Female Character DLC: A Girls-Eye View

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 10:09 pm

Although I can sort of see the difficulty with that as single-player-story-multi-player are virtually as one and the cinematics/story only contains male characters.

actually, if you have enough players, the cinematics are acted out by the players.

If we hit the 200-post mark without a flame war, I'll consider this a successful thread. :3 I've already met all the other criteria, which are soapboxes, external quotations, and a request to marry me because of my avatar <3

As far as the technological issues go, I understand. It's not the technology I'm lamenting, it's the choice to not include women even at the expense of some customization for the men.

Yeah, this will have been a succesful thread if you manage to keep it in check, Wande :P

I know what you mean, I thought this game guaranteed would include female characters when they boasted of alot of customization, but it was not - and not too sure of the sum of the customization, I know it's over 90 QU, but I for sure know some pieces will be picked over others 90% of the time, but anyways.. It should be enough so we don't see 2 look-alikes in a game :P

And yes, it's a weird choice not to include them now when we're coming closer and closer to gender equality(?), but as they said, they don't want half-assed characters, they want kick-ass characters - and cutting the customization in two would make them less kick-ass, and they said they also didn't have that much time, which I can't really add anything too.

But they did not want to make guys with briasts, and making the females to fit the hitbox is a difficult task apparently, and I can't judge them on that, making something look good and not weird-ass in a frame can be hard

IGN just leaves a bad taste in my mouth whenever someone mentions something by them.

Just because IGN is mainstream is bad doesnt mean its bad. :3

That said its reviews are almost constantly off-mark, I mainly use IGN to get my gaming news fix :3

Lol :P

We'll have to imagine that the children and women are hiding in containers, suites and whatever to go unharmed, or well.. Try to

NO CHILDREN AND NO WOMEN? NO FUTURE - We can even narrow it down to NO WOMEN? NO FUTURE

Anyways.. Just imagine they're somewhere else in their own group or scattered out in their homes, the war is for the men :l

I don't mean [censored] with this, but if this is mankind on the edge of extinction, I think it'd be better to let men die and women live

Not letting the women in a dystopian future fight is a quick way to get killed, you know. I guarantee there are women in the Resistance that fight for their cause, even if women aren't allowed to enlist in the Security forces or something...

Letting women live is a good way to repopulate the surface once danger is over, ya digs? :P

And yeah.. Probably there are women fighting in the Resistance, so.. Maybe we can pretend they're on a SpecOps mission to kill the women hiding in the Security quarters? :shifty:

It's nigh-impossible for me to be a gamer without being labeled immediately a "girl gamer," rather than just a "gamer," and to be frank it can be pretty frustrating.

It might be easier if you don't mention you're a girl in the first few sentences. Are you somehow forced to use a feminine nickname or keep mentioning to people that you're a girl?

I can sort of understand that it's frustrating, but why does it have to be an issue. If you just play the game, no one will ever know you're a woman, except if you use a mic I guess. And as already mentioned, SD would have liked to have female characters, but it would have been too much work to get it done in time.

I love this thread to death. It's sorta my baby, and I'm so proud of the discourse. We brought up some good issues, and it has been a good topic.

Sadly, I have to go :< Hope to see you all online tomorrow! :3

Is this a good time to talk about how the Y chromosome is disappearing and we are evolving into a species without a male component?

No? Carry on......................

The briasts usually tip people off. This isn't an issue that only exists online. As I mentioned in my post, I work for a technology retailer. I get this double-standard all day long.

I sort of mean that in the single-player it's all males. I suppose you be the only female character in the story but then that'd be odd.

Either we're eventually gonna die becuase something thought it was a good idea to kill off guys from the chart, or make them ''rare''

Or women are gonna evolve dikes :l

So people assume you don't know about games or are bad at games? Show them that you do by talking eloquently about them or if you're on a LAN, play well... I still don't see what the problem is. It's not like everyone assumes that a man with an id software t-shirt is a pro gamer.

It is an understandable attitude that one is surprised to see a woman passionate about games unless you travel to public events a lot. However, if they clearly disregard your opinions or, as you said, ask for a "man who knows more about shooters" then they are indeed being bigoted. Not much you can do about it, people are stupid, but you can always prove them wrong with your actions.

I know I said I was leaving, but I can wait as long as there's good talk here :3

Basically, I don't want to have to prove anything. There's no reason this stereotype should still exist and it falls to those of us with the means to challenge it to do so.
As far as talking eloquently, well...that's what this thread has been, hasn't it? :3

i see threads everywhere about there being no females, tbh im not that bothered, yes im a male gamer n i get to play male characters but i also played games like tomb raider where it was just a female. As long as what im playing is good! and im having fun then the character gender doesnt bother me.

CoD unfortunately and apparently is a successful game that way too many people like, yet i havent seen anyone ask for female characters?

not trying to flame or have a dig at anyone im just saying my opinion n that i dont really mind what gender my character is.

I've played with some very thoughtful girl gamers. I'd say they are more the rule than the exception. I've never been Leeroy Jenkins'ed by one, and I've never had one offer to skull .... my mother.

I can't understand why anyone wouldn't want more of them around.

I think most want female models in games, you'll find no argument from me on that.

But the industry is men-run, especially in FPS'. I've never played with a talented female gamer in any FPS I've ever played.

It's not flaming or digging at all! I support your opinion. This thread is intended to make a point that a lot of us do care about the choice of avatar in a game like this.

I don't think I've seen anyone yet that doesn't want them

But anyways.. Do you mean guys play more aggressive than girls? :P

And I think some of curse more and cuss eachother out more than girls becuase we got testosterone pumping :<

EDIT: I don't cuss out people, but when I talk on the mic I may curse now and then, and as a joke maybe cuss out someone if they do the same :P
