so! im a senior in high school! and i have absolutely NO idea what i want to do in life yet. seriously, not a clue whatsoever. im not particularly good at anything in school and gaming isnt something you can make money on, and my dilemma has made me curious on a few points....

*how did you find your passion in life, and when did you know it?

*did most of you actually know what you wanted to do in high school?

*what are hotdogs really made of?

I'm 38 and still have no clue what I want to do. Don't be so hard on yourself.

don't worry, my friend is 29 and he still has no clue what he wants to do..

and I am going to let you in on a secret, all those Highschool Students who "think" they have it all planned out, they actually don't.. they are going to try many things, and most of those plans they have today usually won't last for more than a year or two out of HS before they realize "you know, I don't really wanna do this"..

Me for example, when I left Highschool, I wanted to go get a history Degree.. little more than a year into University I thought "you know.. I really don't want to do this kinda thing for a living".. I than looked at my Hobbies, and noticed I loved Computers, so I went and got a degree in Information Technology

Care to guess how many of those plans actually come to fruition?

It's great to have goals and to prepare to meet them, but by the time you fulfill them you may want something completely different. it's perfectly OK to take your time and figure out what you really want. Be flexible, as people change and so will your goals.

Just try to get into a field that can actually make you money, unlike me. It doesn't have to be your favorite thing in the world, and it certainly doesn't have to be a lifelong career, but it'll give you the financial stability needed to experiment with hobbies, further schooling, etc.

Frankly, if a teenager tells you they know what they're going to do for the rest of their life, 9 times out of 10 you have the right to laugh in their face.

my only issue with that is one of my only hobbies is gaming, and id be a bit worried going into that industry because its really crowded, not to mention i have zero computer skills. its one of the reasons im really afraid to attempt an art degree, because i only just picked it up as a hobby and although i enjoy it, my lack of knowledge makes me too scared to go into it. i dont know if a degree of know how in the field is required for it, or they really do teach you from the ground up.

atm (at least, in Atlantic Canada) the IT field is extremely crowded.. its the reason I have had a hard time finding a new job since being laid off a few months back..

im sorry to hear that! i've always heard that the field was a very good way to make a lot of money fresh out of college, but it seems so did everyone else!

Yeah? I can almost guarantee that almost all of those people don't even get 1-2 years into their 20 year plan before things change. Stop focusing on the, "20 year plan".
