything, even if it would be cool. like throwing some logs onto the fire...

I love the clutter items. My character usually collects some of that clutter. Fishing poles, shoes, calipers, lutes....

Definitely got to keep the clutter but it needs realistic weight and value.

Previously the lowest value and weight were 1 septim and 1.6ounces respectively.

They need to add anther decimal place so the lowest value and weight is .1 septim and .16 ounces

Also though to even things out with realistic weight we need a volumetric inventory.
