Fight for Falpen

Post » Wed May 12, 2010 6:40 pm

History:

Falpen used to be a grand city on the border to Hammerfel, and it was ruled by two Lords: Lord Ajvus and Lord Marduck. When the two leaders' forces discover massive silver ore fields, Mephala corrupts and convinces Marduck to keep over half of the ore production from his brother's eyes, and using the money and ore for his own devises. Mephala also convinced Ajvus to lay spies in his untrustworthy brother's operations, and when Ajvus found out about the treachery he confronted his brother in a fury, sword drawn.

When Marduck realized his dear brother had doubted him and planted spies, he was furious as well and drew his sword. They lunged at eachother, slaying both Lords.

The nearby cities of Garvi and Vendus, currently led by Baron Tarvits and the Baron Paliij, debated over who's son would succeed Ajvus and Marduck's rule. As the fight elevated, the Barons soon considered each other hostile forces, and battle to this day over the ore fields and over Falpen itself.

Falpen:

Small bands of organized criminals or ex-soldiers have formed, trying to fight back for their freedom and their land.

Garvi *Baron Tarvit's Barony*:

3000 Crossbowmen: *one sturdy oak crossbow, twenty iron-tipped bolts, one combat knife per man*
4000 Heavy Swordsmen: *heavily armored, wielding claymores*
3000 Heavy Cavalry: *heavy armored, wielding heavy lances and spears*

Vendus *Baron Paliij's Barony*:

4000 Skirmishers: *iron shortswords and longswords, some wield crossbows, these men make every kill count*
2000 Crossbowmen: *see above*
2000 Heavy Swordsmen: *see above*
4000 Pikemen: *equipped with a buckler strapped to arm, a 10-foot long pike, and an iron shortsword*

Redguard Marauders: Warbands pillage Falpen daily, looking for loot and land for their nation of Hammerfel.

You, the Rpers, are citizens of Falpen caught up in all the madness, and are underground in a basemant of the Tavern called "Dragon-Breath Mead". You can be anyone, an ex-soldier, a scholar, an alchemist, a Morag Tong assassin swept away in this war, forced to live underground with the commoners. You are trying to make it out of the city alive, but even then what to do is unclear. It is for you to choose as you forge your own destiny in this war.

Rules:
1. All basic RP rules apply.
2. If you're confused with anything, ask me.
3. No ubering, no character control
4. My word is law
5. No in-depth Rp posts until the RP thread is started.

Edit: P.S. For the Barons I want experienced RPers

Okay i think ill join this because finally we all start out in one building i hate having to rp to places. And since this is about the people it looks like a job for a weak and nimble Khajiit character.

Name: Razwel (Razwel that ends well)
Age: Uknown (He was born into slavery and slave masters don't keep track of the slaves age so its to be guessed around somewhere around 34 to 36 years of age)
Race: Khajiit (Ohmes-raht)
Birthsign: The Theif (Doesn't have the effects that it does in oblivion he only has +10 luck)

Class: Poltician/Scout
Special abitrutes: Luck, and will power
Skills: Speechcraft, hand to hand, and cross bow
Misc. skills: Scouting
Apperance: Golden brown fur, big ears, headband style hair. Long muzzle and pointy ears.
Clothing: Green brocade doublet, white linens (If you don't know what green brocade doublet is then look at the NPC http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Gellius_Terentius.)
Weapons: Silver longsword
Personaility: He socialble and likes to talk to people. He also knows how to be a leader since he used to be a politican. His cons of his personality is he has an average IQ and he can sometimes talk to much that he eventually starts to annoy others who are shy and don't like to talk. He is also very racis towards Dunmer or the dark elves.

