Chariots of Fire is one I'd recommend.

Wings of Desire, the original German film not the American remake.

Strictly Ballroom.

The recent film "Source Code". Just saw it yesterday and it's memorable.

Wall-E.

See what I'm saying? Those technicolor MGM 40's "motion pictures" are the ultimate feel good movies other then Pixar. Not all of them are exactly as good as Wizard Of Oz though :whistling:

The first time I saw The Great Dictator, I felt really great. (except for the cheesy ending) I love watching Monster House, it was amazing, even though many people call the concept of an alive house trying to eat three kids stupid. Dinner for Shmunks was hilarious, it put me in a good mood, but I'm always in a good mood.

MIRACLE!!!!

That movie brought me to tears.. being the worst historical film adaptation of a sporting event I ever saw. Real miracle on ice >>>>>>> Miracle.

There are some really great recommendations in this thread, I'm very interested in Almost Famous (can't believe I've never seen it). Also, just out of curiosity, what is so special about Spirited Away and the like? I've never really liked Anime, so I'm very hesitant to check out films like those. Anyway, please keep the recommendations coming, I have a long few weeks ahead me and these movies will surely help.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind?

EDIT: ^^^ I definitely don't like anime, but Spirited Away is just... Different and awesome. So is Ponyo.

Why not? Most are just animated whatevers. You can find something anyone might like. Unless they are some of those who harbour a grudge against anything remotely animated close to a Japanese style, because a Pokémon ate their dog or burned their mill or something...

Spoiler
How was it sad? The villain ended up getting what he deserved. The main characters, while they didn't stay with the original kid, got to go to a new home where they would be played with instead of being put off to the side in a box.

The Japanese movie "Shall We Dance" is worth renting. The American remake is okay, but the Japanese original is better.

Spoiler
the sad part is how bitter sweet the whole thing is. Leaving Andy, after all those years. Him ignoring them for a lot of it, finally really plays with them one last time before he leaves. Gives me chills just thinking about it. Lee Unkrich is a brilliant director.

I didn't think that was sad at all, I guess it just depends on your perspective .
