A few story related questions *spoiler alert*

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:09 am

Hello,
I've beat the game for the minutemen and it was pretty much mind-[censored]ing, so i have some questions.
First of all, if the Institute life was so great, why did Virgil (or whatever his name is) escaped and why they wanted to kill him? He never explained his reasons to do so and he don't want it to be destroyed. Doesn't make sense to me...
Second, if Kellog (again, sorry if i've [censored]ed up his name :) ) kidnapped Shaun when he was 1 and now he is 60, Kellog should be AT LEAST 80... well he doesn't look like my grandpa and fights like a 20 year old guy... Something's not right here, is it?
And my last question is - why did even the Institute attack the Minutemen? It doesn't make any sense, they don't have any reason to send half of their synths to destroy the almost empty castle...
To be honest, the game is far better than the older ones but the story is really bad and disappointing. I'm making a new character just to roam, not even starting the Valentine quest again...

Shaun mentions that they did some things to Kellog, explains is prolonged life. Id venture to say that at that point the Minute Men have become a big enough threat to the Institute with you allied to them. Also they could be viewed as being more vulnerable and easier to take out than the well armed and organized BOS

To answer your question:

1. Kellog is basically a Synth. I don't know why they didn't just make him a Synth but they probably didn't want to explain why 80 year old Synths are almost as effective as the modern new ones. He's almost completely machine underneath his flesh with a new suit of flesh over the front.

Hence why he doesn't age.

He's more machine now than man.

2. Your wife was killed 60 years ago and you briefly woke up to see it. Then you went back to sleep until the machinery finally defrosted you.

3. The Institute wants the Minutemen gone because an army of Pre-War Revolutionary-themed heroes inspiring the Commonwealth is kind of the OPPOSITE to eradicating all memory of the Pre-Great War Era.

Still the question of Kellogg raising Shaun in Diamond city. Valentine never acts like it's been a long time and the dog tracks him from the house. So at tops he left it 12 days earlier.

That's a red herring. That child isn't Shaun.

They were ten, after all.

Who was the child in his memories that was living with him?

During my game, there was never any time when the Institute mention anything about the Minutemen. The only 2 factions they wanted destroyed were BoS and Railroad but nothing about the Minutemen.

That said, I never joined MM and didn't do any of their quests so maybe that's the reason.

A science experiment which gets explained later.

Basically Father's clone of himself.

I'm trying to figure if this makes Father an enormous hypocrite or not.

I've no idea. Perhaps he did this out of some sympathy for his parent who never got to raise him. A sort of, “Hey, here's me as a child. I'm giving you the chance you never had to care for me.” I do suspect Sole Survivor will be wanting to teach Synth!Shaun some survival skills for the time when Sole Survivor is unable to provide for him anymore.

EDIT: Anyone else bothered with the fridge horror of all this? Synth!Shaun will spend forever stuck in the body of a ten-year-old boy watching his mom/dad grow older, older, and much older before dying. What'll happen to him afterward? What if Nick Valentine isn't around to take over? It's not like he has the strengths and skills to take on, say, a Deathclaw or a Super Mutant...
