Features you'd like to see in Fallout Online?

Post » Thu Jul 16, 2009 6:04 pm

The last thing i wanna see is the best game fail at it's online step so i thought it might be a nice idea to share thoughts of experienced mmorpg players what you'd like to see in fallout online. As there are plenty of mmorpgs out there and 90% are pure crap the biggest mistake a company can do in my opinion is asking their managers or programmers of what the mmorpg should be like instead of asking the source which are the experienced and passionated players.

I like direct control over my character no clicking to move somewhere, and it makes it a hassle in large groups to fight. I'll think of more later I'm sure.

No boring pvp (meaning: you should do more than aim- push 2-3 buttons then jump around in a circle)

No boring grinding (meaning: you shouldn't have to kill 2000 of animal X to lvl up)

Teamplay, that is always fun and.. well its a mmorpg.. why wouldnt there be teamplay :P but just make it fun somehow xD

Don't make the learning curve to steep, many players does not find it fun to spend hours upon hours just learning the game.

Many fun quests and repeatable ones. So you (as I said earlier) don't do a mission then have to stand and grind all day to lvl up.

There are probably tons of other stuff but I cant think if any more important things atm. Image

I'd like to see not too much PvE-content. Of course there has to be, but please don't focus the game around the same old boring grind and AI murdering over and over.
Everytime I watch a movie, play a game or read a book in a post-apocalyptic setting, I think that interaction between people is the most important, as they now only have each other to rely upon.
Also especially in a Fallout-MMO, at least servers with the option of unforgiving, open PvP are very important. Of course they have to cater to everyones needs, but please add an option for the really hardcoe gamers like me. With this housing could also add some really nice depth, where the players themselves would have to organize security for their "towns".
I also hope that they try to minimize NPC's. Ultima Online had for example a really flourishing player interaction in it's early stages, just because you couldn't really get any of the good stuff from a NPC. Same goes with EvE Online, if I got it right (didn't ever play it much but heard a lot of good things about it).
And last; clone the Pre-CU SWG "leveling" system. It was flawless.

TL DR;
Low amount of PvE and instanced "dungeons"(vaults?)
No reliance on NPC's.
Server option for completly open PvP.
Player housing and towns.

Handling defeat appropriately.

We're talking about a nuclear wasteland, and as such, I want to loot the corpses of my fallen foes. But at the same time, I wan't my own defeats to be occasions that won't drive me to despair and eventually make me quit the game for a time because I'm annoyed.

Extrapolating from that, PvP should be handled with care, whatever that means.

Mostly a list of stuff I would like to be left out
    No levels
    No classes
    No magic/psychic powers
Not being able to join BoS (make them they gimmick they where in FO)
No leftover urban sprawls (depending on what the timeframe is -- everything we have today would be gone after 200 years of neglect and being bombed by nuclear bombs)
No first person shooter game play (considering lag and the fact that I svck at FPS games).
    Meaningful and useful skills
Vehicles (make fuel freaking rare please!)
Few firearms (ammo would be rare if people have plundered for centuries and weapons will be broken)
"Realistic" energy weapons (energy weapons svck -- it's far more efficient to throw a metal slug at people). Of course completely realistic energy weapons would svck too.
No über gear ala Power armours. I would expect BoS (and what's left of the dead, defeated and broken Enclave -- why don't people get that they're gone?) to be the only ones to have any kind of advanced armours.
If no levels won't happen, the at least make advancement perk based (one perk per level).
Not being able to play ghoul, super mutant or other non-human races (i.e. just humans)

Well sieging is always great. Maybe guilds could build up vaults/wasteland towns and we could siege vaults/towns.

i would like to see a real breathing world/ kinda like guildwars 2 where there isnt a quest giver with a explantion point above his head but actaully seeing raiders attacking a town and people fleeing, so you decide to help do nothing or killem all and take everything, and if a few raiders?towns people survive they try to rebuild move on home or even go attack someplace new. just my 2 cents. hugs

I'm hoping there will not be heavy instancing and too many servers. Thinking that you know anything about MMOs because you play WoW. Is like thinking you're a master chef because you work at McDonalds.

One continuous world with no instancing
In depth trading and crafting skillsets (Was there ever a game more perfect for crafting?)
Limited safe zones, otherwise PvP
Housing & Clan property
No vehicles
FPS style PvP
Simple and uncomplicated GUI
And much, much more.

First:
Second:
I am for the real economics. One place have a lot of one resource but lack of another, so it's habitants(players!!!) have to organize trade caravans and go to another place and trade one type of resources to another and bring them back to their town. Another players may know it and try to get that resources for free somewhere in the wasteland. Yes, this idea is sounds like "I wanta rob corovanz"

Third: Excuse my bad English... I am a Russian bear, it's hard to type with claws.

good looking game that's not messy - fallen earth was one of those good games that was fugly plus i hated the crafting UI, took me a long time to find everything :p
lots of end game content - this is where alot of games fail In gaming terms... Life's a die, then you bich.

