Features That You Feel Can Improve Brink

Post » Sat May 14, 2011 9:38 am

This is just a post to say what I personally, and what I have seen other posters ask for on the discussion board, as well as other sites. These are my opinions and what I'd like to see. If you disagree, leave a post saying why. This isn't a post to start a flamewar. I'd like intelligent discussion as to what the community would like to see. Feel free to add on. I will be editing this post as people reply, and I see them posted.

I will add a strikethrough for suggestions or fixes implemented or on the way.

Example: M1=Menu Section To use this feature. All you do is hit Ctrl+F and the Search Function will come up. Type in the corresponding code as shown in the example to jump to the section. Sections+color codes are below.

Sections:
Menu Suggestions-M1

Character Suggestions-C1

Mid-Game Suggestions-G1

Weapon/Attachment Suggestions-W1

Ability Suggestions:-AB1

AI Suggestions-A1

General/Fix Suggestions-F1
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[M1]Menu Suggestions:

-Better lobby system.

-Easier to navigate weapons menu with options to compare. The menu swaps from the main gun menu to the Command Post menu and it can be frustrating in the middle of the game.

-Character customization background color options as well as menu color option. White can hurt after awhile if you spend enough time tweaking and fleshing out a character to be just right.

[C1]Character Suggestions:

-More customization. Honestly, I'm dissapointed with the options we were given. Only a handful of gun attachments, which are debatable at best. No gun camo, almost all the hairstyles are the same, and only the outfits really have a good bit of variety. (Love The Anger)

-Female characters would make a welcome addition. (I understand they opted out of this due to wanting to add more customization, but let's be honest. There really isn't all that much customization and it would be nice to have the option.)

-Increased level cap for more hardcoe players. Being able to allocate points so as to not feel gimped when picking one class over another. This really applies to solo players, or those who don't have friends with the game and like to play with bots.

-Alternative to above: Slower leveling, slightly higher level cap.

-Heavys getting a slight health boost/damage reduction.

-Being able to edit scars/tattoos after Character Creation.

-Custom color facepaint/tattoos.

[M1]Mid-Game Suggestions:

-Body type change mid-game.

[W1]Weapon/Attachment Suggestions:

-Duct-Taped Mags/Drum Mag increasing ammo supply. In the beta/demo at E3 it used to give a green number and give you an increase in ammo as well as the additional reload speed increase/increased clip/magazine. I don't understand why they did away with this, but I'm sure that would make the game much more enjoyable for people.

-More gun variety. Most of the guns are very similar in terms of design and attachments.

-Being able to customize weapons at a Command Post. (I personally am fine that you can't, but I admit I'd like to see that in case a weapon I'm trying out is a dud.)

-Less spread on LMGs.

-More crosshairs to use.

[AB1]Ability Suggestions:

-Operative's being able to give a buff/self-buff.

-Either an ability or just a general change to increase grenade throwing distance.

-Universal Ability: Sleight of Hand(Faster Reload)

-Reduce the time it takes the turret to fire at an opponent, possibly increase range slightly.

-Not losing a level to respec. It kind of kills the urge to respec/try new combinations for some.

[A1]AI Suggestions:

-AI needs a complete overhaul as they start out decent, but then become gods as you level, but only on opposing teams. Your friendly AI are so stupid it's astonishing anything gets done.

-More buff friendly bots. Some will load you with buffs, others will never even notice you.

-Shortcut/Objective friendly AI. It really is a pain when most of the maps that I can create a shortcut on, the AI ignore it. The enemy AI will send 1-3 to blow it up, but my AI ignore it, even if it's got the secondary timer up. (This happens 50/50.) Not to mention the fact that I never get them to go for the objective which kinda pigeonholes players and forces them to play a class. Some classes may not mind, but others would like to focus on their class of choice.

-Pre-recorded commands for AI Squadmates such as: Requesting a Medic/Ammo/Buffs, Follow me!, Take this objective!, Defend this objective!, Take x Command Post! Defend Me! Etc, etc.

[F1]General/Fix Suggestions:

-Lag fixes.

-Better hit detection. The game is 60-40 for me when it comes to hit detection. At times it's spot on and I can just destroy someone. Other times I'll be aiming right at the player and I'll never hit them, or I get 1 pt. even though every bullet hit him. (I burst fire, even with automatic weapons). Adding on to this, my recent match I used the Bulpdaun SMG(love the blue iron sights and low recoil) and I hit every shot and did 1 pt of damage each time. Bot spun around and killed me in less than a second. He was using the SMG as me.