Biography/History:

He was born into slavery, but as soon as he was able to walk he escaped his former homeland of morrowind. He lived his life as a loner who went from town to town surviving off of coins people handed him. He traveled quite a distance across tameriel working as a beggar until he was an advlt where he began work in cyrodil as the countess of chorrol's man servant. For years he served the countess her meals and helped her with he baths, but in the end the countess ended up enjoying the Khajiits company and his devotion to work and promoted him to her right hand man begginning his career in politics. For several years he conducted the taxes and budgets of chorrol with the help of the towns council, and proved to be quite a natural at his work. After awhile he had become quite known throughout cyrodil for being able to stimulate the chorrols economy better than anyone who had ever done so before. Before long he had gotten job offers from all over Tarmerial, and eventually he decided he would join the Falpen city council as they were willing to pay him the most money. Before long he was swimming in money and had gone from a homeless beggar to a rich poltician living in a huge mansion. Even before everything went to hell in the city he would occasionly leave hammerfell to go around cyrodil giving advice as to counts and countesses as to what laws to allow or to give out finacial advice.

Other than Razwel's luck in politics he has no idea what his real name is or even remeber much about his parents. He's not even sure who his real parents are or his real name. Also Razwel was the name given to him by his friends off the pun Alls well that ends well (due to his amazing amount of luck throughout his life). Due to his many years in slavery he has grown racis towards most dunmmer and looks down on them as scum due to their acceptance of using Khajiits and Argonians as slaves.

Ooh. Two armies battling it out, and the PCs stuck in the middle? That's an interesting premise. I like! I like the idea of the players problem-solving this one. Think I'll draw up a sheet.

Questions:

Do you have a standard character sheet template you want us to use, or should we just use whatever we want?

Which province is this in? You say it's on the border to Hammerfell... do you mean on Cyrodiil's border? Or Skyrim's, or High Rock? Or is it actually in Hammerfell? I'm guessing it's on Cyrodiil's border, near Hammerfell, but I want ot make sure.

What time period is this, just for political reference? Vaguely after the Oblivion crisis, as most RPs are?

And what, exactly, do you mean by "silver ore field"? Are we talking about mines, here? Or is there literally a field of silver-laced rocks? I don't know much about ore and mining, so I'd like a little clarification on that.

I don't think it really matters if its near hammerfell im sure the same hammerfell laws and rules apply. And this is about hammerfell so i would suspect it would be in hammerfell.

:[ That's okay, Chris. I understand :P. But to Bsparrow, it is in Cyrodiil on the border to Hammerfel.. And I guess it is placed about 50 years before the Oblivion Crisis.. I'll try and make a map later.

To tell you the truth, I don't know much about mining either, I figured it would just be a huge ore deposit in the ground and the humans make the mines to harvest the deposits.. If you play through the Oblivion expansion Mehrune's Dagger thing then you'll probably learn a little bit more about it, seeing as there are a bunch of mines in there.

Glad to have you aboard, Renault. Sheet approved :D. Yurr good too, Dark Fox.

We need two people to RP the Barons. Well I suppose I could, but I don't really want an active roll besides the enemies, I'd rather have the players forge the history.

Oh and Bsparrow, you can use any sheet I suppose.

Hmm. I was thinking of an alchemist character, but after Renault's character, she may not be needed.

I could try being a baron, though I've never directed an army in RP before. Ah, well, it'd be a challenge. :P

Holy, do you have any ideas what you want either baron to be like (even as much as races or any information about their lands)? I don't want to be too presumptuous.

The Baron Tarvitz is full Imperial, and stands at about 5'8. He is pudgy, but not fat. Journeyman in the art of illusion and destruction

The Baron Paliij is half Redguard half Imperial and stands at about 5'9. Very fit and athletic, but not as skilled in magic like Tarvitz is.

Cool. I guess I'll take Paliij. Any personality or history info? If not, I can get creative.

Get that creative engine working, I suppose.

Here are some things, though.

Paliij has always been a supporter of Redguards, but now that the Redguard warbands are trying to capture the city, he thinks they are a disgrace to Hammerfel.

