Counting time played last night and this morning I had about 10 hours of game time in with only 1 CTD when Steam finished d/l'ing a patch in the background. Just had my second one a few minutes ago after again Steam crashed me after d/l'ing the new NV patch. Patch gets applied, start back up, now game crashes every couple of minutes. Exact thing I was worried about, they rush out a patch and now my game is borked, WTG guys.....

You know, I think I'm one of the fortunate people that this patch didn't screw over yet. Although I think it's karma for FO3 Patches causing me to crash.

I'm pretty sure that they didn't spend even a half hour playtesting the game, judging by the shear amount of bugs that're being reported. I've yet to decide on who to blame: Bethesda or Obsidian.

Yeah, now I crash when I buy stuff from this traveling merchant outside the NPR base in the South West corner of the map. That is a random [censored] bug, not to mention the majority of the time my Fallout game launcher crashes...

Come on, you know that's not what happened. Do you really think they spent nearly two years developing the game and then just decided not to test it? They had a deadline they wanted to hit and they weren't done fixing the bugs. Bethesda decided it was more important to hit the release date than to release with the bugs fixed. Why do you think the first PC patch came the day after release?

Hey, me too. Mojave Outpost, right? About 25% of the time I hit "Accept" it'll work, the rest of the time it'll crash.

No, that's not what happened. What happened is
1) This is a Gamebryo game. The engine tends towards bugs.
2) Whole lot of different PC configurations out there. Can't test for all of them.

If Nintendo can delay the 3DS such that it completely misses the holiday season, I think Bethesda could have pushed the release date back. I mean, come on, the DS sells like hot-cakes, imagine what it would have sold like during the winter holidays!

I have not bought FO:NV. I was very enthusiastic for the game from what I'd read about it on G4 and Game Informer magazine - it seemed like it would have a lot of potential as an RPG, and maybe even get me interested into the FO universe. I'm shocked to read that it is plagued with so many bugs, and I'm surprised that Bethesda would permit the game to be released in such a state. We know Rogue Warrior is garbage, but I don't think anyone is overly upset at the soiling of that IP. But, this is Fallout. The first two games are classics, the third game was a smashing success for Bethesda, it's their new flagship IP along with the Elderscrolls. You'd think they'd make sure no one screwed up/tainted the name of their golden goose.

Did you even PLAY Fallout 3? Of course it's Bethesda's fault. Obsidian may make buggy games, but nothing like this. I played through the notoriously buggy KoTOR 2 just fine, but this has been a nightmare.

They were both incredibly buggy. New Vegas is exactly how they were at the beginning.

The engine has nothing to do with anything here. Every engine has its problems, even Unreal and Crytek. What it comes down to however is how well the game developers did their coding and development, which appears to be fairly poor.

Softnerd, that's about the most idiotic reply I've read all day.

Orly? Why is that? Because it's probably right? You're going to have to elaborate, and while you're at it you might as well hit us with your own mad insight. Come on, take us to school. Clearly you must have a lot of games development experience.

You know what, you're right. Here's what happened: Obsidian and Bethesda spent hundreds of hours of their lives over two years laboring to make a game. When it came time to QA they were like, "ah, screw it, let's get drunk." They proceeded to spray each other with champagne while having a good guffaw at all the "chumps" who are going to buy the game they don't give a crap about. Then when they saw how many people were complaining about bugs they were like, "oh crap, we maybe should fix those or teh gamerzes won't buy our next gaem, y'all!" Then they collected information on over 200 bugs, made a patch to fix them, tested the patch (oh, wait, they prolly didn't test it :P), packaged it up, and distributed it ALL IN ONE DAY.

You're absolutely right. That makes a lot more sense. I don't know what I was thinking.

Also, you couldn't have come up with a more mature way to reply? Seriously?

No, that's not what happened. What happened is
1) This is a Gamebryo game. The engine tends towards bugs.
2) Whole lot of different PC configurations out there. Can't test for all of them.

1. Sure, Gamebryo tends toward being unstable, yet they managed to patch out most (not all) of the issues in previous Gamebryo games.
2. Yes, and that's a problem for all game releases. We're talking about NV being especially buggy, not typical bugs that most games have at release.

