Female Hair?

Post » Thu Aug 11, 2011 5:27 am

Just wanted to see what your opinions were on what kind of length options for hairstyles we will have for female characters in Skyrim?

In previous TES games, and also Fallout games, there really wasn't/isn't much of a choice in longer hairstyles for female characters. I don't really mind having to pick a shoulder-length hairstyle, they look pretty nice from the screenshots I've seen, but it would still be nice to be able to choose a long hairstyle that matches my own. (I'm a console user - so, no mods for me)

What do you guys think?

You mean like, down to your ankles blue hair so you can name your cute female "Chidori"?

Hope not.

Hell no. :|

It would just be nice to have more options for female hairstyles. I don't really mind, though.

Considering they're on dated hardware and not able to have hair physics, tessellation, etc, odds are there won't be long hairstyles due to their tendency to clip through the back of armour.

Just saying.

This. In this instance, it'd look either glued to the character's back, or floating as one big hair chunk behind the character. Either way, clipping issues (armor) with the 'glued' hair, or awkward movement with the 'floating' hair.

Well my guess is that the hair is going to look bad. Sorry Beth but it was always true in TES. But I hope that we'll have a good verity of it at least - than there should be something tolerable for the first run :)
If you want log hair - just select a bun - it stands to logic that a woman would tie her hair back to get it out of the way when she goes hiking and dragon hunting :)

Without proper hair physics, this would just lead to clipping and it generally looking shoddy. So I'm glad about well-made short hair styles.

Yeah, I figured that was always the reason for no long hair. Just thought they might've somehow managed to add slightly longer hair. No biggie, though. Thanks.

Shoulder Length is probably the longest that it will be and that's perfectly fine by me.

Well i am not sure, but if you take a close look at this screenshot, then it looks like the hair is actually bent a bit..right into the direction she is looking. Couldnt this be the hair physics we have been missing since the days of Morrowind ? ;) It also looks a bit like parts of the hair is clipping through the armor though..

I just hope they give us a ton of nice hairstyles...as i somewhat doubt Ren′s Hairstyles for instance would still look good in this game..a bit too outdated maybe..

As long as they have more options than oblivion. The only one i used was the elven one with the hair pins in it, the others just looked awful IMO

Yeah, I agree. The options in Oblivion were terrible. No doubt, regardless of length, the options in Skyrim will look exceptionally better. :)

not having long hair in TES and ME actualy makes sense though. Long hair is very distinct disadvantage when in combat, most armies both past and present made so that you either had no hair, short hair, or if you had long hair you would put in a bun. Long hair can and offen goes by the rule of cool, but then sometimes the rule of practicallity trumps it

re: clipping....

Yeah, even when I have OB & FO3 hair mod super packs installed that have all sorts of crazy long hairdos, I tend not to use them. The insane clipping just gets on my nerves.

If long hair was such a problem when fighting in ancient times most of the nations would have died out - haircuts are a modern invention you know... ME and TES are two very different things - hair in the face when you are shooting, and in a world where haircuts are a norm is one thing, long hair in pseudo historical environment - completely different, you don't need a perfect aim to hit someone with a sword :D
Oh, and additionally - medium length hair - that is over the shoulder, but longish is the one that gets in the face the most, the actual long hair are to heavy to float around, and don't get blown in your face. I had both cuts, and waist long hair get in the way far less than a bob cut.

In Mass Effect, yes. But in TES you are whoever you want to be, if you want your character to have long hair you should be able to.

Heh. I thought I was the only one who installed hair mods only to use one of the vanilla cuts. Clipping, not fitting the head properly, just not matching the game stylistically tend to make the vanilla styles look not so bad after all.
