I feel bad for killing dragons

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 12:49 pm

Perhaps if there was an option to let the dragons live somewhere, away from people, I could just let them be. However, they do attack towns all on their own, so while many are simply dragon hunters, others want to protect themselves from the dragons, and the only way is to kill the dragons before the dragons kill them.

The greybeards has a place on top of the mountain where the good dragons like paarthurnax and Odahviing can live. Also an idealistic place to hang out (well for humans who want to protect good dragons) would be the aludin wall location. Of course you either have to convince [censored]y Delphine and ebern to change the way they do things or just kill both and make it your personal hangout place.

In most of stories dragons are unagressive. They dont are killer machines (in stories) they attack when they are unsafe. If u let they be alone they let u be alone.. (in stories) and that way i must be in game too!
Yes there is agressive dragons too but rarely (in stories). Alduin is one of them.. Akatosh was unagressive.

I think this game needs Dragon God Akatosh...

Akatosh is a dragon, perhaps he could come and sort things out.

I wonder how the dragons felt, being made to kill and get killed.

For a joke example...let's say i'm a dragon right now, and I've yet to be 'born' on nirn. Akatosh sends for me.

Akatosh : Ahhh, Shaminar my boy, do come in.

Me : (excitedly...like a overly friendly puppy) Yes, pappa, you asked to see me?

Akatosh : yes, I want you to be 'born' into the world of Nirn. it's lush, full of different environments and loads of multi-cultural races of different species.

me : ooooh! I love meeting mortals. I remember the time I befriended that paladin and we....

Akatosh : Yes, yes, yes....but I want you for a very special purpose on Nirn.

Me : Really, what's that?

Akatosh : you and all of your brothers and sisters will dominate the world, rain fire and frost on the populace, enslave them, and then die by their hands.

me : 0.0 ...........................................................(very slowly and carefully as though I thought I missheard what he said) Uh, what did you just say?

Akatosh : Well, I feel that dragons have had too much time being nice to others, so I'm sending you to conqer, enslave and then die; your brother Alduin will fill you in...now off you jolly well go.

Me : (very reuctantly and shell shocked)....uh.......allright

I leave Akatosh, feeling completely shattered...he wants me to kill mortals and get killed?!?!

I'm fairly sure that the back when they were driven to extinction all those years ago it was because they were enslaving man and mer as the dragons considered them inferior beings and they were worshipped as Gods. Long story short they were worshipped as Gods by the original humans from Atmora and they took advantage of that to enslave them and put them through horrible pain and suffering. Eventually the people rose up and rebelled against the Dragons with the help of the Dragonborn and eventually drove the dragons to extinction.

If they had the chance to do that again they would. I wouldnt feel sorry for them.

It is his destiny to destroy the world, but it wasn't the proper time which is why the Dovahkiin was sent to stop him. However since you are the last Dovahkiin I suspect when he returns again there will be no stopping his wrath.

Yeah I feel bad about driving a race to the point of extinction. True that there isn't a lot of choice, but it's still sad.

It even says in the load screens that dragons want nothing more then to enslave the human race, so do I feel bad about killing them? No.

Actually, if you finish the main quest, a lot of the dragons ignore you, or will even fight on your side. I killed Krosis that way, death by the dragon that lives up there....then he flew off on his merry way.

If dragons were bunnies or cows or deer, I'd understand. But dragons aren't animals. They're sentient beings, with a history of dominating others and challenging anyone who defies their authority. They'd talk to you, only if you were worthy of respect and had more power than them. Except, when they try that, they take it too far and get killed.

Some try to control this drive. There's an easy case to be made for being sympathetic to that... but you should really just sell the game if you can't get over it when it comes to other dragons. I mean, the whole game is about being a dragonslayer - and being considered good for it. Not questionably good, not grey area good.. just plain good. Dragonslaying is good.

They attack on sight. I have no qualms about killing in self-defense.
If you feel bad you don't have to kill them. Just run away as they breathe fire on you.

I don't even understand how someone could buy this game and then feel bad about it. It makes no sense. Did they watch some other trailer or just pick up the box randomly and put it in a shopping cart? It's like buying Tony Hawk Pro Skater, but not liking skateboarding.

