Female Greybeards?

Post » Thu Aug 30, 2012 8:55 am

Because, c'mon forum, I refuse to believe that the Greybeards didn't accept ladies who had potential in the Voice. The only problem is the whole 'beard' thing -- speculations and monkeytruth, anyone?

Wait, woah. Wait.

Borri's a man?

To say, it's a title. Or that women thought of nicer things to do; or perhaps, men found nicer things to for women to do

Sure, sure.

You can have beards elsewhere than your face.

Well, they're a monastic order, so they're probably concerned about the temptations of the flesh distracting them from serving the gods. More than likely, I bet there is a female "greybeard" or two out there. Just not on High Hrothgar. They're probably hermits or possibly friars. That is, they probably either live alone and meditate or live their life among the people (unnoticed for what they are) and doing good works in the name of the gods.

Now if only there was a brave soul who'd make a "join the greybeards" or a "way of the voice" expansion...

If there are female greybeards I am curious as to what the beard refers to on a woman - Don't answer that  , lol

Seriously though, I don't think there are any. To much temptation.

No, it really isn't. Men are actually responsible for their own actions.

No, it really isn't. Men are actually responsible for their own actions.

Yet there are many who refuse to acknowledge this truth.

This is not to defend such a position, merely to point out that there are those who would take it.

Can't see any reason why not, save Fiore's suggestion of being distracted from shouting at the sky all day long.

Maybe those old coots are trying to like in celibacy? Maybe the word of Jorgen Stormcaller was to never touch a woman when walking the way of the voice.
Or maybe they just felt lazy and didn't want to bother with people raging over there being female Greybeards.

I came here to make a funny comment then realized the absurdity, I apologise for that which I might have said.

Inversion of the Ansu-Gurlet, in which the women become men.

I do really hope celibacy is a side-effect and not an actual requirement of being a Greybeard. :(

I would guess that the total mental and physical discipline the thu'um requires would exclude such relationships.

Why is this so surprising? A number of RL religions have celibate monastics, and consider celibacy a positive discipline.
