Features from other games

For example, from the Witcher 2 forums:

JUMPING - because Beth hasnt done a very good job with this before and Beth game worlds are just asking for this

RED Engine allows player to jump, sit, use stairs / ladders. Freerun – no way.
#### There is a different animation to each specific obstacle. There is one animation, when you jump up 2 meters, and another, when it’s 2.8m. Another animation when you run and jump, another when you walk - yet another when you're standing. ###

### You can jump onto obstacles up to 2.8m and jump down up to 5m. You can also jump over obstacles up to 4m wide. You can jump over fences and walls up to 2.8m. You can use ladders. Some additional possibilites appear only in quests (ex. you must use the chimney to give gifts to children, but you can’t enter every chimney). Obstacles up to certain height are jumped over automatically.

COMBAT AI - Because it makes sense

Each type of opponent has it’s unique AI. If you happen to fight with guy equipped with shield and then guy with two swords, you tactics has to change. Combat is not like “go and mash” – it requires to develop your character. You will also be forced to try different tactics – block, jump away, attack, avoid special attack of opponent etc. It’s not that simple.

Combat system from Mount&blade, including the mounted combat.

edit: but make it more visceral than M&B did - judging by the video Skyrim combat has this down pat

So, Witcher will become open world? Otherwise I don't see why you would need all those different jumps.

ooh yes! a bit more flashy (nowhere near anime-ish please!) though, befitting the TES fantasy setting

Red Dead Redemption travel style. Which means both fast travel via the map, and fast travel via travel services, where you can actually see you travel, but if you want, press a button to skip travel-scene.

I want the ability to walk in one direction, but look in another. Evey MMO has it these days, and they aren't much different than Bethesda's games: huge expansive worlds to explore.

That sounds otherwordly cool, I didn't play that one. Can you get off the "bus" anytime you want during the travel?
I also want speechcraft options in special dialogue lines, a la Fallout.

Not entirely sure. I haven't played it either. All I've done is reading about it and watching a travel-video on youtube to show how things work. Seems like a really good game. It has a lot of great features, good graphics, seems to have a good story too.

Anyway from what I've undetstood, the trains stop at determined towns (quite obviously). I also think you could jump off the trains if you wanted to. That's my guess.

And carriages... I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's pretty safe to asssume you would be able to get off those any time you want. Would be really horrible if you get on the carriage and then you're stuck there for some time... So yeah I think you would be able to get off.

with the trains you could get off at stations or just jump off the moving train if you wanted. One of the achievements was to shoot birds while standing atop a moving train which was very cool.

with the carriages you couldn't stop half way. either skip to destination or watch a long cinematic of you travelling in it and making small talk with the driver.

The skill based dialogues from New Vegas.

A fast travel system like Arcanum/Dragon Age where you see your progress on the map and can be stopped by random encounters. Would make fast travel more and interesting and for those who don't like it, more realistic.

A travel companion like Virgil from Arcanum, or someone equally as sarcastic.

DA: O's spell combo system.

In some ways I'm a fan of those, but not for the most part. I hate that you can't say the line if your skill isn't high enough. I feel that they shouldn't tell you what you need to make that line work. And some lines should be able to be said, but if the skill check isn't made, you suffer negative consequences. I hate that every link is pretty much click able and that you can't piss people off and lose your rights to converse with them.

I didn't know that about the carriages. If I were a dev I'd certainly add it in. Would be cool to stop whenever you felt like, I think :)

From pretty much every game ever except bethesda RPG's you have been able to take cover behind walls. Now, yes I am aware that there are no bullets to dodge and there is a shield for you to hide behind, but for things like sneaking at least you will be able to "hug the wall".
