female

While there no female characters. I have to wonder if that what the ark is. A place where all the remaining female as frozen. The game is suppost to be about humanity dieing out. What is the biggest threat to humanity. The lost of reproduction. Do not hate me when I say this but the 3 most import things for humanity to live is. Food Water and women. Remove one of these 3 elements and humanity stops. So it would make more sence for people fighting over the ark if it one of these there elements. Sence the ark is over the ocean. Water is not one of the things they could be battling over. Sence water can be purified. Has to be ether food or women. Lack of playable characters. Would make me belive that the ark is full of women sence it that last hope of humanity.

Sure it is, since the ocean is salt water - not drinkable. If they have no way to desalinate the water, water is still a big concern. Remember, the Ark has lost contact for around 20 years. There's a big chance that any desalination plants they may have had, are not in working order.

Would have been nice to be able to find this thread without having to search for it for like... I dunno, 2 hours now.... Need to make it like maybe a top locked thread so noobs like me to the forum aren't asking repeditive questions. Anyways. I half agree with half of what was said. Ok no matter what there will be pervs out there but to share my opinion. I know many many gamer girls who will not play games if male protagonists are the only options. I know the more core gamer girls don't care, because after all it's all about the game but every one is different. This is why games that offer diversity are successful, like mass effect.

Anyways. I do think the developers should explore the option of female models/animations for a large DLC pack so that I can get my girlfriend(s) to play my favorite game with me =b (brink is my favorite... it will be, i promise)

They have explored it. The original Brink was going to have females but they were cut.

Desalinization isn't difficult. You just need the supply, sunlight, a transparent solid, and a collection device. Supply and sunlight are no problem for an island off California. I'm sure there's glass all over the place; It could be an opaque solid, really, but transparent is just more efficient. Angle the glass, and put any water-tight container under the lowest point.

Anyone on the Ark could do this if they scavenged for about 30 minutes.

What would the females with Brink's special graphical look be like? They'd probably be too similar to the male models, maybe little bit slimmer.

Keep in mind that humans are very intuitive, necessity is the mother of invention, and someone thought it up before they put it on the internet.

It has been stated here:
http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/index.php/2010/05/sgc-interview-brink.html/2
that quote, "Ultimately, we didn’t want to compromise our initial vision of having incredibly varied character customization without hurting the artistic quality, so we decided to only focus on male customization and make that the best we possibly can." As a result, I can say that I am extremely dissappointed and will probably not be getting this game immediately unless it is highly recommended by someone I deem trustworthy or hold in high regards. Sorry Bethesda, I just can't take the exclusion. I will give it a try, but that's all I can say for sure as of right now.

I've come to the conclusion that Splash Damage just hates boobs. If they can cram 45 different types of dreadlocks into the game, I don't see why additional body-types are an issue.

Ha! You noticed that too. Same same. And what's the need for EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON. to look completely different? Reach perfected this no problem. Now I know it's a stretch to measure up to Bungie, but you can at least try.

i didnt read this whole thread, but the banter on the first page gave me a thought.

imagine yourself as a new forum user with less than 100 posts and/or less than 10 started threads and/or less than a week old (numbers could be negotiated) going to start a new thread. you put in a subject, type the whole thing out, and hit submit. but wait! it doesnt tell you your post was successful, instead it shows you a list of search results. "WTF?" goes through your head. you browse through it real quick, and realize that this page must have used your subject box to preform a search on the forum. at the top it reads "there are too many threads addressing the subject you have chosen, please direct yourself to one of them for discussion"

i have seen some forums out there that dont allow you to start your own threads unless you have made a minimum number of posts. this is just another step in that direction. of course these sort of things tend to increase spam in an attempt to get past it, but i feel if you set the right parameters, or enough of them, it can work nicely.

You females do realize that making an ENTIRELY new body type with new geometry, movement and animations would mean having to make HUGE cuts on the apparel available, right? Customization options like "45 different types of dreadlocks" don't use up anywhere NEAR as much memory as a female character model.

And I'm gonna be honest, and if you take offense then get over it, but female gamers are a minority. Especially in shooters. I think from a business perspective, SD are totally justified in appealing to their target demographic rather than making huge cuts to appeal to your minority.

Lol, "It's a trap!"

Nah, I joke.. But in all honesty, I think Halo: Reach did a good job with character customization. Atleast the gender option wasn't just a change in pitch of a player's character's grunts and death screams like Halo 3 lol..

If its any consolation StoicVenus, the dev team has mentioned that not having female characters is the thing they most regret. Anyway its a great deal more than slapping a pair of [censored] and some wider hips. Its a good better done right or not at all.

Not necessarily. There's a pretty interesting thread http://gamecareerguide.com/features/854/the_aesthetics_of_unique_video_.php?page=1 where an artist describes her thesis on the representation of female characters in video games. She designs a set of female classes for Team Fortress 2, and http://chemicalalia.deviantart.com/art/TF2-female-designs-v-2-125637664 are some of her initial concept art sketches for the characters.

Also, as was pointed out elsewhere, there's always http://alienscolonialmarines.net/forums/members/vasquez-albums-let-s-rock-picture68-a.jpg as a fantastic prototype for scary "tank" women.

And there aren't even 45 headpieces in the game...

Well, I think this is how females in BRINK would basicly look.

However, that is not what (female) games want for http://gamgea.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/sheva_v21.jpg.

True, but the reason the characters are overly stylized (in terms of size) is to easily differentiate between the three body types at first glance. The Female Heavy concept she drew falls in a gray area between medium and heavy, a Brink Heavy being much larger. I'm not saying that female characters couldn't work but.. after a certain point the models are just going to look like dudes with boobs. :cryvaultboy:

Then there is the other end, were the light bodytype will look overly anorexic and then SD will be blammed for making unrealistic models deteriating women's self-image.

The same would go for the cup sizes...how "yeah right unreal why do all video game girls got biig b00ns" threads when they do model females later. That they would have to tread lightly on
