We're fighting...Jills?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 9:09 am

So I read in one of the many preview yesterday that Alduin's lesser dragons are called "Jills". Jills? Sounds like I'm killing the chick from Resident Evil or a librarian.

Is there a real reason behind this name? It doesn't sound very...powerful. Doesn't really seem to convey that these are dragons.

Jills. How interesting. Anyone know anything about this?

Then would you be happy if they were called "Happy Fluffy Kittehs"

Well, if they follow the whole Nordic theme, it'll actually be pronounced with a "Y" sound. so Jills will be "Yills" which sounds a little more, dragon-ey.

If it's just a name and nobody cares, lets call the female dragons Hondas.

Uh, theres a big difference between Jills and "Happy fluffy Kittehs". Bethesda isn't stupid enough to name something that, and Jill isn't a terrible name. Its not something out of the ballpark, so who cares?

It is quite lame. I'm just fortunate not to know anyone or anything called Gill personally. That way I can form a psychological bond between the word "Jill" and dragons before anything else.

And then I'll meet a Gill and instinctively run for cover.

I'm not sure if he means that Jill is an archaic term for a female dragon on Earth, or in Tamriel. I did a quick google search for the term, but didn't come up with anything.

Well I would rather not hear them referred to as "jills" all the time either... OP is right. It does sound off for a fire-breathing dragon.

So if Jills are an archaic term for a female dragon on Earth, or in Tamriel, We'll basically be killing Alduins nation wide Harem of bichy dragon hores (i know its wrong and sorry for the language)?

From what I understood (reading some stuff from the Imperial Library website) Jills are the name for the servants of Akatosh. Pretty much like the Angels to God.

Angel. An-Jill. Jill. Got it?

That's right; in TES the dragons are more or less angels. So you fight and butcher 'em angels. Dovahkiin heils Satan, pretty much.

edit: so it pretty much confirms that Alduin is Akatosh, hm?

The concept is intoxicatingly deep and cool - the name is pretty awful. I doubt the word'll actually come up much in the game, though.

Just wait 'till Max von Sydow pronounce them for you. Bet it's gonna sound pretty gnarly.

Theres a book in Daggerfall, I believe, about the dragon god of time and his servants.
Lesser dragons, called Jills.
I cant think of the name of the book atm though, or Id link it. Maybe someone else knows?
Thats where the name comes from. Its not something new, its really old established TES lore.

I don't think.. Jills and Dragons are the same.....

otherwise the Dragons wouldnt be as unknown as they already seem (Daggerfall didnt happen that long ago)

Jills I thought were describe as Orbs with incredible power who mended time and kept things stable after the Dragon break.