If Nintendo can delay the 3DS such that it completely misses the holiday season, I think Bethesda could have pushed the release date back. I mean, come on, the DS sells like hot-cakes, imagine what it would have sold like during the winter holidays!

Yes, they could have delayed the release and fixed the bugs, but they didn't. Why do you think that is?

you all realize this game wasnt created by Bethesda... right? It was the company they hired to that failed epicly. Guess who's never gana be making another beth game ever again?

Have you played a Bethesda game before?

Anyway, I'm not hitting any major bugs yet. I had the NPC slowdown issue and fixed it temporarily with the replacement DLL fix. Bethesda is claiming it's a driver issue and not an issue with the game. Supposedly they're working with hardware manufacturers on it.

Only had two crashes in the first two days. But the game saves failed. Now the game saves work but the game CTD's every 2-5 minutes. They have exhumed the dead body that was Fallout 3 CTD's.

It's my understanding that Bethesda oversaw project management, production, and QA, so they did more than just publishing.

What it comes down to however is how well the game developers did their coding and development, which appears to be fairly poor.

Bugs are fixed during the QA process. Only bugs that are really obvious to the developers during development are fixed before that. If they ran out of time to QA then they ran out of time to QA. That doesn't mean the developers did a bad job. Software development is a process that involves multiple stages, and problems that affect the final product can arise at any one of them.

Maybe because Bethesda had a part in the development of the game?

This was my understanding as well. It was more in a management capacity than a creative one, though. Correct me if I'm wrong.

LMFAO... nvm i see the people were dealing with here... i swear this was a double post i had to check the names...

BTW answer to both is yes... and they were freaking great, i had no issues with either at any point that wasnt mod related (Save the late game memory leak). Bethesda puts out good games, it sounds like you guys are probably using sub par with exceedingly poor maintenance, which i had with oblivion so i cleaned up my PC and it was great. This is actually the first one they i've played that had an issue right out the box... I had the DX9 bug, and i notice that flash of light every so often, but other then that the game is fine. Theres some things i would like to see tweaked but thats me.

Then again, people go on forums to troll about their problems, prime examples. If beth games were so [censored], why'd you spend your money? Or did you? either way... People attitudes are pretty disgusting on the topic. Beth puts out great games, GOTY and massive success shows for it, but if you wana put blame where it doesnt belong thats your business.

"Beth, though you had no hand in fallout NV's development, all its bugs are your fault!" lol

While I agree that the posters you quoted didn't go about their statements the right way, isn't this an issue of the pot calling the kettle black? You didn't have issues with Oblivion or Fallout 3. Fine. I didn't have issues with Fallout 3 either outside of a CTD issue that was patched later. Were you there when the games were released? The tech forums were just as full of people complaining about bugs as there are now for New Vegas. Bethesda eventually released patches to fix these problems, so I can assure you they weren't issues with people using "sub par with exceedingly poor maintenance." They were actual bugs. New Vegas has been out for two days. The bugs will be patched, just like they were for Morrowind (tons of people couldn't play that game for a month after release), Oblivion, and Fallout 3.

Then again, people go on forums to troll about their problems, prime examples. If beth games were so [censored], why'd you spend your money? Or did you? either way... GOTY means nothing when it comes to bugs, so I'm not sure why you're mentioning that. Really, though, I'm not having any issues with New Vegas, so I could say the same about you talking up Bethesda like they're God's gift to the gaming industry. Just sayin'.

"Beth, though you had no hand in fallout NV's development, all its bugs are your fault!" lol

Actually, they did. They had a lot to do with it, just not on the creative side.

Seems like this is the trend in PC gaming now. Bought CIV 5, game worked pretty well. They released a patch with a SINGLE fix and broke the game for thousands. Completely unplayable . . things as simple as loading save games stopped working. Fully a month after the release and the game isn't playable. They finally released a patch list and its over 100 items long (most serious game breaking bugs).

That Said im not f'ing around with this game. I crash to desktop after the new game movie on my office and home PC (Win 7 32 Bit Business, Nvidia card in both) The game is going back to gamestop tomorrow and I will get a refund if I have to take my lawyer with me.
