Half the fun of visiting a location is being able to collect all the stuff! Sure, the *superficial* reason might be to rescue settler #99 from raiders, but the *real* reason is to get more crafting supplies for my projects. When I leave a location, there isn't a single loose item remaining and every single raider corpse is completely naked. Preston runs away from *me* now! Mwahaha!

This is me. With all forms of media. I feel like I need to experience 'as close to the intended experience as possible' as so I try to do everything and see everything about the intended object. Also, I like to collect things, either because they are rare ('Happy Birthday Sweet Roll'), or because I know I will use them later in the game, so I check EVERYTHING. Every nook, every cranny. Don't feel sorry, Somehow I love it.

Now, I'm no psychologist.. but almost every case here seems more like OCPD, not OCD.

Never mind the looting aspect, how about the fact that only the squared blocks will snap together in build mode and yet very few of the settlements have square or even straight borders. This really agitates my minecraft ocd

Yep. How you play the game is how you play LIFE.... That's actually advanced psychology, there will always be variables but there would always be more constants.

ME, I'm indecisive, I can never decide what quest to do next, I also have impossible standards for myself when building a settlement, these are both a mirror of real life me!

Actually, it was a big relief for me that a lot of items respawn - at least, in places I revisit due to radiant quests. I don't have pick locations clean now, even though I still love to do that in Fallout 3. There's just no point to do that in Fallout 4, at least not for me. Which to me was very welcome and liberating during my playthrough.

I dunno... it's kind of comforting. Like when I've had a crap day and go back to Fallout 4 and just, you know, collect stuff. Simple. Uncomplicated. Happy. But I am only a compulsive type. I don't obsess about that plastic knife I left behind or the hot plate I couldn't carry, I just continue on. No sweat, no problem. But given the opportunity and inventory space? Yeah, I'm compulsively picking up every damned thing and storing it carefully away back at base.

Maybe it's worse for somebody with actual, real, legitimately diagnosed, full-blown OCD. But I doubt there are very many folks with that particular disorder sitting down to play a video game like this when so much else is going on in their lives.

My wife fits the OCD profile, which may be why she's delaying playing this game.

Well, that and the gameplay tends to get her dizzy after a while.

That's a bit extreme. Most cases here aren't even real OCD, just gaming 'habits'. A lot of people though don't know the difference between a compulsion and a habit. Some cases are OCD but most aren't. Most people with OCD know that their behaviour is illogical and they realize it does not make sense. Now OCPD is something a little more sinister, most sufferers are unaware that they have anything wrong, it can be so extreme it can destroy families, it is much more extreme and would go way beyond hoarding Duct Tape in a virtual sandbox.

Must admit, I am a little on the OCD side here. I pick up damn near everything and I don't enter a building unless I can finish the whole building. Fortunately, I don't feel the need to do every quest or find every map marker but yeah, pretty sure I need a fallout 12 stepper.

Thats fair. I wasn't diagnosing everyone with OCPD. I was simply stating that the symptoms they are describing do not match OCD behaviour, but sound more like OCPD behaviour.

Now I could be wrong but an example of OCD behaviour wouldn't be having to pick up every plastic spoon in the wastes. It would be something more like, not picking up the plastic spoon they found unless they knew where a second one was so they could have an even number of spoons.

Like you say these are gaming habits, not OCD.. and I don't understand why people call it OCD. Am I way out on left field on this? cuz when I read this thread, it feels like I must be taking crazy pills. :P

No and you are not alone. OCD is more of a compulsion to do something repetitively. Especially, with the knowledge of it already being done.

Like making sure the oven is turned off or the freezer door is closed properly. It's the extreme of double checking.

I agree with you. A completionist with a 'gotta-catch'em-all' mindset is OCPD.

I do collect and at least have a sweeping glance of the things to pick up..... weight allowance allowing it..... and try not to miss that bit of 'useless' something which later turns out to be significant, lamps toys and typewriters have useful parts. But maybe be I'm not looking hard enough... I've yet to find a bobblehead !

I have a theory that the whole land can be owned and under your full control, need some Robot Science there, maybe I'm getting too much 'into it' !!

Oh dear, I've become a completionist !!!

This could be because of the low default Field of View (90). I had the same problems, felt seasick after 1/2 hour max. After tweaking it to 110 with fallout configuration tool, it was waay better for me. Try it, I hope it works for you..

Sssooooooooo:

That is I. I do that.

Players are complaining this game is a FPS.

I know some of the important rpg elements (like skills) are be ripped off from the game.

I have a settlement to build and I don't have a requirement (this is for building) to share stuff between settlements.

I carry too much that I walk back. NO FAST TRAVEL.

I see the skills being very effectively encompassed now within the Perks.

Talking to everyone, for me, it's a must do, it really opens up the role-play and what could easily be missed from the game.

Defaults don't bother me, but my wife gets vertigo after about 20 to 30 minutes of playtime. Happened to her in Skyrim too.

And what really svcks about all this, what really, really, really svcks. I've put hundreds of hours of playthroughs in this game. Completed the main quest with every faction. AND I AM STILL FINDING NEW AREAS! Dammit! Come on now!

The last one was a bunker area below a settlement that had a hallway filled with litterally 1000 laser traps and mines. All guarding a bunch of useless crap and a stimpak. ROFL.

Great job Bethesda. I think I have spent more time playing Fallout 4 then I have any other non MMO game, ever.
