Features you would like to see in Fallout 4?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 2:09 am

Since I couldn't find a thread in a similar vein, here we are.

Are there any features or additions you're hoping or wishing to see in Fallout 4, which haven't yet been confirmed?

Personally, my greatest want from the game is a bit abnormal: I want a wedding ring on the main character, equipped in their inventory at the moment they spawn. Seeing how they have a spouse during the introduction, it's only natural that this be a feature. For a more emotional impact, having it equipped could lock out all romance options, or those in the same theme, instead provoking a comment about the wedding ring, suggesting that your character is still faithful to their spouse. Of course, you could un-equip it, possibly losing a tiny but recognizable bonus, but gaining the ability to participate in more intimate conversation with NPCs.

It would also be pretty great to acquire some sort of vehicle, since the game world is going to be huge, and travel will become even more of a chore on foot for those who value immersion and/or dislike fast travel. A motorcycle could fit in well, though that presents the issue of your dog keeping up while you're on the road. A car could be possible, considering the Highwayman of Fallout 2, and it would allow you to transport followers. If this doesn't end up being a vanilla feature, I can see a mod coming out pretty quickly.

I have always thought it would nice to have transportation (horse or bike) just for fun. But they already said it's not in the game. It really wouldn't work in this game either. From the pics I've seen. Also people having posted seeing a wedding ring slot on the PC.

Yes! After a bit of digging, I've found the pictures of the wedding ring on the PC. Hopefully it's not just cosmetic, since they'd be missing a bit of an opportunity there with interactions.

It's unfortunate about the transportation. Maybe they'll present an in-world alternative, like hopping from place to place in that vertibird we see the character climb into?

If you check out the presentation, you can see the wedding ring in the Lone Survivor's inventory when they demo the pipboy.

I'm hoping they have really expanded the companions.

Particularly with companion quests, comments, and the like.

I just hope they can finally put in companions that are at least as good as the top 10 companions on Nexus. otherwise what the hell are we paying them 60 bucks for? oh right. Mods.

Crafting unique armor not found through the rest of Boston from parts and about as extensive as it is for crafting weapons with modification properties.

Well, friend, I don't think you've looked around enough because threads like this (even with similar names) are relatively common.

Anyways, one feature I would like to see is having the chance of becoming a ghoul due to the radiation storms said to be present in the game. I know the odds of this being/getting in are pretty remote, but I think it would be a neat wrinkle to the game.

Backpacks. Seriously, those shouldn't be left to the modders.

I really only have one thing I want.

Let us disable the fact that conversation shows us in advance if a speech check or such will fail or succeed. Completely ruins immersion and consequences in conversation.

I would like to see a proper barter system in Fallout rather than everybody walking around with a million bottlecaps. A post apocalyptic society would exchange items with whatever was lying around at the time and people would struggle to get through each day.

You could hand in a Painspike armor and get a Combat shotgun.

Perhaps give a Raider helmet for a stimpak etc.

Not really a feature; but I just hope Fallout 4 will include black (reinforced) Leather Armor. It's the only thing I want to wear! But here's hoping that the layered armor system gives me the means to recreate the Mad Max Wasteland Wanderer. :)

You presume that they are married, which might not be the case (yes they - sadly enough - probably are...sorry, not a fan of marriage myself as the child of divorced parents)!

If the MC had to deal with their spouse dying I could see the wedding ring providing an endurance bonus or something.

I just want a grenade button. Please.

A cover system as seen in the Uncharted games, the GTA games etc. would be great. Failing that, some leaning animations/prone animations so I can shoot without completely exposing myself would also be a nice step forward.

The player character model should reflect your equipment better. If I'm carrying a rifle and a handgun, I'd like to see both of them equipped on his person.

Immersive first-person camera where if I look down I see my body from shoulders to feet.

When you're playing male and you talk to a prosttute you can see a bump looking down at your feet that wouldn't be there otherwise if you were talking to someone else. That level of immersion.

- Climbing Ledges, Long-Jumping, Rolling functions for mobility.

