To My Fellow PS3 Owners Of Elder Scrolls Oblivion And Elder

Post » Mon Nov 28, 2011 2:38 pm

Hello, this topic is merely a complaint due to the seperation and exlusion the PS3 buyers recieved. Before I begin my point of this thread I would like say some things about this game. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion came avaiable for PS3 and that made me as a giddy as a school girl. I played for hours and hours each day with my Sorcerer (Mage) and my Gladiator (Warrior) characters named Dante and Kush. When I bought it I recieved Game Of The Year Edition so I didn't have to worry about not having Shivering Isles or Knights of the Nine (which I can purchase on the Playstation Network). The game itself is flawless and has been my favorite game since I first recieved it. To get to my point, my close friend, Ian, has The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for his Xbox 360 and he enjoys it just as much as I do. We would have daily conversations on our progress, our comical moments (Free Cheese For EVERYONE!), and our best battles. About a year later he brought his Xbox 360 over to my house to show me his Battlehorn Castle house DLC. At the time I had no idea it was DLC and just loved how amazing the place looked. I spent weeks trying to find out how to get it for my PS3, but sadly enough, it wasn't available for PS3. So I thought to myself, "Oh well, guess it's an exclusive for Xbox 360" but now I know it was for PC also. About 2 months later, and about 60 conversations later, we both decided to bring his Xbox 360 to my house again because he said he has another amazing house called Frostcrag Spire (thinking to myself, "Yippee! PS3!"). He told me that it's more of a mage type place on Mt. Everest. He showed me it's teleportations to get around the house, the Altar Of Spellmaking that it included and the beautiful Alchemy Garden. This time I remembered to ask if this was a DLC or included in-game. He told me it was a DLC but he didn't know whether or not this was available for PS3. So we immediately checked online and there was nothing about any housing DLCs for PS3 on The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion or Game Of The Year Edition. I felt dissapointed and confused. For days I kept wondering why doesn't PS3 recieve any of the housing DLCs but PC and Xbox 360 do? Of course I had an amazing time and still do have an amazing time playing my The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game Of The Year Edition on my PS3 but I get tired and bored of my small Skingrad house and wish for something much greater. I've always been strictly a Playstation gamer (i've tried Gamecube, Wii, Xbox, and Xbox 360 but the controllers never felt right when playing them). I'm not exactly sure why PC and Xbox 360 recieved this benefit and PS3 did not. But obviously as you can tell it bothered me and I REALLY hope that in the next The Elder Scrolls V: "Skyrim?", or maybe if Bethesda would be generous enough to ask to put those houses in the Playstation Store, that PS3 will be treated the same as other consoles and recieve the same benefits.

Because, my fellow PS3 user, whom pain we share, our beloved PS3 came out a year after the release after Oblivion, limiting it to merely a 'port' from the Xbox. Due to much cancelling of the PS3 the Bethesda Devs didn't have time to work on DLC on the new console; they where hard at work on Fallout 3 and the shivering isles.

As for TESV support, it is 101% guaranteed. Oblivion had it for Xbox/PC and Fallout 3, generally considered the sequel to Oblivion oddly, had it for Xbox, Ps3 and I'm unsure for the PC.

Could always get a PC. You can plug your Playstation pad straight in :shrug: I do it with my Xbox pad. The Playstation's keyboard addon works aswell.

@Hircine
Your missing my complaint, I'm a strict Playstation Gamer, not only that, using a PC would not fix my problem.

@TheLazyDumer
I know they couldn't have put the housing DLCs on the Playstation Network duing Fallout 3, but could they do it now?

@Daydark
I hate how Microsoft buys there way into anything they want... Microsoft has always been like that. I'm probably thinking when games like Fable came out Playstation said "Oh, yes our Playstation gamers would quite love an RPG such as Fable" then Microsoft pushed Playstation out of it's chair, sat straight down and said "How about we pay you one million dollars, and you make it an Xbox exclusive"

Since pretty much this game is imported from the Xbox version couldn't they just import the housing DLCs too? (wouldn't that take just about a week to do?) I mean they could easily do this in their offtime.

It's because PS3 came later. They had technical difficulties porting the DLC or something. svcks, but oh well :shrug:

I find it funny that I had much less glitches on Oblivion than Fallout 3 . Sure I don't mind that the tiny add-ons weren't on PSN . Shivering Isles and knights of the nine are good enough for me.

It's not a question of whether or not they could do it. The simple fact is that they moved on from Oblivion. If you really want to experience those mods then either get the PC version or the X360 version. Complaining about it isn't going to change anything.

I dunno...

I remember a few years ago, complaining a bunch on the xbox forums to make Morrowind GOTY playable on the Xbox 360. And then they did it.

They where out for the PS3? Well then, my good sir, you aint missing out on much. I have never been more annoyed with a game company than when I wasted my hard earned money on a couple of house mods I could have made myself, and a rubbish horse armour mod. Believe me, you're better off without them. Will save you the annoyance.

Hircine is sort of right, you aren't missing out on much. Frostcrag Spire was by far, probably the best DLC, but when you get right down to it, it's still just a house. I don't mean to bash Beth, but the DLC wasn't all that great. Sure you had these new elements that weren't present before in a game, or maybe there was this treasure or easter-egg hidden somewhere, but it wasn't really all that unique.