They're kind of like the Alphas of mortal races. If you went to a party, and there was some Alpha male or female talking crap and humiliating people or bullying, and then someone got tired of it, and knock them on their ass, then you wouldn't feel sorry for them. And more than likely, they themselves would probably chill out and respect that person too. It's kind of the language they speak, and know when they've met their match. That's what dragons are. The only difference is they push it to the point where it ends in their death.

I realize that Dragons in the game will always attack you no matter if you're just walking around without a care in the world or looking for a fight (with the exemption of someone you meet later on), but I always feel bad for killing dragons. I guess it's because Dragons were hunted down to near extinction by people who believed that the only solution to the problem is to stick a sword through it and call it done. Whenever I end up killing a dragon I always feel bad for doing so mainly because I empathize with them enough to understand where they're coming from.
why is there no option to at least talk to them and figure out what exactly they want (even if it is the obvious answer of revenge). Does anyone else feel bad about the Dragons just a little bit? Or would you agree that the Dragons should be wiped out?

I actually feel sorry for them a bit too because they were wiped out before and also because they are quite magnificent beasts. Seems a shame to have to wipe them out again to the last creature.

Of course in the old days people would care as much as they cared about the Dodo as they munched on it`s roasted leg.

Come on, the dragons aren't mindless beasts. They know the consequences of their actions. They enslaved, maimed, and massacred the entire human population for millenia - yes, all of them, even Paarthurnax. The dragons you can talk to in the game admit how much they enjoy the 'sport' that mortals can provide, so why not indulge them?

Just after the main quest, I ran across three (!) named Dragons, one right after the other. I can understand being mindlessly attacked by the unnamed dragons, but you'd think the ones with names would be smarter.

I have no desire to kill dragons. I like dragons. They are powerful symbols of wisdom and strength. I find it disappointing that Bethesda seems to paint all but one as one-dimensional villains who only exist to destroy the world. :( I only bought this game because I found out that if you do not do the main quest you will never have to fight one. So the only dragon my characters will ever see is the one that saves their life from the evil Imperials. You know, the ones who were going to chop our character's heads off for [censored] and giggles?

Dragons are usually positive symbols in the eastern type of mentality, but Skyrim borrows more from western lore. Although, they mix it up a bit too. The Greybeards seem to be of the eastern mindset. Not sure about Akavir. Some of them worship dragons, some have been decimated because of them.

The thing about the dragons wanting to destroy or enslave other races is nothing new...Nearly every race has wanted to rule supreme (both here on Earth with so many racisim, sixism, religious/political/military dominance and overall hostility to anyone who isn't of your 'group', and in the Elder Scrolls world)...But wanting to wipe out an entire species/race completely?...thats just wrong.

I know the Altmer are currently in the spotlight as the bad guys, because of the Thalmor and their "we're elves...no, not 'Lord of the Rings' type elves, but we're elves and we're supreme! You are our dogs, and we are your masters" attitude, but not every single Altmer is a pig-headed hoity-toity bigoted idiot.

I also have to ask: when you kill a dragon and absorb their soul, is this drawing their power in and freeing their soul, so it finds peace in the ether (heavens)? or is it devouring the soul, and it disolves in searing agony inside your own soul or body(aka, the Dementors from Harry Potter)?

I also love dragons, I have an obsession with them. I'm also studying at University to be an author and write novels about them.

Yes, I know not all dragons are good, and I know these ones are hostile, but like with everything, isn't live about survival and trying to be the best? (even if it makes you feel what you're doing is right and make others view you as 'nasty')

And as for those who hate dragons, maybe THIS will make you feel sorry for them. (Poor dragon, he needs a hug as everyone's teasing him)

that is completely different, when has a Bethesda game ever been about ONE particular thing?? you can't compare a game that's about ONE thing to a game that's about multiple plots and decisions.
second of all I didn't buy Skyrim, I borrowed it from my step brother.
third of all feeling remorse is human, just because you have no problem wiping out an entire species (regardless of wither it's fake or not) doesn't mean it's "stupid" for anyone else to not have the same mentality.