When he was little, he was kicked in the chest by a horse, breaking three ribs, and sometimes he gets attacks where the ribs poke into his side or summfin and he gets excruciating pain. You can activate this disability any time you want, but it doesn't happen very often.

Indeed it is sad. WLB actually got about 80 posts into the second thread, which is more then I can say more most RP's these days. But I believe that when one door closes another opens, so I've entered those two other doors and now I'm in two other awesome RP's, so it's all for a good cause :P

By the way I thought I'd ask, say one of the other RP's do die (by your genius plans of course) and a Baron part hasn't been taken, would I be able to go for it? If I'm qualified that is.

Character sheet:

Name: Baron Paliij Sentirus of Vendus
Nickname: Wolf of Vendus
Race: Half Imperial, Half Redguard
Gender: Male
Age: 34
Birthsign: the Warrior

Class: Baron
Skills: Tactics, Blade, Block, Heavy Armor, Mercantile

Physical Description: Paliij's appearance heavily favors his mother. He has curly black hair, russet skin, and an athletic build. However, his striking green eyes and square jaw bely his father's race. His expression is usually grave and reserved--rarely does he let his emotions show.
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 164 lbs
Scars/tattoos: He has several assorted scars. The most visible is a cut on his forehead where a raider's axe once nearly split his skull.

Clothing/armor: Out of armor, he favors neatly-cut jackets in earth tones; the only high-priced item he wears is his signet ring. When he's in 'tactician' mode, he typically changes into a set of steel armor.
Weapons: Silver Claymore, with an extra steel shortsword and knife at his belt.
Inventory: At his advisors' request, he usually carries a healing potion on his person somewhere.

Mental Description: Paliij is occasionally called the "Wolf of Vendus" because he is fierce, tenacious, and protective. He is a strict disciplinarian, both of himself and others, and has no sense of humor to speak of. He prefers to fight alongside his men when he can, and his tactics are often shrewd and unforgiving.

To his citizens, Paliij can seem a harsh ruler. His policy is to tax high to fund his militia, leaving the general populace somewhat disgruntled with their simpler existence. Paliij shows little interest in civil matters, leaving such things up to his staff and wife.

Other miscellaneous info:
Due to an injury sustained in his childhood, he occasionally has "attacks" of crippling pain in his left side, usually triggered by high stress. He dislikes showing weakness in front of his men, though, and will usually retreat to his rooms when he feels one coming on.

History:
Paliij was born into a life of luxury. His father was the Baron of Vendus before him, and his mother was the warrior daughter of a rich merchant in Hammerfell. Their marriage was politically arranged, and the two spent much of Paliij's childhood battling over dominance of their child and their land (the Baron won the land, while the Baroness won the son). Paliij's Redguard mother made sure he was well-acquainted with military tactics and combat, and he took to that much more than his father's Imperial lessons of statesmanship and loyalty to the crown.

When Paliij was nine, he was kicked by a horse, breaking several ribs. He spent several months bedridden and crippled, but managed an almost-complete recover through hard work and discipline. Ever since, he has trusted heavily in the power of discipline and willpower. However, he was also left with a phobia of horses. He does not trust them, and will not have them in his militia.

When his father died, Paliij took over. Now, he is fiercely loyal to his citizens, and considers himself their protector more than their ruler. Thus, when the Redguard raiders began becoming bold, he took it as a personal offense. He primarily wants the silver mines so he can afford to launch a full offensive against the raiders.

He has 2 sons: one 12, and one 9, born of a loveless political marriage to the daughter of a Colovian duke. Both boys have strict training regiments, and spend most of their time being tutored or in the training yards with the militia, whether they want to or not. The boys are nevertheless adored by the men. His wife spends her time with the civil staff, trying to run a financially-strapped barony.

I like how you paid attention to his army layout heh.. He has no horses :P, therefor you gave him a phobia of them, and it fits perfectly. I hadn't even thought of that xD.

Also, this RP will be open even when the RP thread starts, so if anyone can't make it while it's in recruitment form, then you can always join after.
