FIFA 11

Played a couple of team play games. Not sure I'll play too many more. The first one I was Ronaldo in Real Madrid vs Barca. Got a good team of players and I scored twice and set up one and we won 5-1. Then followed half an hour of trying to find a game that had more than 3 people in it, before finally getting Arshavin in Arsenal vs Spurs. Got a team of guys who lunged into every tackle, always followed the ball, didn't understand the concept of the offside trap, were completely unable to pass, and took shots from 40 yards.

On the plus side, I now have the power header trait for my player, and am back playing as a striker. Unfortunately I lasted about 20 minutes in the first game and am now injured for a month :(

Anyone got any tips for winning on legendary?

I'm playing as Blackpool in the Premier league, traditional manager mode, I've never played Be A Pro. It seems like the AI doesn't help you enough, often my team are just completely static and thus, completely useless. This is true for both attack and defence, I often charge up the field to get no movement from my Strikers or wingers and no surges from midfield. It's frustrating, especially given the supreme defensive co-ordination of the opposition, they absoultely swarm you in a way that you would need 3 controllers and 6 arms to accomplish. Also, some players a literally un tackelable and I mean literally. Tevez is one, you just can't tackle the bastard without dropping him.

I'm still having fun but it's a little frustrating in parts.

On legendary? Be incredibly awesome at the game? Also, have the skill moves down to muscle memory, to get you that little extra space, and bring in a second defender to help out if you're against someone like Tevez.

The AI isn't the best though. Too often I find myself screaming at them to make a run or go back post, when they just trot alongside me. I usually just opt to control the whole team, even when I'm trying to develop my pro.

Unfortunately I didn't get the game this weekend because the Royal Mail svcks ass. Long gone are the day when I used to get games ordered from amazon.co.uk on release day without fail. Hopefully I'll get my copy tomorrow, although it's a bit crap to get it when I'm back to work again for the week. I'm looking forward to building a team, I always enjoy that aspect of manager mode.

You can set up your team to be less rigid in the team management section (in Fifa 10 anyway, I imagine it's similar in 11) and when you are setting up your formation you can set players to make runs into certain positions. Also hit L1 (PS3) or LB (360) to make players make runs. It can be quite frustrating when your team doesn't run into space.

Me too. Unfortunately they seem to have removed scouting from manager mode, as well as the whole club facilities thing, and after about half a season every one of my players has 0 growth. And nobody aged between 17 and 22 with a rating above 70 wants to play in the SPL.

Always my favorite par of sports games.During the off-season in any sport game I can spend a good 2 hours managing.

Realism. :P

It wouldn't be so bad if the player growth wasn't so damn static. 25 games into the season and nobody has had any growth...

I played Fifa 10 a lot to the point where I could beat Legendary and most people online. Hit a bump at skill level 20-22 though. I downloaded the Fifa 11 demo but I was disappointed with the lack of progress made, although I am pleased ping-ponging is trickier now. I heard PES 11 is better than Fifa 11, can anyone confirm/deny this? Also anyone on PS3?

Categorically deny. I downloaded both demos, and PES was terrible. I recommend you download it, just so you can appreciate FIFA more.

The best argument I heard for PES was "you can make your own stadium!" Personally I don't give a damn if I'm playing in an ultra-realistic Ibrox if the game itself plays like [censored].

My only real complaint about FIFA so far is the announcers, they are so lifeless compared to the World Cup ones.

Eurgh, going from playing as Chelsea to Rangers is horrible. I know we're hardly great just now, but do their researchers honestly believe our players are incapable of stringing two passes together? They seem to have just given the players generic attributes based on their position, which rather negates the whole player personality thing. I mean, they've given Weiss crap balance, and Steven Naismith can now apparently not jump or header a ball despite that being one of his main strengths. Steven Whittaker's 12 goals from RB last season have earned him a finishing skill of 47. Still, they were right about James Beattie being crap.

Alright, little update. Player growth is, in fact, bugged. Much like the -£2bn bug last year which just got ignored, EA seem to be burying their heads in the sand over this too. Basically, if you want to do anything involving player development, you're gonna be disappointed.

They're seriously lucky PES plays like [censored].

Depends on which platform. I tried both demos on PC and the Fifa demo was horrible. PES FTW! And it will also depend who you ask. Go on www.pesfan.com and see if you get the same answer to that question. ;)

Yeah, in general FIFA for the PC is utter gash. It's nothing like the console game, and should be avoided at all costs.

Well due too my inability to get to work and class today I was able to play a lot of FIFA. I started off with 4 draws then I won 1 and lost two.During this stretch I couldn't score to save my life. I tried a bunch of different formations and strategies and found a good one.I ended up winning 6-1 the next game.

It gets better. After finishing the first season of Career mode my Be A Pro player has disappeared from the team, and doesn't show up in any transfer searches.

You do wonder if they ever bother to test the games?

Bleeeeeeehh.

I'm still not getting much better at this on the harder difficulty modes, scoring is nigh in impossible. Shame I can't really find a difficulty that suits me, I'm either banging in 10 a game or unable to score any at all. I don't think I've scored a goal worked through the middle yet on this Fifa, only way I can create is by passing it wide, lobbing it into the box and hoping for the best.

I use a custom 4-2-4 formation with a midfielder attacking and pass it around a lot once I get close to the goal.

This reminds me a lot of Madden. The Cowboys had Junior Siavii on their roster and every time they announced his name they would call him John Carlson... I was pissed in Madden 10. Then I got Madden 11 and they still called him John Carlson. This is why I'm probably not going to buy Madden anymore. They do the bare minimum and that is all. Cris Collinsworth still says the same damn things. The only thing that is different is a few animations...

Oh, they didn't fix the Junior Siavii problem, but the Cowboys did. :P (They released him)

NHL is what did it for me.They seemed like the just never watched hockey or took a physics class in their life. The same cheap goals are stil in it from the past 3 years and they add very little to gameplay.

Also EA killed Be a Pro in Madden.

Has anyone tried the creation mode yet?I am doing it now.