-More maps/more variety gametype wise. Team Deathmatch would be easy. Just crop a map, increase health, and add a few command posts here and there to spice things up. CTF, Domination/HQ gametypes would be kind neat as well given the Command Posts are sort of like HQs.

-If the above suggestion were to be implemented keep the side-objectives such as Main Barricade/Side Barricade and Short-Cuts to spice things up and add objectives for people to focus on while also killing. Would really keep the game interesting.

-Being able to shoot through rails. Everything else I have no problem with, but rails always stop my bullets dead.

-Increased weapon range/fix. SMGs not hitting too far, ok, they're close-range weapons. My sometimes I'd rather use my SMG than my Assault Rifle for even mid-long range fights. That's not right. The hit detection on it seems off at range. I use the Gerund AR.

-Mine fixes. I've seen, and I've done it myself where I can walk over or in extremely close proximity to a mine and it never goes off. This happens more than often with my mines and often times ruins my defensive position as 3-5 of them bum rush us from the side. Me and a turret just can't handle 100% accurate bots alone with little to no cover.

-A zoom in function for the Mounted MGs. They are extremely inaccurate and that pretty much defeats the purpose of a Mounted MG. Not to mention the animation of getting on it, or getting off it takes a second or two so you're a sitting duck. It doesn't do nearly enough and isn't worth the risk most of the time.

-Shotguns are seriously overpowered at times. I've been one shot from across the map, through walls even.

-Random loss of sound can be frustrating. Especially when trying to determine footsteps or gunshot directions.

-Better matchmaking system and less confusing.

-Option to look for a game without bots. Human players only. With this the option to avoid unbalanced team games, or not full games would be nice.

-Breakable glass.

-Shadow rendering issues.

-Make SMART smoother.

-Fix issues with graphics not rendering or rendering mid game. Make them sharper.

-Map Editor

-More challenges for offline players.

-More Parkour oriented maps in the DLC.

-Option to change language on all consoles.

-One time action button presses when reviving/buffing. Instead of having to hold it down.

More gun variety. The guns do all feel the same/have the same weight.

EDIT: Thanks for adjusting the OP, it's a lot friendlier to look at.

These are handled automatically. Medics will hear teammates under fire yell "MEDIC!!" before they go down - the players themselves don't hear this, and nobody who isn't a Medic will either. Similarly, when you're a Soldier, and an ally has less than a full magazine worth of ammo, they call "I need AMMO!" at you.

I say also keep some of the side-objectives (eg. barricades, destructable shortcuts) just to add a wee bit of extra depth and strategy.

I think a better developer needs to rip off the concept and do it better.

I don't trust Splash Damage after this. They have to do A LOT to redeem themselves at this point. Its 3 days after the launch and the game is so sloppy good guys like the OP are doing all the work Splash Damage should have done in the first place.

I would love to see a better matchmaking/ lobby system, I have played several games now and not one has been a multiplayer game, getting sick of the thick AI team, I have no idea how to get into a guaranteed MP game

Thanks. I really like this game and I've noticed far too many are falling short as of late. Ie. Homefront and Killzone 3. Both came out strong, but the issues were presented and the games just didn't quite get off the ground as was expected. Hopefully they'll take a look at this and we'll see some updates soon. Most games suffer from Launch Syndrome, but I'm going to be optimistic and do what I can.

- Reduce the Heavy body types LMG spread and increase its damage, both only slightly.
- Increase snipers damage and max ammo capacity.

- Fix the shadow rendering issues with ATI cards.

- Add more maps for free.
- Optimize the existing maps.

- Make unlocking slower and the level cap higher. At like 5 hrs into the game I had pretty much everyone unlocked already.

Oh right, I forgot about that. xD

Also:
- Allow for preset's in armor customization for each body type. So if you set up a Heavy armor look, and a Light armor look, they can be different, instead of having to change it all if you swap. (You can cut down that sentence if you want)

[C1] Please allows us to edit tattoos/scars after Character Creation! I really messed up, but I don't feel like abandoning my character. Why this restriction was put in in the first place confuses me....

1. Release a map editor
2. DLCs should include maps that have been designed for parkour
3. Option to allow a player to swap between light to heavy body on the fly, in-game
4. Bug / Performance fixes
