Female Character DLC: A Girls-Eye View

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 4:12 pm

Ok picture this.
A female model is hiding behind a wall - but with my eyes (eyes that were made to look at girls as it's highest priority) will see an ass popping out of the wall.
Then I will shoot that ass with bullets or whatnot, then female will cry 'oh we have a big ass'
then same thing happens but the boobs were the one out of place this time 'oh we have size double D's make it A cups!'

Might as well just have a light body guy with a mask and your voice over VoIP.
Just saying - no point for (I shouldn't say this) 'waste' time on making new models and whatnot.

Considering the bagginess of most of the clothing options in Brink I don't think it'd be so much an issue of size as one of shape. Either way I will be making a light body guy, but screw masks. I want to show my ugly rugby player to the world. :3

Also you wish you had my cooking :P

Well they better give them big boobs and ass.
Not too big - I want natural looks. LOL
Yea it's early in the morning over here so don't take me seriously.

And let SD decide for woman characters.
^_^

Since it's the 200th post I'll use colours! Yeah, I kinda got you were in the joking-stance :p

And if anything, yes.. They should do it

It was a nice thread

Thank you everyone for taking this thread past 200 posts while staying focused, mature, and on-topic :D

I hope it was as much fun for you as it was for me, and I hope we all take some new viewpoints away from this ^_^

See you online~

To be perfectly honest I just don't know how they could pull off a Heavy Female without offending women or just making it look way too hilarious for it too even be allowed in the game.

actually heavy female look can be easily found in real-life. just check female powerlifters or weightlifters.

There are plenty of games that have used similar textures/items that you can place on either gender with subtle differences. I think the customisation numbers have been exaggerated as well, I don't think there are an awful lot of choices for Brink. A list of jackets for example just about fills up the screen (am I right?) and the colour choices are limited as well. It can't have been all that complicated to double that with slight alterations to fit female characters in two years development..?

As for voice packs, there are only eight to choose from. Eight female voices to record the same repetitive lines during combat wouldn't be that difficult either. I've watched several gameplay vids and trailers and have probably heard every possible comment each of the eight actors make.

I don't think that was ever out of SD's reach.

Modeling takes a lot longer than that, and would you really want Splash-Damage to half-ass the female customization, that's just as bad as not including it imho.
If they were doing females they wanted to do it right, and time and money did just not allow. Mostly Im sad they wont be available in a dlc, a file like that would just be to big if it matches the size of the male animations and customizations. The one good thing is that a dev said that females would be a main concern for a Brink 2 if there happens to be one.

I'm not trying to criticise Splash Damage really. I think and hope they've done a fantastic job from the art direction to the whole ethos of the title.

It's just unfortunate that they left out the females and I've always been surprised that they did. If I didn't game with girls or have a sister who games with me then I probably wouldn't look into this too much, but I can see how it's a missing element for a lot more gamers than people would think. I'm not a computer game programmer or whatever the most suitable title is, but I'm surprised that the addition of female characters would be so "complicated" as some have suggested.

Anyway, it's been a good read (for most part) throughout this thread and some good points have been discussed. I guess the lady gamers could always go for a light-build, long hair and a mask to hide the ugly masculine faces, hehe..

Oh aye, forgot about the voice. Just pretend you're Jodie Foster. ;)

I can't see it being DLC either and hopefully the game is successful enough for there to be a sequel.

I don't personally see my self getting into this one until there is a female option. It totes customization as a huge deal. So you can't say that hey 'it's fps bugger off'. It looks like an amazing game really. Just missing that niche to pull me all the way in. So. When I get wind of DLC including female models I'll probably pick it up. Silly it may seem but.. when I hear 'customize' I think both genders. And I tend to get bored piecing together males in the character creation screen. I want to be able to put a lot of time into the game if I do get it. Back to Oblivion and COD for now. But I am watching you. And I agree with OP suggestions. However..

Heavy model doesn't have to = fat
Light model doesn't have to = floozy
And who says that either has to be ugly or a charmer respectively?

I want a face to die for on my heavy and a face to run from on my light. Just sayin'.

im inclined to agree with the idea of female character dlc option, those who want it can have it, those that dont can leave it, is it truly going to limit customization that much? i do understand that they cant just transfer the "male wardrobe" over to female, otherwise we would all have our lol with the "nothing" top option, but surely there is something to offer in this line? i doubt that the ark (being as super modern and highly populated as it is) is 100% male dominated, its even a woman who introduces you at the start...this idea of female characters (along with new weapon skins and wider clothing range) has been all up in the air since day 1. why dont we all take a step back, appreciate a good game and let the released products dust settle before we start laying our demands and wants at the feet of bethesda and splash damage. they worked damn hard to bring us a fine mp based game like brink and deserve a bit of a break, i doubt even they approved 100% of the femme fatal-less society that the ark has at this stage.

One of the greatest features of a game that supports such detailed character creation, is its ability to unify the audience...

How many times have you found yourself creating a character that bares a striking, physical and/ or style, resemblance to yourself? As a means of relaxation/ an escape from the everyday, we create digital representations of ourselves and thrust them into extreme situations. Much like in our everyday lives, we'll find ourselves teaming up with characters that, also, reflect aspects of ourselves. We'll form friendships in the way of teams/ clans, where we'll challenge others to any number of extreme situations... we'll stand united within our teams, which unifies the community as a whole.

When a game that supports such detailed character creation comes along and, in a sense, excludes an ever growing portion of the gaming community it can take away from the overall gaming experience for some. I know there have been a couple of articles that have eluded to different reasons as to why the female form was not included in the initial release of the game, some of them were; design issues/ aesthetics, focusing on presenting the best possible version of the game at release, and another was simply providing the community with what we wanted... whatever the reasons, I can only imagine that in the coming months we'll see a download working it's way down the pipeline that'll provide the community with the ability to create truly unique female characters that'll represent the growing community...

Totally agree that female characters would be fun. Because everything is doubled as far as custimization, I can see why SD focused on just men because if you add woman characters, you would have 4 sets of character options. Thats a lot more work. DLC is going to be Epic for this game. I can't wait until we can get more stuff. Mo Mo Mo!

Yes after females make it into Brink I am going to spam threads requesting that we can mix and match boy/girl parts because the hermaphradite/ trans-gendered demographic is severely under represented in video games today.
