no female characters = no purchase

the only point of this post seems to be to complain.

Complaining can be important.

the last few hours i was checking up on reviews and youtube videos of this game in anticipation of purchasing it tomorrow, after sitting through the developers talking about how there is all these different options and customization in the game only to find out you can't even be a female character... got to be kidding me? seriously? how can you, with a straight face talk about options and customization when you can't even be the other gender out of 2.

as a guy who only plays female characters (i will play a guy character in very rare circumstances) in games you have lost a sale.
i refuse to support anyone who would not put the option for a female character in a game, which should be one of the first things you do... i tell you this to let you know you won't get my cash and for you to think next time when you are creating a game to actually include real options and customizations and not some poser attempt at it.

before some people say "it's not a big deal", well maybe to you it isn't but it's a big deal to some others.
and if you think "who cares about 1 purchase?".. i guess it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, it's not an attitude i would adopt as a game maker however to think a sale doesn't matter.

anyways, good day.
enjoy your game tomorrow.

there is a legit reason to complain, being that this is a game which has thrown around the keywords of "options" and "customization" all across interviews, which is something not to take lightly when considering purchasing a game for 50 dollars.

i can't stand guys, can't stand their forms, their builds, the way they look in games and wouldn't enjoy my time with the game nearly as much as if it had the ability to have a female character.
so it's a pretty big issue to complain about.. if it comes down to buying the game or not buying it.

i'm saying don't go around saying you have options and customizations as a feature when you don't even have the very basis of it.
very misleading.

I only find these threads funny because I talked to a girl gamer a bit ago who hates this kind of mentality, I can understand your point but not buying a game and posting a rant on the publishers site is going to make things right. If you had done extensive research you would have known to

1. Support a game with great gameplay regardless of customization
2. Enjoy when Brink 2 comes out due to high player support and has female character because devs have stated female characters will be a big focus if there is a Brink 2.

Obviously as a male I cant really understand but as a person when I REALLY want something done I usually compromise.

Edit:
You also need to understand that these people made the best game they could, maybe you want to work 14 hours a day in order to add females and double the customization and animations. And last I checked you can only complain about a game when they are very misleading. When I found out they had no females I thought, huh that makes sense they have a relatively small developer team and spend most of their time on balancing.

If you are a guy, why do you like playing female characters?...
I'm legitimately curious, I don't mean this to be an insult

I'm a guy and I enjoy playing as a girl in games because of the alternate dialogue some charecters say (like in Mass Effect, and some other RPGs). However this is not an RPG and so does not matter. I play as a guy in games that give you the choice to be a guy or girl, but I try to make at least one playthrough as a girl for the aforementioned reason. But like I said in this game it's not that big of a deal, and I understand the reasons why the devs decided not to have girls in the game.

Yeah, I like looking at girls too, but it's not like it matters! It's an FPS for Pete's sake...It's not like your going to get a rear view of your character. And why would you spend time looking at your enemies and teammates? They're most likely going to be dead in a couple seconds anyways...

This really worries me. People are worried about such minor aesthetics in a damn FPS game. Come one people, Really? You're choosing not to buy an FPS game because there are no females? No words can describe the level of fail that is being reached.

probably because i've never really seen gaming from the perspective of it's me within the game like i know some other people adopt.

i've always viewed it as picking the main character in my journey not really related to myself, and with that i like females an infinite amount more than males, i mean why would i want to sit around customizing a guy and changing his appearance and putting clothes on him, when i could do that with a girl? it makes no sense to me.. i have no interest in the male form or males in general.

i generally read only female hero comic books as well, and i mainly listen to female vocalists in my music.

Its a fps.All you're gonna see is your hands and gun through most of the gameplay.Every once in awhile you will see yourself in 3rd person, like when hacking or planting.

Also from the second sentence in this post it looks like you are hidden really deep in the closet and are just afraid to admit it.

Fair to say you dont want to buy this but understand.

for the few hundred people who don't want to buy this because they can't play a female model.... Think of the amount of time modeling and programing that goes into making another type.

I would safly say it would cost the company 4x more $$ to add these features then it would be in lost revenue for people who will not buy because of missing.

SD said it would have been to much programing to accommodate female characters and cost more time. So they took the chance of losing that 3% of female die-hard players of gaming in order to keep the game on coarse for game release.

post 2 - By the way if you don't like a game, just don't play it. Especially if it's over some [censored] like this. Seriously, are you so terribly starved for attention you have to go to an online forum and cause problems just to get a little acknowledgement?

^^-- This

Honestly, I've lurked here for all of 3 hours total, and even I know that this topic has been hashed, re-hashed, buried, revived, light on fire, buried again, dug up, drawn-and-quartered, and then stuffed into dead horse in order to beat it...

The fact is that Splash-Damage decided (as well as Bethesda) that the time/money/resources/manpower used to create an additional set of customizable content for female avatars would:

1) Take away from time spent polishing the game to perfection;
2) Be done half-assed and not look good at all; and
3) Not be worth it in the end.

There have been rumors/talks of including females as a central role in Brink 2 (if sales would support a sequel).

OH MY GOD THERE IS NO FEMALE CHARACTERS!!!! WTF AM I GOING TO DO!!!! WITHOUT WOMEN IN MY LIFE IT IS A COMPLETE WASTE!!!! DOWN WITH ALL YOU WOMEN HATING MONGRELS!! AAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!

Jesus christ, chill out man. There are many games that don't have female's as the protagonist, COD, MW, BF. it is safe to assume the majority of current FPS's do not have females as playable characters, but go ahead and don't purchase BRINK. Not sad to say I never knew ya.

that's not the point, my character will still be a male and that is unacceptable in this day and age in a game that talks up how many options and what kind of customization they have available.

so i go to make a character and i can't even have a female character as my choice? UNACCEPTABLE.

to use other popular games as an example is not really an option because most of those games don't claim to have alot of options or customization the way this game does.

unacceptable on so many levels.
