Female gamers want female characters (yesh, I read the FAQ)

Well, for everyone reading this thread, not all girls care, my girlfriend, her sister and many other woman i know dont care.

Although it sounds like a good idea, imagine a heavy female...it would look a little funny. Also every girl ive asked would rather all the clothing options on guys rather than half with both males and females

LOL, well, my post wasn't meant to sound absolute and include every female gamer in the world, you know ;).

However, if we want to tackle it like that, I have several friends that usually prefer to play female characters rather than male one ;).

I DO understand the viewpoint of developers and that's exactly why I suggested a DLC to be released later on and even for a price.
Implementing females means additional meshes and textures that have to look and work just right.

I don't honestly see what's the problem in having heavy females if heavy males are implemented. I personally prefer slender, athletic types but I don't think an heavy female would look any funnier than a male... (if they look funny at all which I don't think)

Firstly; If the OP is Aery Soul, (as name and avatar suggest), I'm a huge fan of your 3D art skills, if there is ever a facility for player created art assets in this game it'll be the envy of all.

Hey! Well, indeed (half of it actually ;)) and thanks a lot!!!! :)

If they won't put in actual female models, at least have the option to wear female clothes no matter how ridiculous that sounds.

I'd like my light male character to wear a leotard and tutu.

Well I do hope Splash Damage does make female characters in their next game though. It would be a shame if they didn't. I remember something like this came up when ETQW was in development, and a lot of gamers who wanted female characters hoped that they would do it for their next game, namely Brink, but it is too bad though. Oh well, better to have the female models done right rather than what you see in the Elder Scrolls and Fallout 3, where they don't look or walk like women.

Well I have a challenge for Splash Damage. Make at least one game with playable female characters, before a company name change, or before the company goes out of business.

I don't think so because it's weird if a huge guy with a shogun blows a hole through a woman's stomach. No sixism intended!

First and foremost lol, second of all, is one of the dwindling resources on this island of 50k women? how do they keep breeding.

They will probably release extra content in the future that may or may not include female models. For now, they won't be any so their is not a point of a discussing it. I know a lot of people may prefer female models or male, a lot who wouldn't be opposed to it, and a lot of people that may just not want them. Whoever, people are forgetting about one other group a people. Their may be people that would be opposed to the idea of shooting at a woman. People should really think about all the parties involved.

A quick note, this is not a forbidden topic. Yes we have had needed to lock several threads on this subject because people couldn't discuss it civilly but so far this discussion is doing relatively well so there's no need to dismiss it.

If someone isn't interested in discussing the matter there's no need for them to reply to the thread.

Several posts have been deleted.

they would have to be bigger women, so that their sizes could match up, not fair to have the woman be a smaller target

either that or they balance them with another weapons layout or other specialisations.
I mean why not have noticable differences between male and female chars?
That would solve most of the smaller problems, but would also add a lot of extra work... making the main problem even worse. >.<

The hitbox would potentially be a lot different and give those playing as females a distinct advantage.

All Points Bulletin has the same hitbox for every character, regardless of height and weight. However, that does lead to odd situations quite regularly (e.g. shooting someone "through a wall", meaning "hitting his hitbox, but not his avatar").

Also, doesn't the latest Gears of War game have female characters, which are designed to look tough, to make them fit into the game? I don't think heavy females would be very common, still.

Personally I don't care if Women characters are involved in the game. It makes sense that women would be fighting in a situation like this. Now if this were a more realistic Modern Warfare/Bad Company/Ect. type game I would be against it. But in Borderlands I played as Siren and greatly enjoyed it.

I really love the idea of character customization in Brink. It's too bad that they aren't able to put in female characters in the main game, but I certainly won't be opposed to a Brink DLC or an expansion that features a full set of customizable female avatars... :)

I would totally love the idea of a female character DLC if it was at all possible. I think SD had to make a tough choice when it came down to female characters, so maybe a DLC might happen. I would love to add some female characters to my 16 character slots.

Females would have a distinct disadvantage if you were shooting at them from the side :P

Anyways, in order of priority, I would rather have resources put into making brink have a long lifespan by improving gameplay, optimizing the game, add more maps and add features before they tackle the challenge of intergrating female models in a competitive shooter up to the standard of the rest of the game.

Honestly, how would you draw a women so that her silhouette is the same as a man? It has to be the same or else one model would be an easier or harder target to hit and if hit boxes are adjusted to the model, that would make it unfair. How do you take that and make that silhouette look like a women, especially for the heavy body type? At what level of quality do you end up with? If you really want female models, solve those questions and email splash damage so they can put them in brink 2.

Maybe SD could go with the TF2 kinda huge update events, and since those are free a lot of new people buy the game once they are announced...... then again they'd have to do that for Xbox 360 and PS3. I don't have a PS3 so I don't know how their updates work but I heard that the 360 has a lot of rules about updates.

I am a boy, yet i totally agree with this. Considering BRINK is heavily based on customization, female characters almost seem mandatory! It would most likely add a wider spectrum to interested game players. Love BRINK. Can't wait for it either way.

Developers said it was impossible RIGHT NOW to implement female characters because they don't want to see women with the same running/stance/walking animation as men characters in their games. And it takes a lot of space because it would almost double the content size of the game for animations, voices, etc.

Kind of like the Krogan maybe? Women are a precious resource maybe. There is a population boom so maybe that doesn't make sense after all.

imagine that as the same size as the heavy type guy in the trailer. Matching the torsos just wouldn't work imo, therefore making 1 model easier or harder to hit than the other.

The devs did mention that hit boxes would complicate matters but I also believe they said they'd largely figured out how to balance this. In the end the primary reason we aren't seeing women isn't hit boxes it's considerable amount of time it would take to do all of the artwork and animation.

I wouldn't mind female characters. But I am going to say that for example if the game only had female characters and no males I wouldn't really mind. Well, actually... I think the female heavy characters would probably look just gross so maybe no.

But Helga's hitboxes would still be harder to hit than that of your average fat male heavy. She's really more of a beefy medium.

Think of http://ui25.gamespot.com/1592/teamfortress2heavy_2.jpg except with pigtails. That'd be more balanced.

Well it's not that bigger girls wouldn't be pretty, but have you ever seen a fat male in a shooter game?
It's simply that chubby characters don't really fit a game where the emphasis lays on jumping and running arround like crazy. (I don't expect heavies to stay arround and let themselfs be shot at.)

+as allready said girls tend to be smaller in general, so you'd have to find a solution for that as well if you want equal sized avatars.

Maybe for Brink 2, 4 body types, where it is extra light, light, medium, and heavy, where females cannot be heavy, and males cannot be extra light. As for what weapons extra light could use, just pistols.
