Female HighElf body texture problem

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 7:19 pm

Hi all,
I am trying to adjust face and body textures to make them look more seamless, but there seems to be some problem with female HighElf.
Whenever I load the game which I finished adjustment and saved before, the body color tune would distort and become yellowish.

The color tune will return normal by using 'showracemenu' command to change character's age or complexion.

However, the color distortion affects all female HighElf NPC, so I can't ignored it.
I wonder whether there are any solutions?
This problem only occurs on female HighElf, and I am considering to replace HighElf with other race via OBSE if there are no ways to solve it.

Her face is yellow, so her body is yellow.

That is how it is supposed to work, and High elves are intended to be that yellow hue.

I see you are using custom face and ear models, as well as custom body textures.

Can we have a mod list so someone can see exactly how all those interact, please?

Thanks for reply.
I know High Elves are supposed to be yellow, but it's not the point.
The problem is that when I create a High Elf character, the female's body color tune will distort after loading a saved game, while male's won't.
Other races won't have the same problem, so I think it's nothing to do with custom models or textures.

That High Eleves are supposed to be yellow is exactly the point - look at her neck, it's yellow and so are her shoulders. The game engine is doing exactly what it is supposed to do, matching the textures. If you had a male high elf and gave him a black beard his skin down to his toes would turn black which is why you never see bearded characters topless or in short sleeves without gloves.

Can you show us a picture of what she actually looks like in game please? A fairly close shot showing her face and neck would be ideal, and if you could provide a comparison with a male.

Aslo, what texture replacers are you using, and what head/body mods? All those can affect the way skin tint displays in game.

Ultimately though, if you want a non-Yellow High Eft you will either need to find that colour balance for the face, or you will need to apply a patch esp that makes all high elves less yellow.

I have found the cause of the problem.
There are two Skin Tint settings: Orange/Blue and Purple/Yellow.
High Elf is set extremely Orange and Yellow, while these two colors are opposite in game settings.
The extreme opposite color settings of my female body model will be automatically adjusted in character-making menu for some reason.
Furthermore, the Skin Flushed/Pale setting will mess up body color in loaded game, so it had better to be set 0. (High Elf has a high value originally)
I will change the color of female High Elf textures to be yellowish directly.
Thanks!

It's not the texture you need to change, it's the settings via an esp file.

As I said, as far as I can tell the engine is matching up the face/body very well once you exit character creation.

One thing you don't want is a face texture with a different hue to the body texture as the game will try to adjust the facegensettings to match the two and it will go all squiffy because it doesn't actually know what colour your textures are.

As I said, body hue is determined by face hue you select in-game.

Ok... I guess i finally found the key point.
It's caused by bFaceGenTexturing attribute in Oblivion.ini
When the value is set to 1, the face and body color status will be messed up a little when loading a game.
It's not apparent so some players may over look that.
It not only causes mismatch colors of face and body but also causes seams on back, wrist, ankle, thigh, and leg when using nvde body replacer.

Well, if you feel that fixes your problem, but I have to say - I still don't think the game had one to begin with. So far as I know, the attribute you mention just alters the colour balence of the of body texture to match the face as best as possible, which is not perfect.