As for your strict PS3 gamer policy, I believe Oblivion is one game which may change that :wink_smile: go to youtube and type in 'best oblivion mods' or better yet, go to some of the mod websites such as tesnexus.com or oblivionsrealestate.com you'll soon see that you are missing out on much more than DLC my friend :disguise:

The only thing you were really missing out on was Mehrunes' Razor and that wasn't much. Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles were the ones worth buying and they're available for the PS3. The DLC probably didn't get ported because the PS3 release was an afterthought and Bethesda didn't think porting the DLC would be worth their time at that point. The next game will probably be released on the PS3 at the same time as the 360 and PC since the PS3 version of Oblivion was successful so the DLC for Elder Scrolls 5 will most likely be available for the PS3 too.

Fallout 3 DLC was on PC as well. Strangely, Bethesda released the DLC for the PS3 version much later than the 360 and PC versions. I'm not sure what the reason was there, but to be safe, I'm buying New Vegas on 360 and TESV on 360 (assuming I don't own a PC by then).

This, my friend. I'm fairly certain that, considering they made sure to release the DLC for FO3 on the PS3, they will do the same for TES V when it arrives. However, I do not quite get why a DLC pack like was available on PC (incl. everything but Shivering Isles and Battlehorn Castle) could not have been made for the PS3 users.

You do have my sympathy, though; the little DLCs are pretty cool. But at least you have GOTY and its two addons, right?
Also, here's to hoping that the GOTY for TES V follows Fallout 3 and includes all the DLC on the disc. :)

What do you mean when you say, "However, I do not quite get why a DLC pack like was available on PC (incl. everything but Shivering Isles and Battlehorn Castle) could not have been made for the PS3 users"? The game was released on PC at the same time as the 360 version, so of course the DLC would be available. Also, Fallout 3 GOTY Edition came with all of the DLC on the disc because there was no minor DLC. Everything was major and important. Although I don't understand why the little DLC couldn't be in the GOTY edition. Whatever the reason, it's no big deal.

I'm mainly a PC and PS3 gamer, but I have to say this: Sony does it too. If it wasn't for a little bit of exclusives, what would be the point of even having Sony or Microsoft?? They could just be one company like Microny or something. I wish they would do this sort of exclusive stuff more often. Kinda defeats the purpose of having two different companies products out in the market if they both do the same thing.

I understand that they are working towards the Elder Scrolls V, but that is still a long time away, there's not even confirmed information or even a confired name for it yet, I don't understand why they couldn't at least try to port Battlehorn Castle and Frostcrag Spire before getting really busy with Elder Scrolls V.

It doesn't exactly happen overnight. Takes a lot of work to port a game, even DLC.

Though I don't get why they don't just recreate them for the Playstation. Those mods can be made in a day, easily. And when they're a bunch of trained pros that do the stuff for a living. Surely it would even cost less?

But I stand by the fact that they're not worth it. I lost trust in Bethesda the day I bought Horse Armour. You should simply get a nice PC, any standard PC should run oblivion now, £200-300? Good investment, and not much more than a new console, amiright? Most mods out there are far better than official DLC, I promise you you'll enjoy the game more.

Oblivion was originally released for the PC and XBox 360, and was only later ported to the PS3. I do not know why they never released the DLC (other than KotN) for the PS3 but I'd speculate it's a combination of two factors: One, I believe Bethesda mentioned problems releasing Shivering Isles as a stand alone product, which is why it was only available in the GOTY edition. Presumably these problems would have also affected the DLC. Two, it's possible Bethesda was having difficulty getting all of the DLC to work properly along with Shivering Isles, and since they couldn't get it all to work they opted to go with the full expansion and the single large DLC (KotN) rather than all of the smaller DLC. It is possible that Microsoft had an exclusivity deal but I think that's unlikely given how much later the PS3 version was and the fact that the PS3 got the two largest additions.

Looking in to the future . . . well then I don't think TES IV is what you should be looking at. TES IV for the PS3 came out much later than for the XBox 360 and the PC, a delay I don't think we'll see in future games (and didn't see in FO3). The TES IV port was also handled by 4J Studios but now Bethesda does PS3 developement in house. Even the preferred size and structure of DLC has changed, almost every TES IV addition was a small DLC or its full expansion and Bethesda has since said they're not thrilled with either format.

The situation with FO3 may not be a better example either however. The DLC release for FO3 on the PS3 was overshadowed by the problems Bethesda had getting them all to run well, which delayed them substantially. Even with all of this extra time spent on them some people have problems getting them to work, particularly when using characters that do quite a lot individually (a problem that the original game seemed to have but it was harder to get to that point). I suppose it's possible that Bethesda's next game will have similar problems for the PS3 but hopefully not.

If you look at Bethesda's past few games their commitment to the playstation has been steadily growing. TES III wasn't released on the PS2 at all; Oblivion was ported by another company, released later, and didn't get the smaller DLC; Fallout 3 was developed for the PS3 in house, the basic original game wasn't released after the PC and XBox 360 version, all of the DLC were released (although with a significant delay), and Bethesda made greater use of the PSN. Hopefully this trend will continue :)