- Expanded gunplay - (Sprint & Shoot / Cover System / Duel Weilding / Meat Shielding / Grenade Tragectory Scope)

- Mini-Turret Mods on Power Armour

- Brahman, Yao Guai, Big Horn Pack-Mounting

- Bleed Out Timer (for Unconcious NPCs/Companions)

- Ghoulification Option / FEV Perks / Cybernetic Augmentation

- No more Rag-Doll Death Animations.

- Enemies should have their own stats and perks for diversity and challenge.

- Customizable Spouse & Dog.

  • pack brahmin "companion"
  • science/repair solutions for quests and obstacles (way too rare in FO3 & NV)
  • digging/removing rubble as a means to get into new spaces (shovel, explosives, paid labor)
  • non-lethal combat and enemies that flee if given the chance
  • hardcoe mode with needs and added difficulty
  • less generic enemies, more fluff stories to flesh out characters and places
  • raiders with a story and identity - different gangs, rivalries, unique markers - maybe even the ability to play one against the other by means of dialogue
And fewer corpses and guts used as decoration - I thought it bloody stupid in Fallout 3. Would rot way too fast, stink up places, bring animals, bugs, diseases.
  • weird characters marked by hard lives in the wasteland
  • Science! and it's follies
  • weather as the enemy instead of merely fancy graphics
  • more fleshes out interiors and less locked doors
  • vertical exploration - especially if we're going to have jump packs. Include places where you need to enter from the 2nd, 3rd, 4th floor or jump up a level to find the goodies and stories.
  • meaningful companion with their own stories, thoughts and possibly interaction between them. Bioware does this well, their companions feel like individuals.
  • a wasteland that makes an effort to get over the status quo and rebuild
  • changing settlements based on the PC's actions and events transpiring in the greater wasteland

Sounds more player skill based then character skill based.

Duel wielding would be a no for me, just stupid movie gimmick. Grenade trajectory (dotted line?) sounds good tho'.

Not sold on this - because Fallouts tech lacks microprocessors and miniaturization.

FEV shouldn't be a perk, if at all it should be hard to get to and unpredictable and disfiguring.

Mods are in, cybernetics still not fitting Fallouts background (I'm saying this very well aware we're going to have cyborgs).

Ghoulification should be an option, but since Ghouls are prejudiced against it would probably change the gameplay too much - unless you want prejudice turn into snarky comments only.

The RPG system from New Vegas and the eating requirements (I wasn't a fan of the other hardcoe things (like Boone croaking every time an enemy appeared) but I used it anyway). Looks like the skills system has been thoroughly broken though, so it remains to be seen how well the new system works.

Also DT, please, for crying out loud.

-DR, as the DT system was so broken even J Sawyer had to give medium and heavy armor DR to make them worthwhile in NV in his mod.

-None of this "You cant even try to hack until you get X skill level" bull. There is no such thing as a magical force field that prevents you from trying simply because you do not meet a skill level req.

-% based speech checks. No one, no matter how good of a liar they are, is able to fool everyone all the time, and even people who never lie can sometimes pull of a big one. The threshold system used in NV's speech checks doesn't properly reflect the nature of speech between people, the % based system does.

-The ability to not level up/pick perks if you don't want to. One o the worst features of Fo3 and NV was being forced to level up, and spend all of your skill points, and take a perk, before you could exit the level up screen.

Looks like they're inching into this territory with base raids and brahman caravans, but I'd like more repeatable world content. Like

  • funding, supplying, and/or escorting caravans within or between the factions.
  • Raiding caravans of factions you're not aligned with
  • give each settlement a material rating on food, construction materials, guns, ammo, water, power. Allow the player to contribute materials to these stores in exchange for town perks (discounts, free services, special followers, etc). The stores will gradually decrease over time, so the player has to keep the contributions up to keep reaping the rewards. I keep wondering what one of the more rundown settlements of NV/FO3 would have looked like after I dropped 100 Fission Batteries, a couple dozen fully repaired laser rifles, and enough cells to fight a dozen wars.
  • Have random named bandits/mercs/whatever take over cleared interiors so you can have fun re-clearing them.

These would be especially cool if they factored into the ending slide shows. Like if you run 100 brahman caravans and keep X settlements above a certain threshold of material for so long, you get a slide saying something like...
"The wanderer was dearly missed after his departure, but the legacy of his trade and cunning distribution of salvage, ushered in an era of growth and hope in "