Intuitive UI and combat systems.
Involving quests and storylines.
Full open world PvP, with the ability to opt out of it.
Certain areas that combine PvE and PvP, in example, large group bosses with very desirable items in an open-PvP zone, causing groups to fight over them and their drops.
Hoping for a fairly standard class system, I know most people like the idea of the same ol' skill system and such from the earlier games but I'm not sure it'll translate well to an MMO, or to balance.
Vibrant and interesting world.
Some degree of player housing (preferably with the ability to place anything anywhere inside your home like, for instance, EQ)
The ability to hide your actual gear and wear anything you have as a cosmetic set, it really adds to making your character feel unique.
A large amount of personalization in character creation, lots of hair choices, face choices, stuff like that.
I'd also like a height slider.

I would like to see;

Good story line and overall narrative

Fun quests

engaging PvP (however they decide to do it I'm sure it will be great)

Player/Guild/Clan housing a place to call our own. This is also really awesome for role playing. Group of friends planing there adventure.

In depth character creation even throughout the game.(battle scars, Tattoos, trophy's, hair cuts :D)
*Edit perhaps other player races such as ghouls, Death claws?

Pets/companions. Some are like vanity pets that don't do anything and some maybe are like pack mules.

Combat System that doesn't stray to far from other Fallout games, Action points and different attack options(aimed, burst, thrust, swing etc.)

and so much more...basically the best darn game they can make! :D

i would like to see crafting, factions and good economy, that's it.

crafting its self explanatory, making everything from food and cloth to weapons (or even building for factions).
good "economy" means no super god like class that can do everything, you must be depend on everyone else, for example you need the crafters to fix your equipment(equipment need to decay) or to make something better than the generic stuff in the market.
you need the "fighter" to defend the faction crafters and in the battlefield you must to cooperate with other classes (ranged, close) and support classes(medics, engineers?)

if the game will not encourage team play, it will end like many others where you basically can do everything yourself no need for team work and after time you go to the next game (see fallen earth)

since there is no chance in a MMO for "actions and consequences" meaning every save the town and the world, the only real palce to see progression is in factions, meaning the stronger you get you can improve your faction base have some special faction tabard everyone will recognize and hopefully faction war

I'd like to see a Bar or Saloon thing, where you go to and can get drinks and everything, but there might be some where you and a whole bunch of other people can go and start a brawl.

I was thinking it should be a great idea for fps style of MMO. I dont want too much spell but some weapon usage
Second is the personality set just like when u play sims. U will have different goal in ur life and how u to achieve it
Housing it will be great
Mount .. i dont see the use of motor as oil being scarce so im thinking brahmanian or mutant horse could act as mount.
Can choose faction, u can be a raider, brotherhood of steel and others.
reputation gained from different village.
Fighting against oil refinery and mansion (for guild)
Gambling..
Having six ?? Hmm...

Great storyline and engaging quests.

I liked the open pvp of Warhammer online and public questing and would like to see something along those lines added to this game.

A skill based class system where your class is determined by the skills you choose per level (or if not level based then by usage). Each class has skill requirements and once you meet those requirements you get a bonus or two for achieving the class (i.e. added accuracy for a sniper and a kill shot ability, and so forth)

Tons of PVP. I want there to be factions, but not your typical mmo factions (Horde/Alliance). I think you should be able to go from hero to raider and back again with some hard work. Each faction would have quests that assault or cause grief for the other.

Some towns should be able to change factions. Certain well defended towns (Rivet City-Fallout 3/Reno-Fallout 2) won't be able to change factions due to their protection, but some towns can be taken over and take on the flavor or that faction until it's taken over again.

I'm not a fan of huge death penalties. Something minor if anything at all. Timer? No experience loss please.

No magic powers. Things should be skill based, ALTHOUGH something related to mutations would be cool and unique.

Guilds should be called gangs or factions and would be cool if they had their own hideouts that could be assaulted, but not necessary at time of launch. Would be a good added feature.

Lots of character customization.
Tons of crafting. With a world covered in junk and debris it would be a shame not to have crafting be a big part of the economy since nothing is manufactured anymore.

I will think of some others later.

I am new as of Aug. 27. 2010

BOSS ENCOUNTER
I have been doing a lot of reading but have not as yet found anything discussing BOSS ENCOUNTERS.
Will there be Boss Encounters in game that require groups/raids to take down these bosses and thier minions? I hope so... That is one of the key features I have liked in all the MMORPG's I have played in the past.
WOW (yes I played WOW for a couple years.)
    Final Fantasy XI
    Guild Wars
    EverQuest
Loot Master:
Will the group or raid leader be able to assign a Loot Master to prevent Ninja Looters from grabbing items and running? :o
This is one thing that really got me hot under the collar in some MMORPG's. People stealing Loots, leaving the group and logging out.
Trading Unique Set Items should not be allowed. I stopped playing WOW because they alowed this to happed. People were rolling on items they couldn't use so they could give it to thier budy. "WRONG" Does it really matter to Duck and Cover with a inbound Nuke?
