Fellglow Keep Key Bug

Post » Tue Jul 23, 2013 10:58 am

I picked up Skyrim: Legendary Edition during the Steam Summer Sale and I have to say I absolutely love it so far. That said I think I've encountered a bug and I can't figure out what to do about it. Here's my problem.

I decided not to bother with the main storyline yet when I made my first character. After escaping Helgen and travelling to Riverwood and being asked to speak to the Jarl of Whiterun I decided to do other stuff. I mean, someone mentioned a college just for mages and I was like, "Sign me up!" So I went to the College.

I ventured to Saarthal and found the orb and my professor was like "Um, go back and tell the Arch-mage to get his lazy butt here yesterday so he can see this." So I told the Arch-mage and he said read some books and Urag said go to Fellglow Keep and get his stolen books back. So I went to Fellglow Keep into the dungeon and here is where my problem is:

In the center of the dungeon I wasn't sure what the vampires where doing there so I killed them before proceeding to the next room. I mean, come on guys, vampires svck your blood, that's totally not cool. I kept a save here just in case that choice was a bad one. So I proceeded and cleared the rest of the dungeon and freed the captive mage after he told me his sob story. I know, I know, I'm a softy...unless your a vampire, then I kill you.

Anyway, none of the dead mages dropped the key that I need to proceed to the Caller's room. So I looked into this and I read that what I was supposed to do was pull the levers on the wall and free the vampires to attack the mages in the following room and "an extra mage would spawn" that was supposed to have the key. So I did 2 things.

First I waited 30 game days for the dungeon to respawn. I entered but the vampires in the cages did not respawn even though everything else did. After I cleared the dungeon a second time there was no key and I was still stuck. Second, I went back to my old save and freed the vampires. They attacked the mages in the next room, but the extra mage that was supposed to spawn who has the key, did not spawn.

Sooo, yeah...I has no key and I'm like 45+ hours of gameplay into my character (I was busy those 30 game days with side quests and exploring). I don't want to use the console command cause I want my achievements. Any ideas on how I can fix this are welcome, thanks.

Assuming you enter the keep through the unlocked door at the eastern end of the Fellglow Keep Dungeons, the first room you encounter holds a couple of mages ready to fight.

They may open the door to the next room and call for reinforcement (another mage). You will find a copy of the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Conjuration http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Skill_Books http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:The_Doors_of_Oblivion on a podium in the first room, as well as an unlocked chest.

A http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Shrines#Shrine_of_Talos lies on the floor next to a broken altar in front of a damaged statue of Talos. Also, there is a half-buried leveled sword to the left of the broken statue.

The passage continues to your left, leading to one of the key-locked doors to Fellglow Keep Dungeons, and a larger room with a group of mages and a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Familiar or http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Atronach.

This is a two-level room, with a set of stairs in the middle. You enter from the lower end, where you can also find a key-locked door to the outside, and a door to the living quarters of another pair of mages. Upstairs, you will find a door and two passages. The door is barred from the other side.

One passage (facing southwest) leads to a room with a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Workbench, an http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Alchemy_Labs, and an http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Arcane_Enchanters. The room also holds three http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Quicksilver_Ingot and an http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Unusual_Gem (related to the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:No_Stone_Unturned quest).

There is also a leveled, filled soul gem in the bookshelf in this room.

The other passage, facing northeast, leads to a library (Orthorn will warn you, if he is with you). One mage can be found in the center of this circular room, surrounded by bookshelves.

Most of the books in the library are http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Ruined_Book, but you can find a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Spell_Tome:_Sparks on a shelf on the opposite side of the way you entered the room, and a copy of the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Destruction skill book http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:A_Hypothetical_Treachery on a table in the center area, among others.

Follow the stairs out of the library to reach an L-shaped room with four doors. An atronach will be patrolling in front of the two doors farther from the side you enter the room, ready to attack you, and alerting a mage behind one of the doors (the second-closest to your entryway) in the process. The mage carries a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Fellglow_Keep_Key.

Isn't the key in the pocket of some npc sleeping in a room nearby, or am I making a confusion with another dungeon?

...continues

And after you get the key from the mage, or even from that sleeping guy (lol)

1. The first door closest to your entryway leads to a small living quarters with a chest.

2. The last two doors are next to each other.

  • The one on the right is locked, and beyond that another living quarters.

3. The last door from the L-shaped room opens to a set of curved stairs leading up to a couple of bookshelves, and a door to the Fellglow Keep Ritual Chamber.

That's the area you will facing The Caller actually.

She also possesses the 3 books that you require for the "Hitting the Book" quest that are located within this room.

GOOD LUCK !!!!!!

What about not spoiling the game for the op and letting him making his own discoveries?

You don't lose your achievements by using the console. Even then, saving and then reloading the game would clear any flags that would limit this.
