Fighters Guild Rat Quest

Post » Thu Sep 23, 2010 8:24 pm

The Fighter's guild tells you that a local has been complaining about rats in her basemant. Seeming like a normal job, you go down to her basemant and clear it out, though, it was strange that there was such a large abundance of rats in such a clean basemant.

You return to the Fighter's Guild to collect your reward when the guildmaster sends word that he wishes to speak to you. You consider this strange yet do as you're asked and pay a visit to the champion of the Fighter's Guild. You enter the master's room and see that he is in a chair on the far side of the room, watching the sun set through the window. As you approach the chair, it looks like no one is sitting in it, but as you get a view of the other side, you see it. A rat!

You draw your blade and prepare to swing when the rat calmly says, "Halt." You freeze, in shock and look at the rat with astonishment.
"There there, (player's name), I would just like to pay you."
"Pay me?" You say. Struggling to find words.
"Yes. You did a splendid job of destroying my rivals. Now this city will be mine"
"What?"
"You heard me correctly. With the mousidia rat race destroyed, no one can stop me from taking over the city, and eventually the empire by using the third numidium! Guards! Arrest him!"
The guards whom you thought were imperials are actually rats. In a desperate attempt to escape, you burst through the window and fall into the waters belows. As you swim onto shore, you notice that you feel warmer than usual. You itch too. You remove your gauntlets to reveal a wet little paw. You, are a rat too.

DUN DUN!

That'll mix things up a bit.

Luring them out of town with some kind of magical wind instrument. Maybe a pipe.

In Morrowind, one of your first fighters guild quests was to kill rats infesting a woman's basemant in Balmora.
In Oblivion, they put a twist on it by forcing you to PROTECT the woman's rats in Anvil.
What do you think should be the next incarnation of the ever-present rat's quest or do you think they will forget about it all together?

Just to put it out there... In Morrowind the Rats were in her attic, chewing up her pillows. She had no basemant.
In Oblivion it wasn't really a rat quest it was a Mountain Lion quest..

Other. You help Hircine's Wererat take vengeance on her cheating Dunmer lover, whom she caught having an affair with pillows.

Rather than save or kill rats, the quest should involve breaking up an illegal rat fighting ring. You have the option of euthanizing the rats, trying to find a proper owner, and maybe even taking one for yourself.

YES! That's absolutely brilliant!

Saving rats. Oooh, they're so cute, with their pink little noses. ;)

Since they're becoming a running joke, I'd love to see Beth include a special rat quest in TESV, or maybe a special item related to them.

I think PETA should have a role in the next rat quest.

it should be protecting cougars from rats.

So, you save a middle-aged Dunmer's pillows from rats, and then she hits on you?

I think PETA should have a role in the next rat quest.

A group of Bosmer activists who throw paint on you when you try to clear a house overrun by animals.

There could be a whole organization protesting the fighter's guild for their inhumane approach to stopping animal infestations. And a quest to sic dogs on a whole picket line of them.

Eh, either killing or saving, rats as a low level quest are a fantasy trope dating far beyond the Elder Scrolls games. I'd like to see them move beyond it.

I'd like to see a quest where you witness the extermination of a rat, who hands you a piece of cheese at the last moment and squeaks, upon which you must deliver the cheese to the rat's only remaining heir, whom has been threatened by a secret cult of mountain lions, whom are trying to bring about a new age in Tamriel void of rats, so you must protect the rat after the magical cheese is stolen by said mountain lions....

Remember that Rats are disease vectors.
Hence, the temple of Kynareth hires the FG to trap some rats to determine their role in a new disease spreading through town. You get the contract, when ...

Just to make it fun, you all do remember that the rat ladies, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Drarayne_Thelas of Morrowind and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Arvena_Thelas of Oblivion are related, right?

Maybe in the next one you might meet the Thelas sisters' (assuming they're sisters) mother, who tells of how, generations ago, the women of her family were cursed to always have some kind of rat related problem, and the subsequent quest sends you to break said curse by, oh, i dunno, killing a sumo-rat or something

The next quest should be about turning into a rat and leading a rat invasion of a basemant, protected by cougars. Or about turning into a cougar who needs to kill a rat owner to free the rats.

...what?
