Feminine Stance to Feminine

Post » Mon Mar 17, 2014 11:09 pm

I was wondering if anyone else thought that the female characters were too feminine. You make a character that is a warrior all clad in heavy armor but she still stands like she is posing for a swim suit picture, it would be nice if they gave us options for stances, like demure, aggressive and such. You make a male character and hes all butch, chest out standing tall and walking proud but you make a female and she feels submissive and dante to me. It was hard enough trying to make a female character but then no matter how she is geared she still looks like she is posing for a photo shoot and i won't even go into the animations of when the female characters run......

I thought I was the only one!

They run as if they just got their nails done and they're still drying.

I'd like to create really fat characters or women with a nasty beard wearing a heavy burka to counterweight all those super model fighters in heavy armor with boob windows.

If you do make a female character wouldn't you want her to look strong as the class sheis instead of having the skills and the gear but walk around like she is afraid to break a nail and look so submissive (on second thought you might like the submissive look as a guy lol) it ust to kill me when i played eq and i would sit with my female character and she always looked at the ground so submissive but the male characters looked ahead and proud.

I have to disagree. It wasn't something I really noticed, so I went back over a couple of screenshots from the weekend beta and found this; http://s3.postimg.org/6r12uhe6r/Standing.jpg

That's my character just standing there at a crafting station. I'm no model, but I don't think that strikes me as a particularly swim suit-esque or feminine pose, and I'm somewhat a tomboy myself.

Ok ill give it to you the briton does look butch but even at a crafting table my HE never looked like that, she was ugly and tall but never looked butch like that. I kind of like it myself  Were you crafting at the time or just standing near it, if you were crafting that might be why (guessing you can turn the ui off while crafting to get a screen shot? )

You won't see me complaining about pretty girls!

But I saw plenty of ugly ones, with scars and masculine hairstyles, etc..

If you want ugly, just make an elf...blech! Rats they are!

Oh, you can turn off the interface while crafting, but I wasn't crafting when I took this; I was just standing there. She's an Imperial, but the Bretons are similar. If you're looking for a real masculine woman, you should probably look into the Nords. You'll find that all Elves, regardless of gender, are feminine by their very nature.

As far as I can tell, they only exist in the Bosmer style.

I am full blown male. However, I will create female characters just as much as males. Thankfully the players character in Skyrim walked like a real woman and not like she was carrying two potato sacks. The very first thing I did when the CK was released was open every female NPC tab and uncheck the [ opposite gender animation ] box for every guard, housecarl and any other female NPC.

Can women be too feminine?

I can't even imagine trying to answer that with anything other than... no, nor would I want to, TBH.

Good i had planned on making an imperial, as long as she doesn't look like she is running around with wet fingernails i think i will be ok.

Yeah ... I'm just not seeing it. I'm in general sympathetic to the whole 'women in video games are ridiculously oversixualized' thing, but I didn't notice anything particularly feminine about the women's stances or animations.

That said, if they wanted to offer a set of options for idle stance to choose from (like Star Trek Online does), that'd be cool. But I think of literally every other MMO that features human-shaped women, this is the one that needs it least.

Well, that could be part of your problem. High Elves are known to be haughty and condescending towards other races, heck, even towards each other depending on rank. They will have a different stance and look than other females in the game due to their disposition.

Then there are games like Fable 2 where if you put too many points in strength you become too masculine looking. Many female characters in other games people complain about them being too masculine in one way or another. Personally I didn't notice anything about the female animation in ESO so it seems OK to me,

Edit: You know what, I don't know what I'm remembering because I just looked through some screen shots and I don't see a difference in stance at all. Do you have any pictures to illustrate your point?

The animation looked fine to me, and I'm quite sensitive to these things. I was also able to choose a recognizably female but deep voice.

Mostly bosmer with the boob windows, yeah, though the argonian style is also pretty sixy. Most of these peek-a-boo designs have an equally revealing male counterpart though.

Comparing ESO to other MMORPG's I played

the female Characters in ESO look to me quite alright.

And yes, I am by gender female.

I find it actually funny that the majority of female Chars are

being created and played by male players,

and these seem to favour the super-model look.

Hence my conclusion...if I see a Game Character Supermodel

I immediatly suspect a male mind behing the controls.

But than...that is me.

I disagree, too. I didn't play a female character, but my wife did (high elf), and she specifically commented that her character stood and carried herself a little too masculine. Standing there with her legs and arms apart like she's ready to throw a punch.

What is "the tag"?
I have no control over what other people play or play as. I just stated my opinion. I'm not selling wares of preference to anyone.

I have no idea what that is. If you are referring to the art style, then I do not play anything that reflects it. It's not a favored style by me.

If you want an ugly, masculine, female, no one is stopping you. But if someone wants to have a super model, why stop them?

I'm all for choice, and options, myself.

I can always tell when men are playing female chars because they wear way too much make-up.

Rofl

Maybe not the place to bring it up, but I hate this perspective. It erases my existence. Hell, I once had a guildmate that knew damn well I was a woman tell the group, in all seriousness, that women on the internet didn't exist. Like, what the heck do we have to do for people to acknowledge us? That's a bit off topic and you probably didn't even mean it seriously, but I needed to say that. :)

Back on topic, I felt the game was well balanced in terms of masculinity and femininity - I even /feedbacked as much. I would have preferred the ability to make my bosmer stockier and better muscled, but oh well.

I dunno, I made a Orc female she seem strong enough to me. Though I don't really like the Orcs because they are too human looking.

I went and asked the wife and she didn't feel they were too soft either. As she would say "my girl is a bad ass". But my wife tends to prefer the Super model types, which is why she likes the High elves(doesn't like Orcs at all), so maybe her opinion don't count.
