Feel like you've been ripped off? (PC) Cont'..

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 11:49 am

Continuing from the locked thread (in wrong place apparently) here: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1292372-feel-like-youve-been-ripped-off/
Several posters hitting the nail on the head regarding the PC version. In response to these I'd like to add 2 further questions:

Is this game really so groundbreaking that the sloppy console porting can be forgiven?
If the next patch does not address the sufficient bugs/issues, are you considering returning the game under warranty?
(assuming the patch arrives within that period).

Again please no rash posts. If the game is running fine for you, you're good. This thread is to assess the mood of those PC customers
experiencing severe problems with the game, and an opportunity for constructive criticism.

I am pleased with the game except for the horrendous UI. Mods are starting to address this SOME, but more needs to be in this regard. Even so, well worth my 60 bucks.

read the OP, no harsh responses. People are allowed to discuss and debate and your response is rude and flame bait. Let's keep it on topic. I would have to say I am irritated about the horrible transition. I don't care if they ported it to PC but they didn't do it very well. Having difficulties with dialogue options while dragons are attacking you is not fun. That being said I still love this game

I find the game unplayable(or annoying to the point of not wanting to play) due to the clunky and unresponsive controls.

I'm hoping a patch and modding can sort this mess out, otherwise Skyrim will join Oblivion in the darkness that is "under my bed".

Hundreds of hours of gameplay for $60. Most games at that price only gives you 20 hours of gameplay.

In terms of technical and face value, no it was not worth 60 bucks.

But the mods. Oh god. I can't wait.

Oscuros Oblivion Overhaul.
Fallout 3: Wanderers Editions
Fallout New Vegas: Project Nevada

The above mods/overhauls were so epic, I would pay 100$ for Skyrim just because I know an amazing overhaul will eventually pop up and make the game look, play, and feel 100x better than vanilla.
Sure, the console players get a better default experience, but in the end, the PC players get the last laugh.

When you try to select text through dialogue it doesn't always recognize your mouse position. Sometimes you have to literally move the mouse up and down while scrolling the wheel to "wiggle" it free as it gets stuck on particular text. When you try to put items in your chests or sell items to vendors it will constantly back you out of the menu system even though you have something selected. This especially happens a lot when trying to select "Misc" Those are just a few examples.

This is exactly the excuse beth is looking for to drop the pc format. Good job!

they wouldn't do that... are you serious? They know their PC fanbase is HUGE with mod support. They have also come to rely on modders. They put things out on consoles first to stay competitive and streamline things better for marketing.

I feel like this game was Bethesda's worst, the next one they better have EVERYTHING they had from Morrowind, including adding on clothing with armor and separate armor like spaulders because it WILL be on the next generation console which BETTER be able to hold all that stuff with the graphics and AI. In fact, this game was so stupid, 4 characters, Same thing, I wanted to play a thief, tried to join the thieves guild, oh wait, you have to do the stupid main questline for that or whatever, it isn't accessable right out of helgen.

I remember when you just had to do the intro then do whatever the hell you want, now everything is just do this and do that. armor is WAY to easy to get, some weapons are stupid....

Jesus and I'm playing on a CONSOLE. WITH NO MODS! So that makes it even worse! Hopefully the computer updates come so my bro can make his mods on it.

But you dont have to do any of the main quest to join the thieves guild. You can do whatever you want right out of helgen. Reported for trolling.

I don't even know what they were thinking with the UI. Completely unnecessary scrolling and they waste space like George W. Bush in the white house.

I have never played any game this much on release. And it's only going to get even more awesome once the CK is out.

Diablo 3 will probably be the only other title that will get as much play as I have with Skyrim this past week. :hubbahubba:

20 hours? Most games give less than 5 hours. What games have you been playing? :ahhh:

Personally i don't feel like i've been ripped off because Skyrim is far better than 90% of the game's in the market today.

That said, imo Bethesda could do far better, i consider Skyrim to be the worst TES game, if i exclude graphics animations and technical stuff etc which always evolve.

Conclusion : Even if it is the worst TES game (imo), it's one of the best games ever, so i can't really feel ripped off.

Did you turn off the the default 360 controller in the Gameplay options? It certainly made me, on the PC, click with fewer mistakes when I realized what their default setting was.

@hereske - what game are you playing? You don't have to do the main quest to do thieves guild. In fact, i was trying to avoid the thieves guild on my current characcter and got stuff to do that I had stuck in my journal to ignore.

I got a 360 controller to plug into a USB port, controls for me are not an issue. What I don't like is that by the time I hit lv30 the game becomes so unstable that I'm crashing ev ery 5-10 minutes. My computer runs the game on ultra high with 60fps no problem except for the inexplicable crashes.

Reporting for Trolling? How so, if I remember correctly I had to do that main quest to delphine then entering the Thalmor embassy then getting that Stone of barenziah then going off into an attached quest to get it checked out by vex, and by that I would have to get picked up by Brynwolf, and I have TRIED to go right out from Helgen to Riften and went straight to ragged flaggon, correct me if I'm wrong, Altmer goon.

While I recognise that there are minor bugs and flaws in this game, I don't feel like I've been ripped off at all.
Look at the state that other PC games are released in nowdays, in comparison Beth actually did pretty good quality control, even though many bugs still slipped through the net.

While it does irritate me that many PC games are being consolised with seemingly lazy and sloppy ports, I don't think Skyrim is as bad as all that.

For those who can't stand it, all I can suggest is to put the game away and play something else until a patch or modder sets up a good UI.

There are several things I don't like about the PC version.

1.) I can only have 8 favourites. That just isn't enough.
2.) Keybinds are pretty svcky, there aren't actually many keys that you can change stuff too and you often get 'this key is reserved'.
3.) Poisons are horrible. I don't want to have to go through 2 prompt windows everytime I apply a poison to an arrow tip, I wanna press the key and shoot.
4.) Going with steam was the biggest mistake they ever made.
5.) Random lag? I didn't pay this much money on a computer to get random lag on a game that uses half of the process space other games use.
6.) Unresponsive mouse movement for most dialog windows is bad.

That said, I can put up with the bad for the good. In playability I would rate this game extremely low, however for content I would rate this game extremely high. This is the first single player RPG that managed to get me to spend more than 10 hours playining its content so they must have done something right...

I don't feel I have been ripped off, however I do feel like I have been let down. I feel they set a deadline for the game and then released it too soon. I think that because they wanted to push it out there they didn't fix everything that needed to be fixed and with thanksgiving being so close after then we have to wait ages for a patch.
I have not been put off them, however I do hope they fix things.
