Feelings about easter eggs and game connections [spoilers]

I'll state this outright: this forum is being created so that I can get feedback from other fans of the Elder Scrolls, and use that feedback in an essay for college.

That being said. I'm an avid Elder Scrolls player, I practically grew up on Morrowind and Oblivion. As we all know, there are many, MANY different ways that the games tie themselves together. There are even some little extras that give us as gamers a little more insight into the games as we're playing. Take for example the death of Lucien Lachance in Oblivion. If you take the head of 'the real traitor's' mother, and then drop it after the initial interactions, you'll notice that he/she actually NOTICES. Now, this doesn't tie any of the games together, but it's one of the many little tidbits that happen to just make the game more satisfying for a long time fan. Completely in my opinion, of course.
Another example of this would be, and we're sticking with the Dark Brotherhood and Lucien, in Skyrim. When you complete one of the Dark Brotherhood quests, you get a spell that summons a spectral assassin. Now, at a passing glance, you might think, 'why the hell is that special?'. Well, it's because it's Lucien! He's still with you and serving the Night Mother- dead or alive (dead in this fifth installment).
There are also the obvious connections, like the history that refers back to past games, or even some of the readable books and tomes. In one of the the DLC packs for Skyrim (Dragonborn) you even get to travel to a little sliver of Morrowind territory.

I'd really, REALLY like your opinions. I'd like to hear what all of the other fans think about the connections and extra pieces that the game provides us players with. I mean only about parts of the game that are optional, and have no effect really on the main quest. DLC is open and ready for discussion, as well as any little thing that doesn't impact the main quest (reiterating).

Thank you so, SO much, and I really appreciate your time.

Easter Eggs, tie-ins between the books and the places or people you meet, and other such small insights into the culture and history of the game world are a big plus, by making the world seem more like a real place with a real past. On the other hand, I'd prefer better game mechanics, more varied interaction with NPCs, and something that resembles an actual economy, if I had to choose where to put the priorities.
